Poison
Revenge
Oswald was running. Since he had a limp, this was something he never did. He had been trying to call Ivy since the club closed an hour ago. No answer. Worry was rising in his chest. He didn't care about the stares of the whispers of passersby. He knew something was wrong. His heart dropped as he rounded the corner and saw police cars and an ambulance parked in front of her apartment. He ran to the barrier and searched the crown for her face. He saw detective James Gordon writing something down on a pad of paper. He was speaking to Ivy's landlady.
"Detective Gordon!" Oswald called.
James Gordon looked towards Oswald and excused himself. His eyes looked tired, like whatever event had occurred had woken him from sleep.
"What can I do for you Oswald?" he asked sternly.
"There is a young lady that lives here....her name is Pamela Isley.....is.....is she alright?"
The detective's eyes softened as if he knew the nature of Oswald's relationship with her. His eyes flickered towards the pavement. Oswald felt his heart crack. He felt something within him break.
"No....no James......James please....."
Detective Gordon placed his hand on Oswald's shoulder. Oswald crumbled to the ground, James moved with him putting his arm around his shoulder.
"It's not good Oswald....when they found her she was barely alive. Who ever attacked her had injected her with whatever toxins were in her lab and splashed it all over her. They are taking her to Gotham General Hospital. If you want....I can take you...."
Oswald looked up at the young detective. He was a good man. He wanted so badly to make a difference in this city. Whatever run in's that Oswald had with him were because of his affiliation with Fish. Gordon felt for him, he knew that this girl was probably the only goodness in his life. Oswald nodded his head, unable to speak. Gordon showed him to the car and they drove to the hospital. The entire way there Oswald felt the tears streaming down his cheeks. He knew who had done this but didn't dare tell Gordon. Oswald ran in the hospital as quickly as he could. James ran after him.
"Pamela Isley....where is she?!" Oswald yelled at the nurse.
James flashed his badge and the nurse looked through her computer.
"ICU, third floor, room 306."
Oswald stood outside her door while James talked with the doctor down the hall. He closed his eyes when he felt them both beside him.
"Oswald.....listen to me.....she has some kind of chemical burn...it....it turned her skin green and its being secreted from her pores. She is sedated right now...they aren't quite sure what is keeping her alive. They need to perform some tests...."
"I don't care what color her skin is or what is being secreted from her pores! Just let me see her!" Oswald yelled. His voice echoed through the empty hallway.
James opened the door and let Oswald inside shutting it behind him. He pulled back the curtain and gasped. Her hair was a more brilliant shade of red and her skin was the same toxic green color as her Venom compound. He could see dark green veins running beneath her skin. Her emerald lips were slick with moisture. Oswald sank into the chair next to her bed and sobbed. He had tried so hard to spare her from Fish's cruelty and failed. He felt range taking place of sadness. He felt whatever had broken inside him before, fracture further. Anger and malice welled within him. He leaned close to her ear and whispered to her.
"I love you Ivy.....I promise you I will do everything in my power to punish the people who did this to you."
He left the room to an empty hallway. He made his way out into the dawn, set on revenge.
