Chapter 7
Jeri was sitting in the lobby shaking her head. She didn't understand what had come over her. She had sex with someone she only knew through GREG of all people! She ran her hands through her hair nervously, not knowing what to do. She looked over and saw Warrick in the break room grinning like a mad man and looking at the back of Greg's head and she felt a terrible foreboding. She watched as Rick sat down and started chatting with Greg. Greg was listening until a certain point. Then, all Hell broke lose
“YOU FUCKING DID WHAT,” Greg screamed, jumping to his feet, his chair sliding across the room. He was physically shaking in anger, and Jeri knew this couldn't be good. As she got up and strode to the break room, she saw Nick and Grissom come running to the break room reaching it before her.
“Hey what's your problem Greg? She's not your girlfriend or anything is she,” Warrick asked, confused.
“Not fucking yet! But I had hope,” Greg was starring furiously at his friend, torn between trying to beat the hell out of the larger man and crying.
Warrick looked almost as shocked as Jeri did, having heard that. Jeri walked over to Greg and looked at him, shaking herself at his admission.
“You wanted to be my boyfriend,” she asked in a tiny voice, looking at him with awe.
“Yea but now, I'm not so sure. Why did you and him...,” Greg asked trailing off.
“I don't really know,”Jeri sighed, sitting in one of the break room chairs, looking at the table. She knew what she did was not the wisest thing in the world, but mistakes happen. She just hoped Greg would understand. Greg starred at her, anger evident in his eyes, for what seemed an eternity to her, until she looked up and met his gaze. Time seemed to freeze. After a minute, Greg just sighed and walked over to Jeri kneeling in front of her.
“Jeri, I love you but right now, I'm kinda mad. I think it's best you not stay over or come to my house anymore, until things between us are better again,” Greg voiced sadly, looking into her sapphire eyes. Jeri on nodded, tears starting to trickle down her face.
“I'll watch over her,” Nick piped up, knowing that Jeri was under protective watch due to Mark.
Jeri smiled at Nick's kindness. He was as sweet and loyal as Greg said. Greg was very lucky to have friends like these.
“I'm going to go walking for a bit,” Jeri said, jumping up and running out of the room before anyone could stop her. She ran until she found the stairs to the roof and flung the door open, hopping up the stairs two at a time until she reached the roof, the cool nighttime Las Vegas air hitting her tear stained face. Walking to the edge of the roof she knelt down looking over, leaning her elbows on the brick partition that kept people from jumping. She took something small, shiney, and silver out of her purse. It was a sterling silver Rosary. It gave her peace when she prayed, even though she wasn't Catholic. She figured hey, everyone needs something. Thats how she was found by Nick an hour later, she was starting into the sky, crying.
“Hey you gunna be alright,” Nick asked softly.
“Yea, I just really really love him,” Jeri sighed sadly.
“I know. If you want, I'll go down and talk to him before he leaves to go home,” Nick offered, starting to feel like this girl was like a little sister to him.
Jeri only nodded and slipped on her head phones from her back. He had noticed them earlier but only now did he realize she had brought some cds with her. He peered in and smiled at her collection before turning and going to find Greg.
