All I Ask of You pt 8

Sara lounged on the sofa leaning on Grissom’s chest. They had decided to just stay in to watch TV and talk. The steady thump of Grissom’s heart lulled her into a light sleep while they watched old movies. Grissom lightly ran his fingers up and down her arm as she slept and breathed in the mix of floral and fruit that he had come to know as Sara’s scent. He had never known a time where he felt more at peace than he did at that moment.

*This is what I’ve wanted. This is what’s been missing in my life. God, just how close did I come to her giving up on me? I could have lost her and never known this. I could still lose her. What if we get back and she changes her mind? What about the fallout at the lab? Can she handle that?*

Sara shifted and snuggled closer to him in her sleep. That was enough to stop his train of thought. At that moment, nothing that could go wrong back in Vegas mattered. Right now there was only he and Sara. He leaned forward and slipped out from under her while he supported her head and lifted her off the sofa to carry her to the bedroom. She woke slightly as he laid her on the bed but relaxed again when he lay down beside her and took her in his arms. He relaxed and tried to sleep, but a sharp pain that seemed to go through his head prevented that. Before it could register in his brain exactly what the pain was, he heard his cell phone ring on the nightstand and he tried to answer it before it woke up Sara. The voice on the other end went through his already pounding head like a knife.

“Grissom! When the hell are you coming back?”

“Well hello to you too Catherine. What’s the problem?”

Catherine went on to complain about the amount of paperwork on his desk, the amount of new paperwork that came in during his absence, Ecklie’s latest gripes at the lab, and that he and Sara were both away while some big cases had come in. He rolled his eyes as he listened to her rattle on making Sara stifle a laugh as she watched him. She decided to get up and see about dinner, leaving him to his phone call. She wasn’t sure if Catherine knew they had a suite or not and she didn’t want to do anything that would hint at the two of them being together. They hadn’t discussed what to do about their relationship once they returned home and she didn’t know if Grissom would want anyone to know about them or not.

She heard Grissom bolt from the bedroom to the bathroom and knew something was wrong. Walking over to the bedroom door she heard Catherine still on the other end of the cell phone that was now lying on the bed, and she heard Grissom in the bathroom obviously ill. She picked up the phone to find out what happened.

“Catherine what happened?”

“Sara? I don’t know. Grissom and I were talking and all of a sudden he said bye and I heard footsteps. He never hung up. What’s going on?”

“I’m not sure, but he’s the bathroom puking his guts out from the sound of it.”

“He’s sick?”

“I don’t think so. He was fine earlier when we were watching TV.”

Catherine was stunned. “You and Grissom were watching TV? Together?”

Sara cringed. She hadn’t meant to tell Catherine anything, and now she had to do damage control. “Yeah we were. When the lab made the arrangements they found that a 2-bedroom suite was more cost effective than 2 rooms. So unless one or both of us stay locked in our rooms, we have to spend some time together.”

Catherine smiled. “Well that could be a good thing for you two.”

“Yeah it is. We were pretty good friends at one time. Maybe we’ll be able to get back to that. We worked better together in those days.”

“Well you take care of Grissom and let me know what’s going on.”

“Ok I’ll call you back when I figure it out.”

Sara closed the phone and found the bathroom door ajar. Looking in she found Grissom sitting on the floor with his head resting on the rim of the toilet. She got a washcloth for him and his eyes fluttered open. “Come on. Let’s get you to bed.” She helped him stand and steadied him while he rinsed his mouth. He let her guide him back to the bedroom and collapsed on the bed groaning at the bright sunlight in the room. Sara quickly pulled the blinds and curtains to darken the room and he seemed to be a little more comfortable. “Is there anything I can do?”

Grissom rolled onto his back and threw his arm over his eyes. “No. I’ll be fine. It’s just a migraine.”

“Did you bring your medication for those?”

“Yeah but it wont do any good. Once they get to the point where I’m nauseous, it’s too late for the meds. If I take it, I’d just throw it back up before it could help. Just give me some time. It should start letting up in a while.”

She left him alone in the dark and went back to the sitting room to read. It wasn’t long before he heard him back in the bathroom once more. This time it was more difficult to get him off the floor, and his strength was quickly fading. “Ok now I think you need a doctor. If this keeps up I won’t be able to get you off the floor, Griss.”
“You’re right. It hasn’t been this bad in a long time.”

Sara helped him find his shoes and got him into the car after getting directions from the concierge. Twenty minutes later Grissom was trying to think clearly enough to answer questions at the ER. An hour and a shot in his hip later, Grissom was trying to stay awake to get back to the hotel and go back to bed. He was barely coherent when Sara got him back to bed and settled in. Sara ignored his ramblings until he grabbed her left hand and wouldn’t let go. He kept stroking the back of her hand and muttering something she couldn’t make out.

“Griss I need my hand back. You have to let go.”

“Don’t wanna let you go Sara. So beautiful. Beautiful hands. Just one thing missing. Have to fix that. Need to find the perfect ring.”

She watched his eyes drift shut and took her hand out of his grasp. She called Catherine back and told her about Grissom’s migraine. Cath hadn’t seen Grissom get one that bad in a long time either. After making Sara promise to take good care of her friend, she hung up and went back to her paperwork. The figure in the doorway looked at her and waited for her to say something. Catherine looked up and smiled.

“No evidence, but my gut tells me it’s working. We’ll just have to see.”

A few hours later Sara peeked into the bedroom and saw Grissom stirring. “Feeling any better?” Grissom looked over at her and ran a hand through his hair as he nodded. She walked over by the bed and looked down at him. “Do you feel up to trying to eat something? I ordered room service.”

“Yeah that sounds good.” Grissom rolled over and started to sit up. A twinge shot through him and he winced. Seeing her concern he touched his hip as he stood up. “Feels like that’s going to leave a hell of a bruise. Relax, Sara. I’m fine. I’m just sorry you spent the whole day playing nurse while I was out of it.”

“It’s not your fault, and I didn’t mind. If you haven’t been able to tell, I love you. Taking care of you when you’re sick just goes with the territory. I just hope you don’t get migraines like this very often.”

“No it’s not often they’re this bad. But when they do I wind up the same way. Still spaced from the drugs and a bruise on my ass.”

They talked a while about their relationship and what they were going to do once they got back to Vegas. In three days they would walk back into the lab and their little adventure would clash with reality. As Sara curled up beside him in bed, Grissom relaxed when he thought about the lab. They knew what they both wanted and they had a plan to handle it. Everything would work out but one way or another, they would be together.
