"So, what's up?" Daniel asked, though his mind was stuck back in the
little room down the back of the infirmary.
"Well, you remember that little trip to the planet with the glowing light?" Jack prompted.
"You mean the one where we had to stay there for three weeks?" Daniel asked.
"Uh, yeah... Well, Carter found something... See, that empty cavern we spent such an interesting time in yesterday... wasn't empty," Jack explained slowly.
Daniel just stared at him blankly, waiting for the bad news that he just knew was coming...
"We're infected," Jack finally told him, rather bluntly. "With yet another alien virus. We're gonna have to spend some prolonged time on Px5-271"
Freezing solid, Daniel stared at the colonel. "I - I can't," he stuttered rather stupidly.
"You can't?" Jack stopped walking and turned to face him. "What do you mean you can't?"
"Jack, you go on ahead, I have to talk to Janet," Daniel told him, and before he could be pressed, he ran back to the infirmary, calling for the poor woman.
Maybe there was a way to take Sephiroth with them... Maybe Janet could pull some strings... Then again, maybe not. There wasn't exactly anywhere 'private' in that tiny, plain cavern. Either way, Daniel could not leave Sephiroth alone again. A moose was one thing, but he wasn't about the risk the whole base. The term 'prolonged time' did not bode well for Cheyenne Mountain's chance of survival.
