Chapter 7
Grissom dropped his bag on his chair and tossed his keys onto the breakfast island. It had been a long day for him with the conference, dinner with Caine and Taylor, his shopping side trip, and the late flight back to Las Vegas. He knew Sara wasn’t expecting him back until the following evening, but he couldn’t wait to see her. He knew she was at work, so he sent her a text message telling her he was home and would see her after her shift. Then he sat on his bed and fell into an exhausted sleep.
Sara was in the trace lab with Catherine getting their results from Hodges when her pager went off. The message brought out her trademark million-dollar smile.
“Home early. Breakfast? See you after shift. Your place.”
Catherine looked up from the results and saw Sara’s face light up. “Oh he’s back early.” Sara looked up with a quizzical look. “How did you know?”
Hodges scoffed. “Oh please. You’ve been walking around here all week like a lost soul. Besides that’s the smile that only comes out for Grissom.” Catherine looked at him shocked and he felt the need to defend himself. “What? You think that investigators are the only ones who notice things?”
Conrad Ecklie was walking by the trace lab when he heard the name. “Someone mention Grissom? Don’t tell me we need him in on another case.” Catherine turned to the door. “No we don’t need Grissom on a case. He just paged Sara and let her know he was back in town.” Ecklie looked relieved. “Good. I just got the new county fee schedule for consultants and if we have to bring him in too often, our budget will be toast.”
Sara glared at him as he walked away. Hodges caught it and grinned. “Don’t let him get to you. He’s always been a jerk and always will be. He’s not as big of a jerk as he used to be, but he’s still a jerk.” Catherine was astonished. “And I thought you guys were tight.” Hodges shrugged. “Not really. He was just easier to get along with than Grissom was. Not that Grissom is a bad guy or anything, but he wasn’t as receptive to my style as Ecklie.”
“You mean he didn’t like you kissing his ass.”
“Exactly. Hey I came here from LA County where ass kissing was the only way to get anywhere. Then I get tossed in here with Grissom and find out the hard way that in his eyes, kissing ass is a character flaw. It took some getting used to being able to get credit for doing my job well.”
Catherine smiled. “And you do a great job. And I’m glad you cut down on the ass kissing. It was pretty irritating. Sara our case is pretty much at a stand still until O’Reily can pick up our suspects. Why don’t you go ahead and knock off early.”
“You’re not serious?”
“Why not? You’ve put in more than a shift already with as early as you got here. And since you know he’s home I know you just want to get over there.”
“For him to be home already he had to have gone straight from the conference to the airport. So he’s probably sleeping anyway. But thanks for the offer.”
Sara walked down to the break room and poured some coffee. Nick and Warrick were already there having lunch. Catherine came in shortly after and leaned on the door jam. “Sara, now I tried being a friend in trace. Now I have to be big bad boss bitch. You’re nearly maxed on overtime this month and, depending on what the interrogations come up with, I’m going to need you. So knock off early. Go home or whatever. Just get off the clock. And tell Griss we said hi.”
Sara smiled and threw her cup in the trash. “Well since you put that way, I guess I can head out. You do realize I’m off the next two days, right? I mean if O’Reily picks up our suspects you are going to call me.”
Catherine shook her head. “I can’t believe you. Grissom’s back after a week away, you’re off the next two nights, and you’re worried about sitting in on an interrogation?” Sara saw Nick and Warrick looking at her in disbelief and shook her head in defeat. “You’re right. You guys can handle it. This trying not to live exclusively for work is taking some getting used to. I’ll see you guys in a couple of days then.” She walked out of the break room and headed home. Grissom would be at her place in four hours, which gave her plenty of time to put her plan in motion. He was in for a surprise.
Grissom turned off his alarm and headed for the shower. He knew Sara would be home shortly and he couldn’t wait to see her. He had always known he wouldn’t be able to resist her if he kissed her, but he had no idea it would be this bad. He needed her like he needed to breathe. Suddenly his shopping excursion in Chicago didn’t seem so impulsive after all.
An hour later Grissom had picked up fresh bagels, jam, and cream cheese and was knocking on Sara’s door. Suddenly the door was flung open, he was forcefully pulled inside and slammed into the wall. The grocery bag dropped from his hand as Sara crushed her mouth into his and had her fingers in his hair. He pulled her against him and she wrapped her leg around his trying to get closer. When they finally broke for air she gave him a wicked smile. “Welcome back.”
They talked over breakfast about their week and what they did. Although Grissom had been opening up a lot more since the shooting, Sara was still surprised when he admitted just how much he missed her. When she led him to the bedroom, Grissom assumed they were to continue her therapy. He was wrong. As soon as he was inside the room her hands were on him, caressing his shoulders and removing his shirt. He stopped her as he reached for his belt and looked into her deep brown eyes. “Sara.” She brought her fingers to his lips to silence him. “Griss it’s alright. Let me do this. You’ve been so patient with me and so giving.”
“Honey, I don’t want to hurt you.”
“You won’t.”
He let her pamper him much the way he had pampered her on their first night together. She massaged his neck, shoulders, back, and legs. Then she rolled him over to start on his chest. Grissom watched her eyes as she massaged down his chest, the love in her eyes filling his heart until he thought it would burst. He fought against his arousal, but the sight of her above him was too much to overcome.
Sara eased her way down his body removing the last barrier between her and his manhood, her eyes growing wide as she saw him for the first time. He reached for her and began to pull her up, but she would not be denied and leaned down, swallowing as much of his length has she could manage. She set on a steady pace with her lips, tongue and hands bringing him to the edge. Grissom looked down to stop her and was greeted by the erotic sight of his swollen flesh disappearing between Sara’s lips. She smiled around him as he groaned and found his release.
He lay gasping for breath as she moved up beside him. He turned and buried his fingers into her hair, pulling her into an intense kiss. When he pulled back and looked at her, he was overwhelmed with the passion he saw in her eyes. “You are so beautiful. And you are entirely too good at that.” She laughed and snuggled into his chest. “Well considering my problem, I kind of had to be.”
Grissom kissed her head and held her. “No you didn’t, and any man who made you think otherwise was an ass. You didn’t have to do this you know.” She squeezed him tight before she looked up and propped her head on her hand. “I know. But I wanted to.”
“So you’ve got the next two days off.”
“Yeah. And unless it’s something big in the case, I don’t look for Catherine to call me in either. She made it a point to get me out of there since we don’t know what our suspects are going to say in questioning, and I’m almost maxed out on OT. From the evidence, I don’t see there being any surprises in their statements, but you never know.”
“Do you have anything you would like to do while you’re off?” Grissom felt her hand moving up his thigh. “Not that Sara.” He caught her puzzled expression and sighed. “I don’t want to rush you. You’ve been doing so well with your therapy, I don’t want you to have any kind of set back.”
‘I don’t think that will happen. I really think I’m ready.”
He caressed her face with the back of his hand. “Maybe you are. But I still want to make it special for you. Now no arguments on this. You need some sleep and then we can do something.”
“Actually I already slept. Cath kicked me out of work about 10 minutes after you paged me. I came straight home and got some sleep since I figured you were doing the same.”
Grissom smiled as he got an idea. “Wonderful. So are you up to going out today?”
Never in Grissom’s wildest dreams did he think he would spend a morning walking through a park his arm around Sara, but that’s exactly what he did. Toward afternoon they stopped by Grissom’s townhouse on their way to Circus Circus and the Adventuredome. While he picked up a few things he needed for later, he noticed his computer notification that he had a message. It was from his mother. He smiled and made sure the boxes he wanted were in his jacket. His plan couldn’t be going better.
