Chapter 7

All I Ask of You

Rachel sighed, once more only clad in her underwear and John's shirt. She was snuggled in the heap of blankets that occupied Rodney's bed. She planned on getting some more sleep after having been so rudely awakened.

John and Rodney had finally gotten up, cleaned up as much as possible and dressed by the time the door chimed. The two were sitting on Rodney's couch, Rodney's laptop up and in the middle of a Dr. Who episode. The two glanced nervously at each other before John got up to answer the door. A lieutenant stood in front of him, looking disheveled.

"Yes, lieutenant?" John drawled, seemingly at peace with everything in the universe.

"Colonel, Dr. Weir has sent me to bring you to the control room. We have a situation and Dr. McKay is needed down in the labs. She tried radioing you two, but neither of you were answering." he almost huffed out in annoyance. John nodded, turning slightly, keeping the view of the bedroom blocked.

"Hear that, Rodney? We'll have to finish watching that episode later." Rodney nodded, shutting off his laptop and brushing past the lieutenant and John as he hurried towards his labs. John shrugged at the lieutenant's look.

"It's Rodney," he explained. The lieutenant nodded and he escorted John to the control room.

"So, I hear that you needed me?" Elizabeth turned and looked at John.

"We have hive ships. Lots of them, heading for us. They should be here in twelve hours. We need that weapon online, now." John nodded.

"I'll be where Rodney is, then." He turned on his heel, going down towards the labs.

~

"Rodney!"

"Working on it!" came the automated reply. John rolled his eyes.

"So I assume that you already know about the hives ships-"

"And that we need this weapon, now. Yes, yes, yes, I know, now shut up. Let me work." Radek rolled his eyes giving Rodney data pad after data pad as Rodney tried to figure out the right conduit route to get power to the weapon without blowing them up in the process.

"Anything I can do to help?"

"You could shut up. Not only would that help me, but maybe the whole universe, too." John sighed, leaning against the wall as he let his scientist work.

Rachel sat up in bed after stretching. She looked at the clock and shrugged. She had managed to get another two hours of sleep and she was happy with that, at least. She quickly got dressed and decided to keep John's shirt on. It was comfortable, what could she say?

She made her way down to the labs, wanting to ask Radek if he had been the one to help her get to Rodney's room before the lieutenant. When she walked into the lab, she was greeted with the sight of scientists scrambling around as Rodney snapped at them and yelled about their incompetence; he was continuously moving around the lab, making notes here and there. She spotted John leaning against the wall and walked over to him.

"I'm getting the feeling I missed something?" She gestured towards the almost war zone looking sight in front of them. John nodded.

"Yeah, we got hive ships on their way, they'll be here in," he looked at his watch, "about ten hours." Rachel sighed.

"Great. Rodney!"

"Busy!" She rolled her eyes and walked over to where Radek sat typing furiously on his key board. She leaned over his shoulder, her mouth closer to his ear this time.

"Radek?" He would have fallen to the floor in surprise if Rachel hadn't been standing behind him.

"Ye-yes?" he asked, his cheeks already flushing.

"What can I do to help?" Radek looked around desperately, wanting to find something that would make Rachel leave his little personal bubble of space.

"Uh, I think, well, I don't know for sure, but you might be able to-"

"Rachel!" It was followed by a short and sharp whistle. Rachel looked around, looking for the source of the sound.

"What?" There was a snapping sound suspiciously coming from where Rodney was.

"I'm not a dog, you know." He spared her a glance – she could see him rolling his eyes.

"Yes, I know, but treating people like dogs seems to be the only way for them to pay attention. Now, you," he pointed accusingly at Rachel, "stop bothering Radek, I need him to finish up with his calculations."

"I was not bothering Radek!" Her hands planted themselves on her hips as she glared.

"Sure, and talking into his ear like that is really going to keep him on task, hm, right. I need you to go with John and get the jumpers ready. We almost have this figured out and we need the jumpers to help distract the hive ships and take care of the darts while we get this weapon working. John, you need to tell Rachel exactly what to do to fly the jumper, because you'll be needed here, when the time comes, to sit in the chair." He managed to stop what he was doing for a whole second to look at them both.

"Well?" he snapped, "Move!"

Rachel smiled, giving the still blushing Radek a kiss on the lips, oblivious to the other scientists around them, staring openly at her display. If possible, Radek turned even redder, when Rachel pulled away and linked her arm through Johns.

"Lead the way, flyboy."

~

"So, I just use my mind, basically?" John nodded.

"Yeah, you do. These are the controls that allow you cloak the jumper, this is the weapons console and the rest comes to life when you think about it. Oh, and these," he pointed, "these make you fly in a straight line. Think you can handle that?" She smiled up at him.

"I'm a pro at video games, I think I can handle this, too," she said smugly and he smiled, giving her a pat on the back.

"Good. I'm going to go back to the labs, you stay here and keep familiarizing yourself with the controls. The other pilots will be down here shortly, so just follow their lead, all right? I'll let them know that you're going to be flying jumper 1 instead of me." she nodded.

"Cool. See you later, then."
