Chapter 7

AN: Thanks again for reading and I hope the rewrites live up to all our expectations

EvilClone and DarkLight: Here’s two chapters…just for you guys. Lol, hope the wait wasn’t too long.

And finally, she awakes. Her thoughts, speech and actions will be in italics (ANs will now be bolded and in italics to avoid confusion). Here we go! Enjoy!

Lee Adama stood just outside one of Galactica’s docking bays awaiting the arrival of Colonial One.

“Hard seal confirmed, Sir.” One of the bay workers stated. At Lee’s nod, he opened the hatch to show Laura Roslin along with most of her attendee’s standing behind her.

Lee smiled at the older woman. “It’s nice to have you aboard the Galactica again, President.”

She smiled back. “It’s nice to be back, Lieutenant.” She walked over to him, holding her hand out. As the two shook, those that stood behind her exited the Colonial One moving away from the pair to arrange for the President’s accommodations.

Laura waited until she was certain no one can overhear her. “What’s happened?”

Lee motioned down the hallway and the two walked as he spoke. “A lot actually. I was surprised you didn’t rush over.”

She chuckled. “I wanted too. Unfortunately, D’Anna Biers was among the reporters and I didn’t want her to ask questions on why I left the conference so soon.”

Lee nodded understanding her actions. Neither understood Adama’s reasoning behind allowing the Cylon agent to remain free but assumed that he must have something planned in the near future.

“One of the Earthlings suffered an allergic reaction to the vaccine.” Laura gasped at the news while Lee continued. “She started to seizure and we were forced to open the pod in order to save her life.”

“Is she okay?” The President asked.

“I haven’t been back to the hanger bay since it occurred. I only know that the reports say that she’s stable.” He said.

Laura looked behind her and noticed that several members of her entourage including Billy trailed behind.

“Billy, Commander Adama requests my presence. Lieutenant Apollo has graciously offered to escort me. Please, make sure all the arrangements have been seen too.” Laura smiled at the young man before continuing. “And than see if Petty Officer Dualla is off-duty.”

Billy smiled and nodded quickly before gathering the others and headed the opposite direction.

President Roslin turned back towards Apollo. “Let’s find out how our Earthling is doing.”

The pair walked the maze of halls towards the corridor that led to the authorization point.

Images flashed in her mind like strobe lightening. She was barely able to recognize one before another took its place.

A voice she soon recognized as her own said. “What is it?”

“Ancient text.” Someone familiar replied. A brief glimpse of aged paper with strange writings flashed.

The scene changed again to the ocean.

“This changes everything.” A voice whispered as the dark waves of the sea crashed alongside a boat. Twinkling starlight the only light illuminating the swells of water.

Lee stood next to Laura as Dr. Cottle updated them on the status of the patient.

“She’s doing remarkable well. All scans show that her brain activity has almost returned to normal. And she is having brief bouts of consciousness, seconds right now. But I expect that she’ll fully awaken fairly soon. I hate to say this but it looks like the Cylons did a remarkable job in approving on the cryogenic technique” The older man reported.

“What else were you able to find?” Laura asked.

Lee heard the slightest noise coming from behind him, slightly obscured by the privacy screen. As Laura and Cottle continued their discussion, Lee walked towards the area

He entered the area and noticed that rapidly eye movement of the unconscious woman, he approached the bed and realized that the noise he heard was coming from her. Slight whisperings in a language he didn’t understand. He leaned forward, trying to make out what she was saying.

Another familiar face surrounded by long blonde hair. “There going to take it away from us.”

“They can’t, it’s ours. We found it, we should fly it.” Her voice replied. Feelings of frustration obvious.

The woman in front of her snorted indelicately. “Yeah, like that will ever happen.”

Relief at the memory of acceptance and excitement at future discoveries. The first feeling of being lifted away from firm ground.

Before Lee could call for the doctor, the woman next to him inhaled deeply and opened her eyes. Lee stood stunned as the dazed green eyes focused and turned in his direction.

“Hi.” He whispered. He knew he should call out for Dr. Cottle but seeing the confusion and slight fear in her eyes, he didn’t want to startle her by speaking loudly. He felt compelled to continue speaking to her. “Your okay. Safe.”

‘Where am I? Is this Earth? It has to be…otherwise who’s this guy? I’m so confused. What happened?’

The green eyes continued to watch him closely as he leaned over further. Placing his hand on his chest, he said slowly and softly. “I’m Lee Adama. Lee.”

Her most recent memories came to the fore front. They were attacked. Only one thought permeated her thoughts afterwards. ‘Danger!’ All else was drowned out except for the utmost fear of her plight.

Fear completely replaced the confusion in her eyes. She glanced around her wildly, looking for an escape.

Noticing the actions, Lee held up his hands. “It’s okay. Your safe.” He said a little more loudly, hoping that Dr. Cottle would hear him and join him.

The green eyes swung back to him and he watched as the gaze inspected him.

Quicker than he ever expected, the woman reached for a tray of instruments and knocking its contents on the floor he watched in momentary confusion as the object was swung towards him.

The initial collision of the tray with his face didn’t hurt but stunned him, he instinctually grabbed the object, pulling it away from him. He struggled with the item momentarily and realized that she held the tray against his face obscuring his vision. A split second later he felt a small hand grab his side arm and yank.

He backed away as he felt the weapon release from its catch.

The sound of crashing instruments and the trays collision brought Dr. Cottle and President Roslin into the secluded area.

Lee glanced at the now standing woman in a light blue hospital gown, holding his hands outward in an attempt to calm her.

“What’s going on?” Laura asked, surprised that the woman was now standing and armed.

Lee swallowed, calming his racing heart. The woman was aiming wildly at the three of them and it was obvious that she was confused and scared.

“What’s going on? Where am I?”

Before Lee could even attempt to reply to the unknown questions, three Marines pushed aside some of the privacy screens and aimed their weapons at their supposed threat.

“NO! DON”T SHOOT! THAT’S AN ORDER!” Lee yelled. The Marines complied by lowering the weapons but still ready to engage the target. Lee motioned over to the three soldiers. “Look…the safety is still on. She’s not a threat.”

The gun trembled in the slim hand of the woman. She took in the three new arrivals and the larger weapons. She gazed around her at the others, her arm following her movements, unsure where or who to aim the gun she held. Her vision expanded to the whole of the bay except for what was left behind the remaining standing screen and realized that it was filled with other people who had stop in whatever it was they were doing previous. She gasped as she recognized her ship. Suddenly an idea began to form. If she could just reach her ship, she would be able to leave and find out where she was and where the rest of the members of her crew were.

Lee watched as the woman came to a decision. Not wanting to scare her anymore he tried to draw closer to her.

Seeing his movement at the corner of her eye, she swung the weapon over to him.

“STAY BACK!” She yelled at the approaching man.

Lee backed away a few steps with his arms in front of him. “Doctor?”

“She’s confused. Disoriented. And still weak. I don’t suggest rushing her, it might cause more harm than good. Just talk her out of it, Lee.” Cottle replied to the unspoken question hoping the situation could be resolved without violence.

The woman slowly walked backwards and to the left, watching the armed group carefully and with her own weapon aimed at them. As she cleared a safe distance from the armed guards, she began walking towards the main area, in essence walking backwards with her upper body slightly twisted to keep an eye on the rest of the occupants of the room to make sure no one tried to sneak up on her.

“Sir?” One of the Marines questioned.

“Let her go.” Lee said as he matched the steps she was taking but keeping a safe distance. As the two passed the Marines, Lee attempted to calm the young woman. “Hey…hey.” With his voice he drew her attention back to himself. “It’s okay. Your safe.” He repeated, hoping that the soothing calmness of his voice would let the woman understand the meaning behind his words and she would relinquish the weapon.

She continued to keep the gun trained on him unknowing that it would not fire. Her peripheral vision showed that the other people surrounding her ship had moved away allowing her and the man in front of her to travel to it without hindrance.

She was so close. With two simple words, she could open the hatch and before the man in front of her could do anything, she could close it. Once inside, she would be safe enough until she could power up the engines and get out of this place.

As she approached the back of her ship, she spoke. “Open Sesame.”

Lee, as well as everyone else on the hanger bay, were startled when the ship began to open.

“It was voice activated.” Chief Tyrol whispered in surprise and awe next to Lee. “That’s why we couldn’t find it.”

Lee gave a brief glance to the man next to him before returning to the Earthling.

The woman turned suddenly and made a run for the ramp that had touched down. Lee began to chase her.

Half way up the ramp the woman stopped, staring into the ship. Lee halted almost crashing into the woman. Noticing that she had stopped suddenly and now looked into the ship, he glanced up.

“Oh, frak.” Lee said. He grabbed the woman by the shoulders and jumped off the side of the ramp. Both crashed onto the hard surface, Lee taking the brunt of the fall and the woman falling on top of him. “GET DOWN!” He yelled to his fellow crewmates.

Before the occupants of the large bay could respond, the clanking of metal against metal reverberated across the room as four Cylon Centurions exited the ship. Soon after, gunfire swept the room as Galactica’s occupants took cover.

Lee looked over the shoulder of the woman he struggled against him. He watched as the Centurions walked down the ramp and reached the main area, firing their weapons. While the walking toasters were the older models and were not as well armed and protected as the newer Centurions, they were efficient enough to cause mass hysteria in the hanger.

He could hear screams throughout the room including the shouts of the Marines that rushed forward and engaged the Centurions. The woman finally turned over onto her back while still laying against him.

She raised her stolen weapon and attempted to fire at the nearest Cylon. As the gun clicked without result, she began to glance at it, even shaking it slightly, hoping to find out the reason behind its malfunction.

Noticing her actions, Lee grasped the weapon around her hand, clicked the safety off with his thumb and placing his finger over hers on the trigger, fired. The round entered into the junction between shoulder and neck of the Cylon, affectively reaching its target without it realizing the danger that laid behind him.

The Cylon never saw the shot that ultimately destroyed him. As he fell to the ground however, the machine next to him turned towards where the shot was fired. He walked menacing to the two people lying on the floor beside the ship.

Lee continued to fire his weapon around the hand of the woman buteach shot ricocheted off the metal armor of the Cylon. As it drew closer and raised its weapon, Lee began to pull at the woman on top of him trying to get both of them away from the approaching enemy. He continued to shoot hoping to get in one lucky shot.

A brief thought pushed its way to the forefront. ‘Why hasn’t he fired, yet?’ He pushed that thought away as they had reached an obstacle that stopped their movement away from the approaching robot.

As the last round exited the weapon, he rolled so that he laid on top of the woman, protecting her from the approaching Cylon. He shut his eyes, bracing himself against the bullet that would surely kill him.

Several moments passed and Lee noticed a quietness that now swept through the room. His harsh breathing as well as the woman’s underneath him were the only sounds his ears registered.

He glanced over his shoulder to see Boomer standing not far away. Her own weapon raised and a small tendril of smoke curling up from the barrel. Lee glanced down and saw the Cylon that had recently been about to attack laying there.

The woman underneath him began struggling again. Lee pulled away slightly to look down at her. She ceased her struggles as she turned over and gazed up at the man.

“Like I said. Your safe. We mean you no harm.” Lee whispered, staring intently into the green eyes.

She knew she was in shock. Seeing those things that had attacked her crew earlier and remembering how one had strangled her into unconsciousness, literally freaked her out. The man…the one that had tried so hard to tell her something…had saved her when her limbs had refused to obey her mental commands to run.

Lee stood up and helped the now complaint woman to her feet. As she rested against the table that had previous impeded their movements, he noticed that her whole body shook. Whether or not it was from shock or exerting too much energy so soon after her long term imprisonment, he wasn't sure. He glanced over to the others who began to gather seeing Dr. Cottle approaching. He looked down at the woman in her light blue gown. Once again, he raised his hand to his chest. “I’m Lee Adama. Lee.”

She looked up at the sound of his voice. Noticing his actions she realized what it was he was trying to say. Mimicking him, she raised her own hand and pointed slightly to herself.

“Alexis Richards…Alexis.” She whispered before her eyes rolled and darkness encompassed her vision.

Lee made a grab for the woman as her knees buckled underneath her.
