Chapter Five
There was a scent in the air and it smelled really good. It smelled of something floral…and fur. I was surrounded by sweet smelling furry warmth.
“Oh, Sweetheart,” an elderly woman’s voice cackled with glee, “Little Red was the wolf that ate Grandma.”
My eyes snapped open and I was no longer surrounded in the furry warmth of my dreams. I was lying on my back, in a bed, and in a room that was not my own. It was dark…except for the nightlight.
Nightlight? When had I gotten a nightlight?
I sat up and that was when I saw Clark sprawled out in a chair with his feet propped up on the bed I was in. He had a pretty red blanket covering him and he was snoring softly.
I remembered.
I watched him as he slept. His chest would rise up and down with each hypnotic breath that he took. His nose made its funny little noise each time his chest rose.
Why am I here? This perfect family does not even know me. Why are they taking the time out of their happy lives to help someone like me? I’m nobody. Why care?
All of a sudden I felt something deep inside myself move…shift…and it brought a blinding hot pain to the surface. I let out a hiss and doubled over on my side in pain.
I curled up in a tight ball as the pain seared through my limbs. It felt like bolts of lightning were sizzling through my nerves. I felt like I was on fire. Was I going to suddenly bust into flames?
“Don’t tell him such stories,” my mother’s voice reprimanded, “You’ll cause him to have bad dreams.”
“Stories,” that elderly woman’s voice scoffed, “I tell only truth, Dear Heart.”
I’m hearing voices. This is just great. I’m hearing the dead now. I’m going to be locked up for sure.
My spine felt as though it were twisting and snapping. Hell, my whole body felt like it was twisting and snapping.
“Clark,” I groaned out and my voice was all deep and scary again. The sound was like something trying to speak that did not have human lips or vocal cords.
I felt strong hands touching me, “What’s wrong?”
“Pain,” my deep voice snarled as my entire body suddenly went into a violent spasm of pain, “Hurt.”
The lights came on and I cried out from the pain it caused my eyes. They were stinging and I could hear cloth being shredded. My body felt too tight.
“Oh, god,” Clark whispered from somewhere near me.
I was in tears. My body felt like it was tearing itself apart.
Something in me suddenly snapped and I screamed. The only thing is, it was not a scream. It was one long howl that made my blood run cold.
I opened my eyes and looked at my hands that were not my hands. My arms were not my arms. My legs were not my legs. My body was not my body.
“Clark,” my deep inhuman voice snarled and I jumped to my feet to find that I was towering over him by at least three feet.
He took a step back and my eyes widened when I saw myself in his mirror. There was a creature not of this world gazing back at me. Molten blue eyes burned through a wolf’s mask of white fur and pearly scales. I was a fucking nine foot wolf standing up like a human. I am a fucking werewolf!
I touched my face with razor sharp talons that looked as through they could tear a human in two with one swipe.
“Clark,” Mr. Kent shouted from the hall, “What was that howl?”
“Don’t come in,” Clark called out and stepped towards me, “Everything’s fine!”
Everything is not fine! What the fuck is happening to me? I’m a fucking wolf! I’m a fucking nine foot werewolf!
It’s a dream. All of this is just a bad dream. I’m going to wake up any minute now.
I smacked my face and my eyes watered. I whimpered and it was like a dog whining. That had fucking hurt. This was not a dream. I’m not going to wake up.
Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!
“I’m coming in,” Mr. Kent said.
“No,” Clark yelled, “Don’t!”
“What’s going on,” Mrs. Kent asked, “Clark?”
Clark quickly locked the door and told me to sit. What the fuck? I’m not a dog! I’ll bite your fucking head off!
No!
I gazed down into worried green eyes and suddenly fell to my inhuman knees as a blinding pain struck me from the inside out again.
I screamed but it was another blood chilling howl. The door busted open and both the elder Kent’s froze in their tracks in the doorway.
I curled up on the floor whimpering with tears in my eyes as my body ripped itself to shreds again.
Clark was holding me in his arms and I cried out as my talon’s gripped his arms that would of shredded a mere humans to pieces. I threw my head back and screamed as the bones in my jaws snapped and reformed. Glowing pale skin replaced fur and scales.
I collapsed into his arms with a fine sweat covering my naked body that made my skin glisten in the light.
“Jonathan,” Mrs. Kent whispered, “Look at his body.”
“No,” I cried out but was too weak to move, “Don’t look at me!”
“Flawless,” Mr. Kent said in awe, “There are no scars.”
“Shut up,” I hissed and tried to break free from Clark’s grip on me, “I’m hideous.”
“Calm down,” Clark advised in a soothing tone, “Before you hurt yourself.”
I smacked his face and froze in horror. That was the first time I had ever raised my hand to anybody in my life. Why him? He has done nothing to me but help me.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered but he was simply looking my hand over, “I didn’t mean it.”
I lowered my head in shame and felt my cheeks burning.
“You could have broken your hand,” he said as he suddenly put a sheet around me.
“What,” I asked and looked at my hand. I had barely felt anything.
“My body is different,” he said, “You could have really hurt yourself.”
“I’m sorry,” I said and took my pale hand from his, “I didn’t mean to strike you.”
“Its okay,” he said with a small smile, “You were scared.”
“Clark,” Mrs. Kent said stepping into the room, “There are no scares.”
“What,” Mr. Kent asked as he took a seat on the destroyed bed, “What did we just see?”
“I’m not sure,” Clark said looking at me with sparkling green eyes, “But it was kind of cool.”
I got to my feet and turned away from them. I opened the sheet up and my eyes popped out of my skull.
There was not a single scar on my chest or my legs. It was all creamy smooth skin that seemed to glow with a pale inner light.
What the fuck?
There was no trace that I had even had scars. This couldn’t be real. None of this could be real.
I closed the sheet and spun around to see all three looking at me with a mixture of awe and something else in their eyes. Why were they looking at me like that?
“Is it over,” Mrs. Kent asked putting a hand on Mr. Kent’s shoulder, “Whatever “it” was?”
“I don’t know,” I said and suddenly fought not to blush. They had seen me naked. Clark…had seen my naked.
“An American Werewolf in Smallville,” Mrs. Kent said under her breath.
Clark’s eyes widened, “Were you bitten?”
“No,” I said and suddenly felt a little woozy and sick to my stomach, “I’ve never been bitten by anything except…”
I lowered my eyes.
Clark blushed, “Sorry.”
I shook my head, “I think I’m going to pass out.”
“Are you okay,” he asked and stepped towards me.
The room was starting to spin and I had no clue that Clark had a twin. They looked exactly alike.
“Catch him,” Mr. Kent shouted and that warm furry darkness took me again.
“Little Red was framed, I tell you,” a deep masculine voice chuckled, “It was her twin brother, Little Blue, who gobbled up Grandma.”
