A Year Later...
Chapter 7
A year later…
A year seemed to have flown by as Avalon woke up in her house on the bay…the house right next to Jack and Ianto’s. She got out of bed, feeling cold, lonely and depressed. Avalon opened her dresser drawer and pulled out a pre-filled needle of the Doctor’s essence, this was the only thing she woke up for; this was the only thing that kept her going. She pulled the tourniquet tight, seeing the bruising that it was leaving, plunged the needle in her arm and let the drug take over. Putting everything away, she went about her day, arriving at the office on time. She plopped her bag down in the office, knowing that some one was going to come in. The door opened and Ianto came in, setting a cup of tea down for her.
“Here you go Dr. Bristol.” Ianto said in a deep welsh accent, turning her on slightly.
“Thank you Ianto, punctual as always.” She said smiling. Ianto nodded and walked away. She propped her feet up on the desk and sipped her tea when the door opened again, this time was Jack.
“Hey Avalon…are you ok?” Jack asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine Jack; did you need to tell me something?”
“Ianto woke up this morning again, same dream…”
“Well if Ianto wants to talk to me about it then I will deal with it then, I can’t up his prescription on a whim…” She said, looking into his concerned eyes. “If you want to send him in here then I can talk to him.”
“Ok, you haven’t seen him have you…I can tell…your eyes are deadening and turning cold…”
“No I haven’t Jack, but what’s another year all alone when I have been for the past 45 years before…maybe he has found another companion, maybe he has ripped time and space apart to save Galafrey…I don’t care any more…I am just going to live my life and when he decides that he wants me in it for good then he will come back for me.” She said coldly.
“I’m sorry, when do you want to see Ianto…” Jack asked, as Owen came in and interrupted the conversation. He looked at Avalon and Avalon looked back at Owen and nodded.
“I’ll call him in; right now I have a session with Dr. Harper, if you will excuse me Jack.” Avalon said, Jack nodded and walked out, shutting the door behind him. Owen locked it and walked over to her, kissing her passionately. This was the ritual of the day, Owen always came in at the same time, he would fuck her raw and they would go about their day. Owen lifted up her skirt and fucked her raw, like he had for a year, kissed her goodbye and left. Avalon cleaned up and sighed…this is what the Doctor had made her into, a cheap fuck. There was a knock on the door, suddenly.
“Who is it?” She asked.
“It’s me Ianto, I was wondering if I could talk to you?”
“Come on in Ianto.” She said as she wondered if Jack had talked to Ianto. Ianto came in and smiled before sitting across from her. “So what did you want to talk about?” Avalon asked, getting up and closing the door.
“I had the same dream last night, this has been happening for a week…I didn’t come to you sooner because I thought it was just a fluke and it would stop.”
“I am listening.” She replied, pulling out his records.
“I am worried that it will get bad again that’s all.” Ianto said.
“Ianto, have you had dreams like these before recently, maybe during your childhood?”
“Every once and a while…and they always seemed to come true no mater what I did…”
“You suffered the Cassandra effect…these dreams would happen randomly?”
“Some times, other times they happened when I touched some one, or looked deeply into their eyes.”
“You would see into their souls…” She took off her glasses and rubbed her eyes.
“What, what does this all me Dr. Bristol?” Ianto asked, fear coming through a bit.
“It means you have a true sight ability…but yours seems to be different…obviously because you are a human…but a true seer…you sure this didn’t just manifest this recently?”
“No I am sure…Avalon please tell me what is going on?”
“I don’t know Ianto…For once I don’t know…I mean I could try and help you hone it but what you are seeing is just your future right that you have seen?”
“No…not always…” Ianto said slowly.
“Who else did you see; it’s ok to tell me, everything you say here doesn’t leave this room.”
“I have seen yours, I know what you are doing to your body Avalon…or should I say Athanasia…” Ianto said looking into her eyes. “I also know what you asked Jack to do to me…”
“No, Jack wanted you to live forever; I just helped him find the answer.” Avalon said.
“I thank you for that…I have also seen Jack’s…I refuse to tell anyone…” Ianto said.
“Ok, Ianto I am going to do some research on this and I may be able to help you after some research ok?” Avalon asked.
“I understand Avalon.” He got up and walked to the door before he turned around, his eyes going completely white. “He is coming Athanasia…he is coming closer to you…” With that Ianto’s eyes went back to normal as he walked out. Avalon sat there, left to her thoughts. Ianto went about his day, thinking about his talk with Avalon. The week seemed to go by in a flash. Avalon waited up all night for him to come but he never did, so she would shoot up and go to bed. Every morning she would look for any presence of him, but she never found any and she would check another day off. Avalon got dressed and made her way to work early; she needed to see if there was anything in the archives or if she could find anything out for Ianto. As she made her way to the office, the despair was becoming harder and harder to over come and she was running low on the orgasmic energy. She got to the Hub, making her way quickly into her office. Avalon sat down in her chair and pulled out the last vile she had left. It was half full as she eyed it, her hand going for the needle. Avalon plunged the needle in to the vile, taking every last drop she could of the vile. She tapped the needle; put the vile in the box, putting it in her bag. Avalon tied the tourniquet around her sore bruised arm tightly, ignoring the pain as she plunged the needle into her arm. The liquid went through her body quickly as she tossed the needle into her bag, before dropping into a coma like state. Jack heard someone come in early as he pulled himself away from a very naked, sexy, soundly sleeping Ianto. He walked into the bathroom and combed his hair before he pulled on sweat pants and a white undershirt. When Jack walked into the hub, he saw Avalon’s door open slightly and the light on so he decided to walk in and check on her. As Jack walked closer to the door he could tell something wasn’t right, the feeling of something bad was about to happen came over him. His pace quickened as he made his way to her office. He slowly knocked on the door, calling out to her.
“Avalon…Avalon are you ok?” All he got was silence, “Avalon it’s me Jack, can I come in?” Jack asked, fear seeping through ever so slightly. Avalon did not make a response, so Jack opened the door and was shocked by what he saw. Avalon’s bruised arm from the tourniquet that was still wrapped around her arm, the track marks she was hiding, and the over whelming scent of the Doctor. Avalon began to convulse as if in throws of pure ecstasy or in pure pain, or even in a combination of both. It took all the strength he had not to completely ravage her because she smelt like the Doctor. Coming back to his senses, he called all the team to the office, telling Owen that Avalon had overdosed on something. When he hung up from telling everyone, it seemed like Owen was there, running to Avalon’s office. Owen fought tears as he ran into her office and saw her, convulsing and drugged up. Owen ripped off her tourniquet, picked her up and carried her out of the office as his tears began to flow. Jack tried to help him and Owen just snapped at him as he laid her down on one of the hospital beds. Ianto got up at this time, feeling something was wrong. He dressed quickly in sweat pants and a black undershirt, before making his way to the hub. When he walked out, there was all sorts of commotion going on.
“What’s going on Jack? Where is Avalon?” Ianto asked. All Jack could do was point at the tied down body Owen was furiously working on. Ianto stared and said nothing as he turned on his heels and walked away; making tea and coffee for every one, knowing it was going to be a long day. Owen was able to get her stable but she was unresponsive to anyone. Owen sat beside her all day and all night for a week. Then he was so tired that he crawled onto a bed next to her and fell into an uneasy sleep. Ianto woke up with a start, as if he heard Avalon’s voice. He continued to hear it with her saying ‘Lead Me’. He had no idea what she meant by that as he got dressed. Jack was already up in his office, trying to think of what to do. Ianto kissed Jack lightly on his neck and walked out, making coffee and tea for the haggard looking team. No one could figure out what was it that she took. Suddenly the lift came down and a neat looking man came in. Jack came out wondering who was coming in and how they figured out how to work. Owen turned around as he took some more blood samples from Avalon. Jack recognized who it was and walked over to him.
“Doctor.” He said curtly.
“Hello Jack…not the warm welcome I was expecting…” He began to look around at the haggard faces, “Jack you really shouldn’t work everyone so hard.” Jack folded his arms across his chest.
“So what do I owe this visit to?” Jack said.
“I came by to talk to Athanasia, to tell her some things.”
“Well Doctor, she is right over there” Jack said, pointing at the tied down, lifeless looking body Owen was working on. “If you can get her to talk…no one else has been able to.” Jack watched the Doctor’s reaction. He was silent, almost deafeningly so as he walked over to Avalon’s lifeless body. Owen stood in front of the Doctor before he stepped aside. Ianto stood next to Jack and watched the Doctor slowly touch and caress Avalon. The voice was still talking to him, calling to him. Suddenly there was a crash of metal to concrete as the Doctor collapsed on the floor in a flood of tears, rocking back and forth. Owen walked over to him to help him up but all the Doctor could do was scream and cry.
“I should have never left her, I should have never left her, I should have never given her that box…I had an idea…but I should’ve never given her the opportunity…” the Doctor said, Jack listened to this as things clicked in his head. He slowly walked over to the Doctor, helped him up and walked him to Avalon’s office before sitting him down on her couch, with all of her things laid out on the desk. Jack walked out, shutting the door behind him. The Doctor sat there and looked at her things laid out…the needle, the tourniquet, and the silver box. He stood up and walked over to the desk, running his hands over everything. The Doctor noticed some of her notes on a notepad, dealing with Ianto and some ability she was trying to research. He didn’t hear the door open or close when hands went around his neck and he was pressed up against the wall, facing a very angry Jack.
“HOW COULD YOU LEAVE HER LIKE THAT? DO YOU CARE ABOUT ANYONE BUT YOURSELF ANYMORE? DOCTOR SHE LOVES YOU, BUT SHE DOESN’T DESERVE YOU! I KNOW YOU HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH HER CONDITION AND HER DRUG USE BECAUSE WE RAN SCANS AND IT CAME UP WITH YOUR DNA ALLLL OVER IT!” Jack was to the point of tears, mostly with anger and rage. He set the Doctor down on the floor, staring him in the eyes.
“I wanted to hold on to Galafrey Jack…my last link to there…”
“So you decided to drug Avalon?” Jack asked.
“I wanted to keep her connected to me, so I could come back to her, to keep my last piece of Galafrey.”
“God Damn it Doctor, she is in love with you before all this happened…and you thought she might leave you for some one else? How selfish are you?”
“How selfish are you Jack? You have been drugging Ianto to make him live forever!”
“Avalon gave me the means to do that…besides how do you know that?”
“I am a Time Lord! Where do you think I have been for the past year?”
“Not here with Avalon…I have had to watch her die a little inside every day, waiting for you to come back!”
“I can’t change the past Jack…this had to happen for a reason…but I didn’t think it would be this bad…”
“You knew all along and decided not to tell anyone how to help her?”
“Some one knows how to help her, he is trying to figure out his place…dealing with his human side and his immortal side…”
“Ianto…don’t you dare touch him!” Jack said protectively.
“I am not, Athanasia has, or she has tapped into his ability…Jack he is a seer like her, but he sees differently because of human side…” the Doctor said, Jack ran out the door and down to Ianto.
“Owen, I need all of Avalon’s test results…Ianto, watch Avalon while Owen is getting the results, Tosh, Gwen, keep an eye on the Doctor.” Jack said as everyone jumped to work. Ianto heard her voice become louder the closer he got to her, as if she was guiding him to her. As he sat down next to her, he unhooked her hand from the strap and took into his hand. Suddenly he was on a cliff, in a place he didn’t recognize, the sun was setting over a gleaming citadel. Then he saw Avalon, dressed in a long flowing robe, hugging every beautiful curve of her body from the light wind that blew across the cliff.
“Avalon?” Ianto asked walking closer to her. She cocked her head to the side, and smiled.
“You finally came Ianto.” She walked closer to him and touched his cheek like a lover would. Ianto caught himself moaning softly before he pulled away from her.
“Avalon, you asked me to lead you, lead you where?” Ianto asked. Suddenly a young looking man came up and stood beside her.
“Who is this Athanasia?” The man said kissing her on the neck.
“A friend…Did you see the Citadel Doctor?” She turned around and pointed out to it. Ianto stood there and watched them talk, kiss and hold. Then he saw them standing on the edge of the cliff and he felt compelled to walk over to them. He heard them speaking, making a commitment to each other as the Doctor moved Avalon’s ring over to her other hand.
“What has been promised in here, may nothing break it apart. I pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss.” Ianto said. Avalon looked at him and nodded before they kissed. Ianto knew everything when she nodded, as the two of them lay down one on top of the other as Ianto watched them make love. Once they finished, a very naked Avalon walked over to Ianto and whispered thanks before everything went black. Ianto was now staring at Jack, Owen and the Doctor, with Jack’s face full of worry.
“Ianto! Are you ok?” Jack said, going down on his knees beside him, “Your eyes were all white and you were unresponsive.” Ianto kissed Jack quickly before looking at the Doctor.
“Can I speak to you Doctor?” Ianto said, standing up. The Doctor nodded and walked over to a secluded corner of the hub. Before he walked over to the Doctor, he unstraped Avalon from the bed, “She should be fine Owen…if she does start shaking then go ahead, but I think she will be ok…” Ianto walked over to the Doctor.
“What did you need to speak to me about Ianto?” the Doctor asked.
“What is happening to me…I saw Avalon with some one on a cliff in some place with a citadel…very beautiful place…they were married…and I watched them before I was pulled back…” Ianto asked.
“You saw me…and Athanasia…that’s why…oh god…she needs me…” The Doctor said. He began to walk away but Ianto grabbed his arm.
“What am I Doctor, am I going to be like Jack…to the point where you or Avalon will have nothing to do with me?”
“No you are not going to be like Jack…you are so wonderful and full of life, and have helped me greatly, thank you Ianto. Now on to the fact of what you are…you are unique…you are half Time lord and half human with a true sight ability, which confounds me…let me see if I can get together with Athanasia and we can try and figure it out.” Ianto let go of the Doctor’s arm and watched him walk away. Jack walked over to him, he face stern and unreadable.
“What’s going on Ianto?” Jack asked.
“Avalon is still in a drug coma, married properly to the Doctor now, apparently she needed that, the Doctor realized something dealing with that, and from what I got from the Doctor…I am half human, half Time lord…with a true sight ability, but neither Avalon nor the Doctor know why it happened or why it manifested, so once Avalon wakes up and is cleared by Owen they are going to work on it together.” Ianto said, looking like a deer in the headlights. Suddenly Jack saw Ianto’s eyes begin to roll up into his head as his knees began to buckle, he grabbed him quickly. Not saying anything to anyone, he took Ianto into their old bedroom and laid him down. Ianto had been over stimulated by what happened and he needed to just take a break. Jack came back down and looked at everyone. Gwen came up to him and stood beside him,
“What is the status on her Gwen?” Jack asked, rubbing his eyes.
“Nothing has changed besides the fact that the Doctor and Owen are at each others throats about how to treat Avalon…Athanasia…what ever her name is…Tosh and I are about to go grab something to eat. What happened to Ianto, one minute he was taking to you and the next he was in your arms and you were walking into your office, he is going to be ok, right?” Gwen asked.
“Yeah…he will be fine.” He turned and looked at Gwen seeing the dark circles under her eyes. “Go home Gwen…just go home and relax. I will call if anything changes. Tell Tosh too, I am going to go talk to Owen and the Doctor.” Jack said as he made his way down to Owen and the Doctor. He heard them squabbling about something and waited for them to quiet down so he could speak.
“Jack tell him,” Owen said pointing at the Doctor, “Tell him that Avalon needs to stay here under my watchful eye because she is a team member and I watch over them.” Jack looked at the Doctor waiting for him to say something.
“Will you tell him that I know more about Athanasia than anyone else and I should know what she needs.” The Doctor rebutted.
“Doctor, TARDIS keys, all of them please.” Jack said opening his hand. The Doctor grumbled and gave them over. Jack stuffed them in his jacket, “Owen go home and relax, I will call if there is anything for Avalon I need.” Owen looked at him, dumbfounded by his words. “That’s an order Owen.” Owen said nothing, grabbed his stuff and left. “Doctor, I am going to escort you and…” Jack had to think for a moment, finally giving up on what name to call her, “Avalon to her home where you will watch over her but you may not leave here, the TARDIS is off limits, do I make myself clear? Also I need you to find out about Ianto, he just passed out and I am hoping it is just stress but by god Doctor I will kill you if you hurt him at all.” Jack said, staring into his eyes. The Doctor nodded and unhooked everything from Avalon before picking her up. Jack had the Doctor follow him to the SUV. Avalon was placed in the back as Jack rushed to the house and got her in her bedroom. Jack left them there and headed back to the hub, leaving the SUV on, picking up Ianto from the bedroom and driving back to their house. Jack laid him down in bed before joining him, holding him protectively.
