Nothing about the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, any of them is mine. They all belong to Saban and Disney. And I am making no money what-so-ever from this work of fanfiction.
Chapter 6
True to his word, Justin showed up the next morning, and brought pancakes and syrup, as well as eggs and bacon, and Billy sighed as he wiped his mouth on a napkin.
“That was really good,” He said. “I’d forgotten how good food that hasn’t been recycled, freeze-dried, or powdered actually was,” he said, and Justin looked around the obviously up and running command Center/Power Chamber.
“I’m not going to ask about the ‘recycled’ part,” Justin wrinkled his nose, and stood. “But thanks for the compliment. I made it myself. And I’m telling you, you’ve really done a good job with this place,” Justin ran his hands over the control panels and smiled. “Did you work on this place all night?”
“Not me, no,” Billy shook his head, as he stood and adjusted the cape around him. “there is an . . . entity . . . personality . . . embedded into this place that I programmed a long while ago, and he . . .it . . .took over and started the auto-repair system.”
“Man, we really could have used some of this knowledge,” Justin said, and Billy smiled sadly.
“When I left, it wasn’t supposed to be for longer than a few months, a year at the most.”
“But you fell in love. We already know that,” Justin blinked, as Billy’s smile was once more infinitely sad, and Justin really wondered if that were all to the story.
“Something like that,” Billy said, as he opened a hole in the floor and disposed of the breakfast remains.
“But what will you do now?” Justin frowned at him. “I mean, I was thinking last night, and I know you said not to tell anyone you were here, and that you weren’t ready to face anyone yet, but well, I know it’s none of my business, but I’m not really sure it’s fair of you to show up and not let the others know you’re back. I mean, even if you didn‘t tell them where you were, you could at least tell them you‘re okay.”
“I realize that,” Billy nodded, and walked to a control panel, and leaned heavily on it. “I meditated on that last night as I rested. I do have to tell them, I know this. But, I have a few things I still have to do here, and then I have to check on my Dad . . .”
“He’s in Florida,” Justin said, and blushed as Billie frowned at him. “Um . . . I kind of looked him up on the internet last night. You know, just to see if I could help. He‘s working with NASA as head scientist on some one of their projects. Apparently he had an invention that someone finally took seriously.”
“Good. Good for him. I’m glad he’s moved on,” Billy sighed and suddenly pressed his hand to his abdomen. He grimaced and forced himself to breathe through his nose, obviously in pain.
“Are you alright?” Justin asked worriedly as he started to move forward, but Billy held up his hand and Justin stopped.
“For the moment,” he answered cryptically, his expression wistful and sad.
Justin frowned. “Look, I know I’m young, not much older than when you were an actual Power Ranger, but I was a Power Ranger. The only reason I wasn’t in on the final battle was because I was only 12 and needed to finish growing up, and my Dad needed me. Although, let me tell you, I did my share of damage when Angel Grove was attacked. I’ll also have you know that I’m also extremely smart, and while maybe not on the same level as you, I attended angel grove High School at the age of 12.”
“I would have done that too,” Billie said. “But my dad wanted me to have a normal life. However, I grew up surrounded by the people who would eventually become the Power Rangers. As it was, I was literally forced to graduate two years before them,” Billie smiled. “You were thrown into the middle of them, so, actually, it was better that you were placed in school with them.”
“You’re not going to distract me,“ Justin frowned. “The thing is, I’m used to handling trouble. And you are obviously in some kind of trouble. If you weren’t, you’d’ve let me call the others right away, without waiting to rebuild this place. So, tell me, what kind of trouble are you in, and why won’t you let me help you?”
