Chapter 6 -- News

TWO WEEKS LATER

================

“H!” Eric fairly screamed, as he ran down the hall of the Miami-Dade crime lab, to Horatio’s office, and waved a sheaf of papers he held. “H! We’ve got a freakin’ lead on Ryan!”

"What!?” Calleigh demanded, as she dashed out of the ballistics lab and ran after Eric. “Slow down!” She shouted as the elevator door opened, and Eric promptly ran into Alexx, who fell to the ground, and dropped a manila folder she held, as Eric dropped the papers.

“Oh, man, Alexx!” Eric panted as he helped her to stand, and frantically gathered his papers together. “I’m sorry! But it’s about Ryan!”

“Eric,” the calm voice of Horatio sounded from behind the trio, and Eric spun, and once more waved the sheaf of papers. “This should probably be taken to a less . . . conspicuous location.”

“But, didn’t you hear what I said!? I said we’ve almost found Ryan!” Eric exclaimed, and H nodded.

“Yes, I did hear you, and I believe most of the rest of the building heard you as well, but the hallway is hardly the place to discuss this.”

“Ballistics, now,” Calleigh ordered, and, not wanting to argue with her, H, Eric, Alexx, and she entered the ballistics lab. Calleigh shut the door and Eric waved the papers in his hand.

“You are not going to believe this!” Eric said excitedly. “I didn’t want to bring this to you until I was sure, but I was talking to the punks who robbed that jewelry store and killed the silversmith just for being too slow to get the locks open, and I learned that they had just been released from work detail at Sully’s Manufacturing . . .”

“Wasn’t that the place that made the bullets, or at least, half the bullets, from the bank robbery?” Calleigh asked, and H nodded.

“Yes, it is,” he answered, and his back straightened. “What did we miss, Eric?”

“Nothing,” Eric assured Horatio. “But, when I was telling the perps how long they could expect to be in jail for, and what can happen to two young boys in prison, they crumbled, and started begging for leniency. I told them there wasn’t a chance in hell they’d get any kind of consideration, especially since the guy they killed was in his eighties, and suddenly, one of the punks leaned forward, and slyly asked what information regarding a missing CSI would be worth.

“I told him it depended on what kind of info he had, and he told me that during a ‘who’s-got-the-worst-criminal-record’ brag session in the breakroom at the factory, this one kid told another that while his crime was shit compared to others, he said his cousin, on the other hand, was the get-a-way driver for a trio of bank robbers, and he was there when his buddies kidnapped a cop.

“Not wanting to come to you without a name or anything, I made a few calls, and sure enough, the kid does work at Sully’s, and he does have a cousin who has been arrested several times for armed robbery.”

“I see,” H leaned forward slightly. “And does this kid have a name?”

“Andrew Flagman,” Eric answered as he looked at his papers, and H straightened, put his sunglasses on, and nodded.

“Then I think we should go see our Mr. Flagman, don’t you, Eric?”

“I’ve already got the address,” Eric grinned, and together the two left the room, crossed the parking lot and climbed into H’s Hummer.
