Chapter Six
Clark went into the boy’s locker room where all the guys were changing for Lois to be right behind him.
“You’re not suppose to be in here,” he said trying to stop her, “It’s in the rules Lois, I read them yesterday.”
“Such a geek,” she said pushing passed him to stare down some poor helpless victim, “Excuse me,” she said smiling seductively at the shirtless boy, “How well did you know Brett Anderson?”
“Not as well as I’d like to get to know you sugar,” the young man said and Lois saw him poking through his towel.
“Charming,” she said rolling her eyes at his audacity, “He just said hello to my windshield and I would like for one of you horny dicks to tell me why.”
“Don’t look at me,” one said followed by others as Clark walked off to look around. Why were goes so weird? What was horny?
He spotted a jersey in front of the shower and picked it up to see that it had the number “87” on it. Clark’s face turned thoughtful. Brett?
The shower was still on and steam was coming out of the vent. He looked closer to see something that was golden lying close to the drain.
He stepped into the shower and picked it up to see that it was a necklace that had a pendant on it. The pendant was an “A” with sparkling blue gems on it. He held it up and looked at it as it twirled around in the light. Didn’t Abby have this on earlier?

The Talon was closed and there was a package addressed to it sitting on the table. Lex saw it and just had to open it. It had all kinds of books inside on ancient writings and different languages. Well, wasn’t this just curious?
A door closed and Lana made her way the steps to see him looking at her stuff, “Is Lex Luthor going through my mail?”
“Sorry,” he said not really looking at her, “The box was addressed to the Talon.”
Such a lovely save Lex. You are one smooth ice prince.
He held up one the books smiling, “Book of the Month Club?”
He picked up some more ignoring Lana’s annoyed look, “What’s up with all the interest in ancient languages?”
“I have a school project,” she lied.
“Clark was always doing the same thing,” he mused, “You two do seem to have a lot in common Lana.”
She walked over and picked up one of the books that had a symbol on the cover that was exactly like her tattoo, and what was on Isobel’s tomb. This was all so strange and she wanted some answers.
“It still amazes me what you did with this place,” he told her walking around to look the place over, “You saw so much in something that everyone else was just ready to burn to the ground.”
“Well isn’t this odd,” Lana said putting the book down to turn and look at him, “I’ve never seen this side of you before. You almost sound nostalgic.”
Lex smirked, “How’s Clark?”
“He’s good,” Lana said welcoming the change of subject, “Still lost.”
“Yeah,” Lex said looking down at her.
“He called me tiny,” she said in an annoyed voice, “And he actually thought I was trying out for the football team.”
“Really,” Lex asked in amusement even though he did not show it.
“Coffee,” Lana asked walking over behind the counter to put a cup on for herself and since she was at it she might as well just ask him as well.
Lex smiled, “Of course.”

Clark was walking towards the house and bent down so he did not break the arch as he went up the steps. His dad was standing there looking really upset. He was so in trouble and he knew it.
“Congratulations,” Jonathan said sounding hurt and really pissed both at the same time, “Your coach called and said you made the football team.”
“Really,” Clark asked looking really excited and then stopped when he saw the way his dad turned and looked at him.
Clark frowned, “I’m not going to hurt anyone Dad. I’ve been really careful with my gifts.”
“I’m worried about you hurting yourself,” Jonathan said as the fuse only got shorter, “You are going to be tempted to run just a little bit faster…to throw the ball just far enough to win every game that you play.”
“You think I’m not playing fair,” Clark asked looking hurt. It was not his fault that he was so different. Didn’t he deserve the chance to do something that he really wanted?
“I won’t cross that line,” he said.
Jonathan laughed and it hurt Clark, “You won’t even know where that line is Clark until you trip and fall over it.”
Now he was just starting to get mad. His dad didn’t trust him and it hurt.
“You’re out there and your team mates are giving it their all,” Jonathan said walking up to him, “You’re going to do whatever it takes to win.”
“What are you saying,” Clark deadpanned.
“That’s football son,” Jonathan said, “And with you it’s never going to be a fair competition.”
“Fair,” Clark asked, “Why is it that I have to be left out of everything because I’m different?”
Jonathan only stared at him and Clark continued, “I know I’m different but I can at least try and be like everyone else. Normal!”
Jonathan tried to say something but blinked and Clark was gone. The door slammed shut and he knew Clark had locked himself in his room.
“That went well,” he said and shook his head.

“You aren’t the first person to walk through my doors with tattoo remorse Miss Lang,” Doctor Fine said looking at the interesting piece of body art, “But you are the first one whose done it without using ink of course.”
“What,” Lana asked wrinkling her forehead in confusion, “What do you mean without ink? How in the world could it not be ink?”
“Whatever this pigment is,” she said as Lana moved to sit up on the examination table, “It’s almost as though this symbol was branded underneath your skin.”
Lana reached over and picked up her shirt to put it on, “It looks to me like someone wanted to leave a mark on you that you wouldn’t forget.”
“But it can be removed,” Lana asked willing her to say yes.
“I will send this tissue sample over to the lab and see what they have to say,” Fine told her as she looked it over herself, “But I am guessing that the removal of your tattoo will not be possible without a complete skin graft.”
Lana felt like crying and Fine smiled, “You go to school with my daughter, don’t you Lana?”
“I’m not one to ever forget a face,” she said looking at Lana’s, “Especially one that is as lovely and perfect as yours.”
Lana frowned when Fine said, “It must get you anything you want.”
Suddenly the door opened and both looked up.
“Abby,” Lana said with a smile welcoming the wonderful intrusion, “How’s Brett? I saw the two of you in the hall talking. I hope he’s all right?”
“I have no clue what you’re talking about Lana,” Abby said sounding really upset. Why did bad shit always have to happen to her? This was suppose to be a new start where she was suppose to get whatever her pretty face and perfect body wanted. Now her kiss was making people turn crazy.
Fine stepped towards her daughter and Lana quickly said, “I’ll talk to you later.”
She got up off the table and thanked Fine before she left the room in a hurry. That was so odd. Lana knew she saw the two of them together. Why was she lying about it? Did she do something to hurt Brett?
“What did you do to me,” Abby hissed just as soon as Lana left, “I kissed a guy and he went crazy.”
“You were my first trial Abby,” her mother said running her fingers through her daughter’s lovely new hair, “There is always potential for certain problems.”
“Complications,” Abby cried, “Brett is in the hospital because of me Mom.”
“Brett,” her mother asked, “Isn’t he the one who calls you Scabby Abby?”
Abby stopped and her mother said, “Maybe he got exactly what he deserved for treating you the way he did…and Lana needs to be punished to.”
“Lana,” Abby asked in confusion, “Lana never did anything to me. She was nice to me.”
“Lana saw the two of you together in the hall,” Fine said, “She’s beginning to ask questions Abby.”
“You think she knows,” Abby asked starting to get scared.
“This is very serious Abigail,” her mother whispered, “If Lana says anything about what happened between you and that boy all of this will be taken away from me.”
Abby was in tears when her mom went on to say, “And without me giving you your special treatments you’ll go back to the way you used to be.”
“I don’t want that,” Abby whispered, “I like me now.”
“I have done everything for you sweetheart,” her mom told her, “And now I need you to do something for me.”
“Okay,” Abby said as a tear fell from her eye.
Her mom wiped it away, “Who wants chocolate?”

It was dark. Well of course it was dark. The lights were off for Christ’s sake. What in the hell was Jason up to? She had better not fall.
Suddenly the lights went on and her eyes widened in awe. The room was beautiful. He had decorated it just for her. There was even a disco ball hanging from the ceiling making lights play all around the room.
“It’s the old drama room,” he told her.
“Wow,” Lana laughed, “It’s beautiful Jason.”
He smiled and she kissed him, “This is an interesting detour from the Coaches’ office though. I didn’t even know this room even existed.”
“Really,” Jason asked, “Hopefully neither does anyone else.”
“I still can’t believe you have a job at my school though,” she laughed, “It’s so weird.”
“I know,” he said watching her look around at everything in awe, “I guess I’m going to have to get use my guys drooling over you like love sick puppies.”
“I don’t think you have to worry about that,” she said giving him a disgusted face.
“Yeah,” he asked watching the lights, “What about Clark Kent?”
“You don’t have to worry about Clark,” she said and then thought to herself seeing him kissing Lex, “He’s playing for the other team, literally.”
“I thought you said you had a surprise for me,” she said looking around.
“I do,” he said pulling out a blindfold.
“Oh dear,” she said looking at it, “That would be a blindfold.”
Why was she suddenly getting the feeling that something bad was about to happen?
“Yep,” he said moving to put it on her.
“All right,” she said allowing it, “So what do you think you’re going to get out of this Coach?”
“You have such a dirty mind Lana,” he said smiling as he put it on her, “We never got to celebrate your birthday.”
“Oh,” she said, “Right.”
Did he have to make it so tight?
“Stay right here,” he said and quickly got to his feet.
“Okay,” she said listening to him walk away to go get something.
“Don’t peak,” he called and went out the door.
She sat there in silence for a few seconds and then asked, “Jason?”
She waited a few seconds and got no reply, “Jason?”
Suddenly she was being kissed and she felt funny. These were not Jason’s lips. These lips were scented with…cherry lip gloss? She quickly removed the blindfold which she should have done earlier.
“Abby,” Lana asked looking at her more confused than when Clark asked her what school was.
“I’m sorry Lana,” Abby said backing away for Lana to suddenly see herself in the mirror. Her face was rotting off.
Abby wanted to help her but she was too afraid to. She watched Lana back away to look into another mirror to see even more of her face rotting. She looked at Abby with tears in her eyes and Abby quickly ran away in tears at what she had done. Beauty had a terrible price.
Lana lost her balance and fell back against a mirror to look up and see her rotting face falling for her. She let out a blood chilling scream as she fell for the mirror to shatter over her.

“I don’t know if you can hear me Lana,” Jason said at her bedside watching the way the moonlight shown across her face from the window, “But if you knew how much you meant to me…”
“I guess the polite thing to do is cough and let you know I’m standing here,” a voice colder than the hand of winter said from behind him and Jason actually shivered, “But that always seems so fake, doesn’t it?”
Jason was shocked. It was Lex Luthor. This was just fucking great. What was his biggest “mistake” ever doing here?
“How is she,” Lex asked looking down at his friend who had cuts on her face.
“They don’t know,” Jason said.
“Why are you,” Lex asked the same time Jason did which made Lex chuckle.
He looked down at Lana, “She deserves the best,” and he turned to walk towards the door but not without turning to look back at his biggest “mistake” ever, “Are you it Jason?”
He turned and left. Jason stood there and watched the ice prince leave. He didn’t know what to do. So he just stood there and watched that long shadow disappear.

The next morning Clark was looking through the window into Lana’s room when Chloe bolted around the corner all golden, “How is she?”
“She’s been cut,” Clark said with a sad voice looking back at Lana who was still knocked out from the drugs she had been given to help her rest, “They gave her a “sedative” but she kept screaming at the top of her lungs, “Don’t let him see me!”
“A breakdown,” Chloe said looking in at her.
“Brett did the same thing,” Clark said looking down at her. Her hair was like gold in the bright sunlight, “They said something they had in common was a spike in their serotonin levels.”
“Serotonin,” Chloe asked.
“Its this brain chemical,” Clark said and she cocked an eyebrow and he blushed, “I used the internet.”
“Ah,” Chloe said, “Sort of like an LSD hallucinogenic mimic.”
Clark nodded, “Its weird.”
“Its also the word Lois misspelled four times,” Chloe said, “In her lovely article for extra credit on extreme makeovers.”
Clark frowned, “Brett is handsome and Lana is pretty. I don’t think they would be the type of people who needed plastic surgery.”
“Yeah, but Abby thought she was,” Chloe said and then got an idea, “Didn’t Lana say she saw Brett with Abby in the hall just before he went loco.”
Clark thought back and his eyes darkened when Chloe said, “Maybe this procedure made her more beast than beauty Clark.”
Clark frowned, “But Abby’s nice.”
“Looks can be deceiving Clark,” she said taking his big hand in hers, “Come on.”
888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888
Lois smiled at Dr. Fine as she took a seat in her office, “My dad just doesn’t understand me. He says that I’m way too young to even think about plastic surgery,” she said and then whined when she pointed at her nose, “Just look how big my honker is.”
“Well,” Fine said fighting not to snort, “Some parents just don’t remember what it was like. When I was your age I wasn’t exactly the homecoming queen.”
Lois nodded and Fine continued, “I worked harder than all the pretty girls and I just watched everything get handed to them like they had deserved it in some way.”
Lois smiled and Fine went on to tell her about how seven surgeries and two years later changed all that. Lois wanted to smack this idiot silly. She really did give blondes a bad name.
“I was actually interested in your new procedure that you used on Abby,” Lois said smiling while looking thoughtful, “Is it true that you only have to come in once?”
“Yes,” Fine said nodding her head, “That is why I designed the procedure.”
She could not allow her daughter to be picked on for her looks any longer. It was just too painful to hold her daughter who came home crying everyday after school let out. A mother could only take so much before she had to do something to make her baby happy.
“I didn’t want to watch my daughter go through the same pain I had to at her age,” she said looking at Lois.
Lois nodded and in some sick way she understood, “I understand.”
Fine smiled, “Let me just sign you up right here,” she said clicking on her mouse.
“Yes please,” Lois said looking at the computer only for a clicking to go off in her bag.
“That would be my cell,” she said picked up her bag only for Fine to grab it from her.
“Are you recording this,” Fine hissed.
Lois took it from her, “I’m so going to expose you.”
She turned to leave and Fine snapped, “Who are you to stop people from being their very best?”
“Beauty is on the inside,” Lois hissed turning to face the mad woman. She turned to leave only for Fine to grab her by the hair causing Lois to cry out as he was jabbed in the neck by a needle.
“The ones who say that,” Fine said as Lois slowly sank to the floor, “Are the ones who already have it on the outside.”
8888888888888888888888888888888888888888888
“Okay,” Chloe said walking into the Torch to find it all in a clutter.
“Wow,” Clark said looking around the room, “Messy.”
“Lois,” Chloe hissed, “She’s been pulling these articles Abby’s mom published on this new breath through makeover technique…but she ran into a snag.”
She handed the article to Clark who instantly devoured the new knowledge, “Its sending the patients serotonin levels into overdrive.”
“Wow,” she said, “You do read fast.”
Clark smiled at the compliment and then frowned, “So Abby was the first?”
“She must be passing something through to people,” Chloe said walking up to him, “That’s sending people’s serotonin levels into overdrive.”
“She kissed Brett,” Clark said and then frowned, “Does that mean she kissed Lana?”
“I don’t know,” Chloe said, “Because Abby’s not hallucinating.”
“The Serythro medication,” Clark said looking at the files, “Maybe Lana and Brett need it?”
Chloe took the files from him and looked them over and then looked up at him smiling, “I think so,” she said picking up Lois’s planner only to frown in worry, “Looks like Lois is already ahead of us.”
“Let’s go,” Clark said and Chloe was right behind him only for Clark to stop and look at her with confused green eyes, “Where are we going?”
Chloe rolled her eyes and took his hand again, “Come on.”
888888888888888888888888888888888888888888
Lois slowly opened her eyes and realized that she could not move. She was strapped down tight. She gasped when she looked up to see Fine looking down at her, “What’re you doing?”
“Giving you the scoop,” she said putting a hand on her breast, “You really want to know what it was like for Abigail all of these years, right?”
She tightened the straps and grabbed Lois’s cheeks giving them a mighty fine squeeze, “Well my pretty, you’re just about to fine out.”
Lois really began to panic when the top of the machine began to lower. There had to be thousands of needles in that fucker. She was going to scream.
“And without the suppressant to balance out your serotonin levels,” Fine said gleefully, “You’ll be playing reporter in the nut house my dear.”
Suddenly Clark ran through the glass door to rip the top of the machine off of Lois only to fall flat on his face from all the green meteor rock gas. He got to his feet and stumbled back only for Fine to knock him across the face with a hard metal tray. He cried out in pain and went down hard.
“Clark,” Lois shouted and quickly kicked Fine in the face when she got close enough.
Fine shrieked and fell back into a table for glass to fall on her. Lois quickly removed her restraints and got up to help Clark.
“Clark,” she yelled over the hissing gas as she got to his side to help him up. He was really in a lot of pain. He needed to get out of here.
“Help me,” he whispered through clenched teeth, “Get me out of here.”
“Okay,” she said fighting to get him up so he could lean against her, “Come on.”
Fine reached for a scalpel and got to her feet. She began to sneak up behind the two of them only for Lois to spin around with a round house kick which knocked her square across the face, “Fucking bitch!”
Fine went down.
88888888888888888888888888888888888888
Clark was glad that Lana was okay and Brett was going to be fine too. He was walking up the drive to see his dad putting bails of hay away.
“I guess your practice ran a little late,” Jonathan said, “Huh?”
“I didn’t mean to disappoint you Dad,” Clark said walking up to him, “But I’m staying on the team.”
Jonathan turned around and Clark said, “I just want to be like the way I use to be.”
“I realize that Son,” Jonathan said, “And I also realize you’re a senior in high school and from now on you’ll be making a lot of your own decisions.”
Clark smiled and his dad said, “Now adults in this family do not run off and do things without discussing them first.”
“I realize that now and it was wrong of me to go behind your back and think you wouldn’t find out,” Clark told him and Jonathan was amazed at how honest that was, “But are you really going to let some ex-coach from Met U teach me how to play football?”
Jonathan laughed. His old son was starting to show up in those bright green eyes.
