Wayward Journey
Chapter Six
The ride, for awhile, was quiet. The tension that was there last night was slightly more relaxed this time though. After awhile of staring out the window, Naomi looked over in Daryl's direction. She couldn't help but feel the need to apologize for her attack. "I'm sorry I jumped you." She admitted quietly, playing with her fingers. "You scared me and it was impulse."
Daryl looked at her for a moment, his eyes staring into her briefly before looking back at the road. His gaze softened, even if only a little, before allowing his shoulders to barely rise in a small shrug. "I probably would'a done the same." He admitted after keeping silent for awhile.
Naomi nodded, more so to herself than for him. She leaned her head back on the seat and gazed out the window before turning her attention to the man next to her. He had messy brown hair and scruffle growing across his chin and upper lip; his eyes were a shade of cornflower blue, very similar to the color in her right eye. His prominent jaw line and lips were both attractive features as well, she admired his physical appearance quietly. He was quite handsome, though it was obvious that he was clueless to that fact.
He looked over to see her blatantly staring at him. Instantly his eyebrows furrowed into a familiar scowl and he glanced back at the road to make sure he wasn't near hitting anyone in front of him. "The fuck you lookin' at?" His tone was sharp, nastier sounding than he intended but he didn't dare apologize for it.
Just before Naomi was about to explain herself, she noticed the cars before them slowing to a stop. Daryl noticed this too and slowed down until they were halted just behind the RV. Daryl now stared at her expectantly, but Naomi flung open the truck door and mumbled a short response before going to see why everyone had stopped. "Nothing."
Daryl grunted at her response, getting out and closing the door before going after her to press the matter further. He was stopped in his tracks when Shane made his way to standing next to Naomi instead, and everyone watched as Jim was left in front of the tree. Shane stood closer to Naomi than she would have liked, and Daryl glared daggers into the back of his head for that.
"This is depressing." Naomi mumbled softly, wrapping her arms around her torso loosely. Shane looked down at her with the same gaze, hungry and predator like. Chills ran down Naomi's spine and she wanted to shrink under his gaze, but she stayed standing with good posture and gave off a fairly annoyed expression. "Can you stop looking at me like that? It's weird."
Shane furrowed his eyebrows and Lori looked over in their direction curiously. Daryl's eyebrows were raised, he never thought Naomi would be the type to call someone on their shit. She seemed too quiet and well mannered. "Like what?" Shane's voice broke his train of thought, and his eyes fell onto Naomi.
"Like you're undressing me with your eyes. You should be focusing on survival not getting your dick wet." Her voice came out abruptly, Lori snorted and pressed her hand over her mouth to avoid letting out too loud of a laugh while Daryl's eyebrows rose in surprise. That was one way to handle it. Shane's eyes narrowed into a glare and just as he was about to speak up, Naomi turned her back to him and walked past Daryl to go over towards Lori and Carl.
Daryl resisted the urge to show the impressed expression that wanted to cover his face, he only smirked briefly and spit onto the ground while keeping his arms crossed over his chest. Naomi pushed her fingers through Carl's hair slowly as Lori praised her on her words to Shane, who was now sitting in his car fuming in his own anger. "It's just weird, he looks at us both like he's about to ravage us and it's gross." Her nose crinkled as she moved her fingers out of Carl's hair carefully.
Lori nodded her head in agreement as Carl looked up at the both of them, his gaze resting on Naomi's face now that he could see her in daylight rather than by the light of a fire. She wasn't much taller than him, she had high cheekbones and full lips with a pale complexion. Her eyelashes were thick and long, and her eyes caused a curiosity to spark. "Why are your eyes like that?" The slap he earned to the back of his head from his mother caused his face to scrunch up.
Naomi let off a laugh before shaking her head a bit. "I was born with this condition called Heterochromia Iridum. It's a big fancy word meaning two different colored irises." Carl nodded his head, as if he understood, and Naomi watched as people began getting back into their vehicles. She nodded to the two of them before turning around and walking past Daryl to climb into the truck, he followed after her and did the same.
Daryl started the truck once again, looking at Naomi with a fairly entertained expression. "Getting his dick wet, huh?" The laugh that erupted from Naomi was a beautiful sound, if it weren't for the heat beating down on them he swore chills would have covered his skin.
"Yeah, probably should have worded that better." She admitted, shaking her head and pushing stray hairs out of her face. "It's true though! He's piggish..I barely even know him and I can tell." Daryl looked at her briefly, eyes staying on hers as she spoke before nodding his head, looking towards the road and following after the RV once everyone began moving forward again.
