Chess bites

Cassie DiMera sat at the table trying hard not to look to board. She didn't quite know how to get out of her "date" without making the poor boy look stupid. If he kept rambling on she was going to have one of two options.

She's been staring out the window
Four nights in a row
Like a caged up tiger

One she was going to get up and pretend to head to the bathroom. Then call for a ride back home and lay into her daddy about his idea of a good date. Two she was going to just bolt and perhaps snag the cute tan blond surfer on her way out. He looked like he knew how to have a good time.

I met the man I call my Dad
When I was five years old
He took my Mom out to a movie
And for once I got to go

Sighing mentally Cassie knew daddy had tried really hard this time. But did he have to keep finding such "safe" boys? Not that she was looking for Mr. Bad Example. Just someone who knew how to have a bit of fun . Without rambling on about chess and the importance of being able to pick black or white.

And then all of a sudden
Oh it seemed so strange to me
How we went from
Something's missing
To a family

Daddy was and would forever be Mr. Over Protective. Cassie knew that, he just wanted her to be safe. But chess was not her idea of fun. Nor was sitting in a restaurant listing to her date ramble on about it.

When you're Daddy's little girl

As the waiter was coming over with dinner, Cassie saw her chance. Careful so he wouldn't notice, she moved her leg to a empty chair near the table. Now if everything went right, she would be free and clear. Not more than five seconds later a very sorry waiter was falling over himself apologizing for what had happened.

Soon the manager himself was over begging forgiveness. He even offered their dinner and anything else they should want on the house. The rest of the restaurant looked on with a mix of horror and amusement.

Such accidents rarely happened in high end places that chattered to the rich and powerful. To witness one was most rare but highly amusing to most of the guests. As long as it had not happened to them of course. Still it had livened up the night and made things much more fun.

To see a stuffy over dressed world class chess player. Hit with both white and red sauces and a bottle of wine. Was something that one didn't see very offend. Still more interesting one didn't see such a refined looking young lady laugh so hard. At something so embarrassing when it had been at her own table.
