Chapter 7
Gil was sitting listening to the quiet piano. He turned as she pulled a chair from the table. “Fancy meeting you here again.”
He kissed Heather’s hand. “Buying more supplies?”
“Actually I am meeting someone. All work and no play makes a dominatrix dull.”
He smiled pleasantly.
Rosalyn slipped behind Gil’s shoulder and handed him a piece of paper. He took out the silver pen Sara had given him several Christmases ago. “Thank you Rosalyn.” He signed and handed the slip of paper back to her. “Also we would like Bernard again.”
“Certainly Mr. Grissom. Chef asked if Mrs. Grissom eats fish.”
Gill nodded. “She does. What does he suggest?””
“The excellent Alaskan sea bass.”
“That sounds good. I will still take the roasted chicken. Have Bernard pick an appropriate wine.”
“Rosalyn wants to know if she has in that black piece in a size six. She could have it sent up after dinner?”
Gil thought for a moment and shook his head. “No have it sent to my home.”
Rosalyn moved her gaze to Heather. “Lady Heather, Mr. Markum called. His plane just got in. He is on his way from the airport. Maria is preparing your room.”
“Thank you Rosalyn.”
Her dark eyes looked at him appreciatively. “What I would not give for a man like you?”
“That’s very nice of you Heather, but I am sure you have no shortage of admirers.”
“You are the triple threat Gil, smart, handsome and very experimental.”
“You mean kinky.”
She shrugged as she bit into the olive from the martini. “You don’t hide who you are. I like that. So many people come to places like this, places like mine and they hide false names and false personas.”
“I don’t ever plan on running for office. I can barely deal with interoffice politics.”
A server sat a glass of bourbon to the right of Grissom. He looked at his watch. It was only 8:45. He tried to quiet his nerves.
“Where’s Sara?”
“I believe she’s on a date.” The ice rattled a bit in his glass.
The server took away her martini glass and replaced it with another. “That’s okay with you?”
He drank the last of the dark liquor. He signaled to the waiter for another. He did not want to talk about this. “We aren’t in a committed relationship. She can see whomever she wants.”
Heather did not say anything as she moved the liquid around in her Martini glass with her olive. She sucked in her cheeks and let them go. “Why aren’t you in a committed relationship?”
“Why?”
“Yes, Gilbert, why. You care a great deal for this woman. I haven’t seen you two together but I suspect you love her. You trust her more than anyone else. “
“I trust people.”
“Brass, Catherine and Warrick don’t make up for a large group especially when aren’t having sex with any of them.”
He laughed. Leave it to Heather to get to the heart of matter. “I trust you.”
“Not enough to do the things you do with Sara.”
He nodded slightly. “Indeed.”
“So I ask again why.”
“I am not cut out for domestic bliss. You know that Heather.”
“I know no such thing. I think most people are cut out for long term coupling. The problem is that they usually set up house with the wrong person. Your Sara is smart, strong, as you say kinky and probably gorgeous to boot.”
He started to speak until he heard Roslyn in his ear. He turned back to Heather. “Speaking of gorgeous she’s pulling up outside. I think Rosalyn is trying to save my hide. He kissed Heather’s hand.
“As always Heather it’s a pleasure.”
“Gil if it doesn’t matter what either one of you do, why are so afraid to let Sara see you talking to me?”
He smiled a bit as he shook his head.
