ch 57
Packing Sara and her things into the truck proved to be more difficult than he once anticipated.
He let Sara get comfortable in the back seat of the car. He figured it was easier for her.
“You alright here?”
She was breathing heavily. “Soon, hurry quickly.”
Grissom sped out on to the highway. “Sara, hang on.”
“I’m bleeding Griss. Oh no.”
He rushed into the traffic heading towards Desert Palm. He had to come to a deal halt. Traffic Jam? What are the chances?
He brought the car to a stop and got out to examine the situation. He was so upset; there was blood all over the seat.
He flipped his phone open and called 9-1-1. “This is Gil Grissom, my wife is giving birth in the traffic jam on the highway, and please hurry and she is bleeding.”
Sara let out a big scream. Grissom grabbed her hand and let her squeeze it. He was so worried. He just got her he didn’t want to lose her. He didn’t want to lose the babies either.
He could hear the chopper approaching. He just wanted Sara to be safe and the babies.
The paramedic approached the truck and assessed the situation.
“How far along is she?”
“Only five months.” HE was near tears, everything flashed before him. He couldn’t lose them. He couldn’t.
“We need to load her into the chopper; can you move the truck off the road?”
“Yes, I am not leaving her.”
“I figured as much, you can come too, but we need to hurry.”
As soon as they had Sara on board he moved the truck and joined them. AS soon as they got to the hospital he started making calls.
“Jim, please go grab Mara and go collect my truck. The spare key is at the house, Sara is in trouble.”
“Gil? Where are you?”
“Hospital, its Sara.” The line went dead.
Grissom paced the hall until she was stabilized. Being such a high-risk procedure he wasn’t allowed to be in there. He just wanted to hold her hand and tell her everything was going to be alright. I can’t lose her, not now. I love her so much. I love the babies too, I don’t know them but I love them more than life itself. Please.
It wasn’t ten minutes and the doctor arrived.
“Mr. Grissom, we have some news.”
Grissom stood up. He expected the worst.
~~~
“Late breaking News. There is traffic jam on the highway and it seems that someone is giving birth. Local Crime Scene Investigators Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle were in traffic and she was rushed to Desert Palm to have the babies. The traffic jam is teetering off.”
Conrad Ecklie nearly spit his coffee across the room. “Grissom and Sidle? When did this happen?”
He ran to the office to ask if they all knew of this. Everyone was oblivious.
Ecklie went to find Catherine.
“Catherine, did you know about Gil and Sara?”
“WE just found out last night.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“Have you heard the news?”
“About what?”
“Sara has been rushed to Desert Palm in labour.”
“What? She isn’t that far along.”
“Oh, so this isn’t a good thing?”
“No.” Catherine went silent. “I need to call the rest of them.”
~~~
“Alright Doc, tell me the news.” Grissom prepared for the worst.
“You have two sons, Mr Grissom. They are stabilized, a bit small but stable no less.”
“How is Sara?”
“She is fine too, tired but fine.”
“I need to call home.”
He let Sara get comfortable in the back seat of the car. He figured it was easier for her.
