Chapter 6

Chp 6.
The darkness no longer held any comfort for her anymore. She’d been staring at the same spot on the wall for more than she thought was humanly possible. The moon snuck into the room in slivers in-between and at the sides of the curtains. She felt incredibly weak and hated it, she was in all circumstances still a man inside, a man called Milo who was once more than any man or woman could ever be. He frowned and sat up, he’d never said he’d stay, it wasn’t him who had killed people so why should he be the one to suffer. If he could just find a way to remove himself from this body then he could live his life here as himself.

He cringed as the floorboards creaked, scolding himself for not being careful. Yes he wanted to rebel but he didn’t want Wendy and Henry to hear him. He picked up his bag and breathed in his panic and suppressed it. Those two policemen may come after him but he would somehow get away from them. Carefully he opened the door and walked down the hallway, his heart fluttering with the feeling of freedom as he saw the stair well. With cautiousness that he surprised himself with he managed to make it down the stairs without making them creak and out into the bar area before he felt another presence. He became Faye once again.

“H-Henry?..” Her voice became meek, looking to the side and noticing the glow of a pipe,

“Faye...” he replied, standing up from his seat at the bar and walking over to her. She looked up at him and back down to notice a gun in his hand – she gulped.

“This ain’t meant for you miss, its for that man who’s seemed to have taken a likin’ to you” He propped the gun up against the bar, “Mr Blue Eyes” he muttered and looked to Faye,

“I don’t know you from Eve, but I do know that whatever you’ve got to do I dont want my Wendy or myself involved” His voice was calm and it somewhat cooled Faye’s panic, she nodded,

“I know” she gripped the strap of her satchel bag,

“I said you wouldn’t go, that I wouldn’t let you out of my sight” He sighed,

“I know” She bit her lip,

“But...” Faye looked up to him, “I know that you ain’t what you appear to be... “ He paused and sucked his pipe, “When I found that man holding you I saw more than just his hands where they shouldn’t a been” Faye blinked, her eyes wide and after her initial blush of that memory suddenly she felt somewhat relieved,

“I don’t know where you came from, but I know that those eyes of yours arn’t your own” he looked her up and down, “much less the rest o’ that body” he shifted his weight and leant on the bar,

“and I don’t much believe that those ‘police officers’ that came here are just here to talk to you ‘bout those killin’s” He sighed again, looking to the stairs, “my honest belief is that you just ended up in this mess an’ you don’t know where to go” Faye smiled at the large man, feeling that at last she was understood,

“I’m not letting you go, but I’m not stopping you from going either. I told my daughter when she left that she had to make her own decision once she left those doors, I’m giving you the same choice”

“Wendy knows?” Faye asked, worried about the lady who had offered her shelter in the first place, Henry shook his head,

“No, she would tell them just by the expression on her face if she had agreed to this” Henry stepped to the side, giving Faye ample space to walk past him, “Now, its your decision” Faye frowned, looking at the door to the car park and then back to Henry,

“I have to go...” She replied, Henry closed his eyes and nodded. Faye breathed in and walked past him, taking hold of the door handle,

“Faye?...” Henry looked to the girl, She smiled,

“my name is Milo” he replied,

“Well then Milo, I wish you all the best” Henry leant his back against the bar and watched the girl disappear, the door shutting with a gentle click. He sighed and went back upstairs.

The air was chilly as he stepped outside; even the insects were quiet trying to preserve body heat. The fact that somebody finally knew his real name made him feel exhilarated. He saw the Jaguar just as he passed a lorry, the car shaded by its shadow. Delving his hand into the bag for the car keys when he suddenly felt like someone was watching him. He tensed, the feeling of shrinking came back to him again and Milo had disappeared. Faye felt her spine tingle and breathe land on her neck, she gasped and turned around to be faced with those familiar blue eyes,

“Hello” the voice was deep and he no longer hid his true form, the man was huge. Faye was about to scream before a large hand was wrapped around her neck and she was thrown against the side of the lorry. The wind was knocked out of her and all she could to was gawp wide eyed at the daemon holding her.

“That landlord has been rather a nuisance” His voice grated, “I’ve missed being this close to you” He laughed deeply mocking an affectionate caress of the cheek before slamming Faye’s head against the heavy metal, she felt blood seep down her face, “I’ am surprised you actually ventured out, I have been watching you make no mistake. Those brothers were a surprise to - I truly didn’t think they would have tracked you down. Since that is the case I can no longer play...” in her concussed state the words didn’t register, only forming deep noises.

“But first we must remove this mortal shell, the soul which once resided has long ago faded and this body is all but useless. The flesh underneath is what I desire” He laughed, his hot breath stinging Faye’s face. In her blurred vision she saw his left hand begin to glow red and she squirmed under his hold doing little to help her position. With little warning she suddenly felt that hand at her stomach press in and finally grab her skin like it was merely fabric.

Pain flared, her skin felt like it was on fire, nerves were breaking and skin was being ripped away from muscle in an agonizing slowness that left her able to feel every snapped cord. Blood seeped from every part of her body, vessels burst in succession her entire body seemed to be swimming in it – all the time the daemon laughed in a sadistic tone. She felt something snap inside her - she screamed.

Dean just about fell off his chair from the sound that howled from the parking lot, sleep had finally won although he hadn’t realised it until now. He shot up quickly, and ran for the door already noticing his brother wide awake and searching for his book,

“Sam come on!” He yelled, out the door before his brother, releasing his gun from safety, ready to fire into whatever god forsaken creature came at him. Sam raced after him, his mind racing through his research trying to work out what creature would make that noise.

Dean made it into the parking lot and to the area where the sound of the howl had come from. The smell hit him first, of burning flesh and blood and he kept himself from gagging but the sight that met him was even harder to recover from. A man of at least seven feet held the form of a woman, what was left of a woman, the skin was tearing from her back and legs and blood covered every inch of the form and pooled in vicious amounts beneath her. Sounds of strangled screams still escaped her throat.

“what the?...” Dean muttered to himself, stunned at what he saw. The man noticed the new presence and smirked at the boy’s expression,

“ah a captive audience” He mocked and looked to the body he held “you will not die alone Faye” he whispered but clear enough for Dean to hear. With the name in his head he snapped out of his shock,

“What!? Sam!” just as Sam came to the scene there was a sickening pop and the skin released from the body, a final scream wrenching itself from the bloody mess the daemon now held in his hand. The daemon smirked before throwing the mass of skin at Sam and Dean,

“Shit!” Dean pushed his brother out of the way and dodged himself, his left side getting sprayed with blood. Quickly he aimed at the daemons head and shot. The daemon wailed from the bullet and threw the body to the floor, growling and launching itself at Dean. Its anger faded its judgement and Dean shot at its shoulder, hitting perfectly between the collar bone - the daemon recoiled and disappeared into the shadows.

The brothers stayed still, Sam lying on the floor leaning on his elbows staring at the mass of skin only a few feet from him. Dean still held his gun out in front of him, his left side now becoming sticky from drying blood, he looked to his brother who had paled,

“S-Sam?” no response, “Sam!” his brother snapped his attention to Dean, “You ok?” he laughed inwardly, stupid question. He walked over to his brother somewhat shaky himself, hiding it well, and helped his brother up,
“Apart from being incredibly grossed out yes I’m fine” Sam took his brothers hand and stood up, realising the hand he had been offered he wiped the blood off on his jeans, “what the hell just happened?” he ran a hand through his hair,

“Was hoping you could tell me that... whatever it was I think I pissed it off” Dean looked about the parking lot checking that no more were hiding in the shadows, he was amazed that nobody else had heard the screams, if they had heard it then they mustn’t have been the only ones.

“The daemon said Faye’s name that was that girl we’ve been hunting” he looked to the body then back to Sam who paled again at the mention of the girl that was now in two pieces,

“We... we can’t just leave it here...” he bit his lip, he was used to dead bodies but this one was a little fresher than what he had come into contact with. The brothers just looked at each other not quite sure what to do , how did they carry on this investigation, the killer had been... well killed and they had no idea what the daemon had to do with it. Would the daemon come back since Dean had royally pissed it off?... most likely, all things evil had a penchant for revenge, they’d have to keep their wits about them for while. The silence between them was suddenly broken by a gargled groan that came from the direction of the body, Sam and Dean stared at each other in disturbed realisation that the ‘thing’ was not dead yet.

Daring to look they noticed the body on the floor was writing and twitching, the noise of clicking bones bounced off the metallic shells in the car park. The brothers could merely stare as the body began to structure itself again, new skin forming over red raw muscle and nerves. Hair also began to grow on the scalp stopping just as shoulder length. The fingers of the body grasped at the dirt underneath as its back arched, the spine audibly clicking. The body stretched and writhed once more before a groan brought silence once again.

Dean gulped, staring at the body a somewhat 8 feet away from them on the floor and what had just taken place. He looked to Sam who was as speechless as he was, this wasn’t like a shape shifter. Dean breathed in, regretting it instantly because of the blood, and edged cautiously to the body.

“Dean...” Sam watched his brother, ready with a gun of his own in case whatever had happened intended to attack Dean. Dean saw that the body had definitely changed and had taken on a masculine bone structure. It was still covered with a disgusting amount of blood and the hair was caked in it but although just a few minutes ago it had been ripped apart the body seemed to be breathing!

Milo was inside himself, numb to everything, he had never felt such pain. Had he died, was this death? To be trapped inside a decaying body for eternity... no... he heard voices, two bangs and something screaming out in pain, then silence. But then pain came again and he couldn’t take it, his bones were breaking and realigning themselves, it seemed to go on forever... and he suddenly felt warm again like a blanket was being wrapped around him. Voices again, please don’t come near me, footsteps near to him. OH GOD don’t hurt me again please!

Dean knelt down cautiously by the body, staring at the face and ignoring its nakedness... although he had to admit it was far from unpleasant to look at... minus the blood. The facial features could have almost been considered androgynous, but there was still the masculinity there that made it look distinguished although the blood hid much of the detail. Sam came slightly closer, now that his brother had gotten this close to it without it attacking he felt a little calmer, but something could still happen. The chest had stopped its rise and fall and Dean frowned, he checked for a pulse when the body jumped and two eyes opened, staring at the two brothers,

“Fuck!” Dean leapt back, falling on his backside none to elegantly, Sam jumped into action at his brother’s reaction and aimed the gun at the blood covered body. Immediately the brothers saw fear in the creature’s eyes and it shuffled back. Sam relaxed and lowered his gun watching Dean reposition himself on his haunches, he couldn’t help looking a tad foolish. The thing just stared, curious or to weak to run away - Dean bit his lip unsure what to do, would the thing run away if he moved towards it? He saw the creature almost copy his action and switch its vision from Dean then onto Sam,

“Your... t-those policemen?” The creature questioned and coughed shortly after leaving more spattered blood on the floor. Dean frowned and lowered his head to look at the creature more carefully,

“Y-yes?..” he replied, slightly bemused as to who he was talking to, he looked to Sam who appeared equally confused. The creature coughed again, the blood still dripping from small closing wounds.

“Why aren’t you running?” It questioned again, “H-he’ll come back” the panic was there in the voice, but weakened by blood that was spat out with the coughing. The creature shifted, attempting to but weight onto its arms and lean up, Dean moved back a little,

“Who?” He replied, suddenly realising how stupid the question sounded, the creature twitched a little and looked at him eyes wide,

“That Daemon!” It attempted to shout as its voice broke. Sam blinked, it knew what a Daemon was, well of course, what thing wouldn’t know what a daemon was if it has just been ‘created’ by one. He bit his lip, edging forward,

“Who are you?” the creature snapped its head up in confusion, an eyebrow raised as if Sam wasn’t making sense.

“F-Faye?” It replied, almost sarcastically, the strength coming back to it. Dean and Sam blinked almost in unison at the response. This was Faye? The small girl they’d found suspect to all those murders? The creature looked older than her, only a bit, and what’s more it was a man! Dean shook his head and stared at the form in front of him, noticing the slight uncomfortable gaze the creature shot back, “Stop staring” the creature glared back,

“s-sorry!,” Dean blinked and looked to Sam, hoping for some form of reason from his younger brother. However Sam looked equally dumbfounded, he was about to speak before an emanating howl broke the uneasy atmosphere. The creature before them widened its eyes,

“He’s back...” The creature gasped,

“W-what’s back?” Sam questioned looking about; searching for the direction the howl had come from,
“G-get me out of here!” It yelled, trying to stand up like child learning to walk, it fell forward grabbing onto Deans jacket, “You’ve got to get me away from that thing!” the look of horror in its eyes burnt Dean to the core, he nodded turning his head to Sam,

“Sam we’re going” with slight hesitation Sam nodded and helped Dean to pick up the strange creature, the smell of blood was almost too much to bear as he slid an arm around his neck. The creature groaned in discomfort as the brothers lifted him up. He shook his head at their hesitation,

“Please...” the creature spoke before another howl echoed through the parking lot before all three made their way to the Impala. Dean let go of the creature, allowing Sam to place him in the back seat while he started up the engine. Sam gave one last look at the shivering form before shutting the door and sliding quickly into the passenger seat.

“Hold on!” Dean instructed the creature in the back before reversing sharply out of the parking space and speeding onto the highway, the creature in the back hung onto the upholstered seats and closed its eyes.
Dean drove at top speed for almost half an hour, telegraph poles fleeting past as merely a blur. His eyes steady on the road in front and the surrounding darkness, waiting for something to spring out at them. Sam looked behind at the curled up form, waiting for some sort of movement that didn’t come, it must have been asleep. He turned back, slumping against the passenger seat,

“What’re we going to do now?” He questioned, not really expecting an answer, “... What happened back there?”
“Hell Sam I’m as clueless as you” Dean replied, a little tense from the constant threat of something evil hitting his front bumper, “Gonna find a place to rest up... look into this some more in the morning...” Dean slowed his pace; anything that had been following them had surely lost them by now. Sam sighed,

“First need to work out who they are” He motioned towards the back seat, Dean nodded.

“It said it was Faye” Dean looked for road signs in the distance, anything that may give promise to a well populated town and possibly a hotel.

“Might have been a trick” Sam replied cynically – although he had every right to - it’s not like it hadn’t happened numerous amounts of times before.

“Maybe...” Dean mumbled, his thoughts on the current conversation dwindling as he noticed the appearance of street lights and fauna ahead. He smirked inwardly, he really needed a drink.
