Chapter 7: Epilogue
"Jason Marcus Grissom you put that toad down!" 4 year old Jason dropped the toad he'd spent the better part of 5 minutes attempting to catch. He turned towards his mom with a pout on his face. Sara couldn't help but smile at her son. His bright blue eyes were open wide and his dark brown hair was starting to curl from the Nevada heat. Poor kids are all doomed to have curly hair between my hair and Gils. She knelt down in front of him, not an easy feat with her 8 month pregnant belly protruding in front of her.
"Where's your sister?" Sara asked quietly. Jason was quiet. Too quiet. Sara sighed. "Jason? Tell me where your sister is."
"Not supposed to." He responded, crossing his arms and adapting a stubborn _expression he copied straight from his father. Sara smirked, fishing a sucker out of her pocket and holding it out to him. He squealed and took the sucker. Amazing how a simple sucker could make a kid talk like a magpie.
"Jamie went with daddy to buy flowers for mommy!" As if on cue, Grissom's car pulled into the driveway and a very excited Jamie flew out of the SUV the moment she was unhooked. Jamie was Jason's twin sister. She too had dark curly locks and beautiful blue eyes. Gil was always telling Sara she had the most beautiful eyes, but Sara secretly hoped all their children's eyes were Gil's deep blue. Sara winced and staggered to her feet while Jamie and Jason ran around in the yard. Grissom dodged the running children and planted a kiss on Sara's forehead once he reached her. She smirked at him. He raised an eyebrow in response.
"What?" He asked.
"Your son spilled the beans." Gil's face lit up with mock fury as he rounded on Jason.
"Jason!" Jason screamed and ran as fast as his short little legs would carry him. It didn't take more than 3 steps for Gil to catch him and flip the squirming child over his shoulder.
"She bought you off with a sucker didn't she?" Jason giggled and shook his head wildly, his entire body shaking with the force of his denial.
"No!" Grissom laughed and set Jason back down on the ground. He knelt down in front of him and poked his tiny nose.
"Next time I'll give you TWO suckers if you manage to keep those lips closed until I get home!"
"OK!" Jason giggled and ran off to join his sister who was jumping happily through the sprinkler. Grissom shook his head at the sight of his two fully clothed children becoming soaked. Turning back towards Sara, he moved behind her and wrapped his arms around her pregnant belly. He placed a quick kiss to the nape of her neck. She smiled at him over her shoulder.
"It's the twin's birthday today not mine. You didn't have to buy me any flowers." Grissom chuckled.
"4 years ago you spent 22 hours delivering those little barbarians... you deserve a mountain of flowers!" She laughed and kissed him on the cheek.
"When is everyone coming over for the party?" She asked. Grissom checked his watch.
"In about an hour. Guess I'd better finish setting out all the food." She waited for him to pull away from her and do just that, but he continued to hold on to her protectively. He sighed.
"Gil? Something wrong?" She felt him shake his head no.
"I was just thinking about how lucky I am." He tightened his arms around her a bit. "I've got the most beautiful wife any man could ask for, two beautiful if not slightly demonic children, and another son or daughter on the way." He sighed again. Sara turned around in his arms, kissing him soundly on the lips.
"I'm glad you took Sofia to dinner." She whispered. Grissom made a choking noise.
"What?!" He choked out. Sara smiled wide.
"If you hadn't I wouldn't have ripped you a new one and you never would have grown the balls to finally be with me." He chucked in response.
"Indirectly, I suppose you might be right." He was thoughtful for a moment. "I shall have to thank her some time."
"Let's not get carried away." Sara responded quickly. Gil laughed, kissing his wife again under the bright Nevada sun.
"I love you Sara Grissom."
"And I love you Gil Grissom. I always have, and I always will."
