FLASHBACK
*Becca was floating it was dark and peaceful then images started coming to her. She was in her apartment with Kyle and they were screaming at each other.

“What the hell did you expect me to say!’ she spat at him, “You’ve just told me you don’t love me anymore, that we are going in different directions, and that you have f-ing met someone else!” She kept going, she was gaining momentum, “AND you think that we can still be friends because you haven’t gotten physical with her YET!”

He took a step back because in the year that he had known her he had never seen her this mad, and it was really making him nervous. “I never meant to hurt you Becca,” he said lamely.

Now she couldn’t hold back the tears any longer. “Get the hell out of my house!” she sobbed and pushed him to drive the message home.

He backed out of the door and she slammed it in his face before crumpling to the floor. She had buried herself in school and work for so long, been so driven that he had quite simply been her ‘first’ everything. She made herself stand up and go to the phone then dialed the only person she could think of. It was practically the middle of the night but she could not be alone. “Hello” a sleepy voice mumbled on the other end. “Sam,” she sobbed.

Sam sat up instantly awake, “Becca sweetie what wrong?”

“H, h, he broke up with me,” she managed to get out.

“I’m on my way honey,” Sam assured her.

Jack groaned and rolled over, “What’s going on?” he said groggily.

“Kyle just broke up with Becca.”

Now it was Jack’s turn to sit up. He saw Becca like a daughter and reacted as such, “That skinny, no good, he is not good enough to breathe the same air as that child!”

“You’re right of course, but she is not going to be ready to hear that yet.” Sam said changing into jeans and a sweatshirt. “I’ll calm her down,” she promised leaning down to kiss him goodbye.

Sam let herself in with the key Becca had given her. She found Becca sobbing on the couch, wrapped in a throw blanket and sat beside her. “Come here girly,” she ordered.

Becca scooted over and put her head on Sam’s shoulder. “Tell Colonel O’Neill I’m sorry I woke him up,” she sniffed. Becca was one of the few privy to their relationship.

“He’s livid,” she said, “with Kyle,” she added, seeing Becca’s horrified expression.

They sat there for a while giving Becca time to calm down a bit, then Sam stood, and went into the kitchen to make tea. Becca stood and followed still wrapped in the blanket for security.

“The first few days are going to be rough Bec, but day by day it will get easier I promise. Whatever you are feeling, just go with it, if you need to take it out on the heavy bag I’ll spot you.”

They were on their second cups and laughing about Kyle’s many shortcomings when their beepers went off closely followed by Becca’s phone.

“How’re you holding up?” Jack said on the other end.

“I’ve been better,” she replied.

“I’m sorry to do this to you Becca but something has come up and we are going to need you to go off-world. Head down here with Sam, General Hammond will brief us when you get here.”

Becca turned to Sam, “That was your man, looks like we have a mission. I’ll go change.” She changed into khakis and a shrunken polo shirt, and then washed the tear stains off her glasses. She didn’t bother to cover up her puffy eyes with make-up.

When they walked into the briefing room Daniel immediately, notice that Becca had recently been crying and for some reason he felt a small pain in his chest. He knew he was starting to have feelings for the young archaeologist, but he could not yet explain them. General Hammond briefed them on the mission, it seemed straight forward, and the familiarity of the prep routine was a good distraction for Becca. They gathered in the gate room and headed up the ramp through the Stargate. *
