ch 57
After the wedding ended they all gathered to socialize before heading home for the night.
Jim Brass approached Mara to talk to her.
“SO, how do you know Gil and Sara?”
“I am Sara’s foster mom.”
“Oh, great. I’m Jim Brass; I have known Gil for years.”
“Nice to meet you Jim. I’m Mara Zorro.”
“Is that Latino?”
“Why yes it is.” Mara was all smiles.
“Can I get you a drink?” Jim asked.
“Sure, I would love a glass of punch.”
HE returned with it immediately.
“So, you and Gil’s mom spearheaded this whole operation?”
“Yup. WE sure did.”
“It is about time.”
“What do you mean?”
“They have been dancing around forever trying to deny their feelings.”
“Oh that. I know.”
“So Mara, how long are you in town for?”
“Until Sara kicks me out.”
“That long, egh.”
“Yes, why?”
“I was wondering if I could by chance talk you out for dinner sometime.”
“Really?”
“Yes, would that be alright.”
“Certainly. I’m sure you know the number.” She laughed.
Brass laughed back.
Sara looked across the room and nudged Grissom. “Look.”
“Brass and Mara?”
“Yup.”
Grissom smiled.
The guests left and Sara and Grissom retreated to bed, they were both exhausted.
Sara couldn’t help but stare at the matching bands adorning their left fingers.
Sara got up and headed to the nursery, she got the itch to do something. Her nesting instincts kicked in.
It was Christmas morning and all, but she got the best gift last night, once Grissom woke up they would open the rest of the gifts.
Sara was organizing the baby’s room when she got a sharp pain in the tummy. She fell to the floor.
“Griss, you gotta come help me, I’m down and I’m not sure I can get back up.”
He came running with a slight smirk on his face.
“Wipe that grin off of your face, this is not funny.” Sara spat. “I think there is something wrong, I feel pain.”
“I’m sorry, sweetie, but you look so cute down there on the floor. Let me get you up, do you need to go to the doctor?”
“This is not funny. I hope I don’t get much bigger, I mean this is ridiculous.”
“Honey, you are just over six months, I think these monsters aren’t done growing yet.”
“You are so helpful.” She took his hand as he helped her up. “I can’t get much bigger; I mean I am almost completely useless.”
“You will never be useless, Sara.” He kissed her softly. “On the contrary, I think you are absolutely gorgeous. As gorgeous as the day we met or the day we married.”
“You just say that to make me feel better. Besides, that was just yesterday.”
“No, I’m serious. You are absolutely radiant. You are glowing, pregnancy does you well? I keep telling you that.”
She kissed him back, “You are so sweet to me, what did I do to deserve you?”
“You waited; you helped me in my hour of need. If anything I should feel like the special one. You helped me overcome something that plagued me for years.”
“I love you.” Sara kissed him lightly. “And if I wasn’t the size of a house I would show you how much.” She smiled slyly.
“I know how much you love me, Sara, you show me every day. I love you and those two boys just as much if not more.” He rubbed her belly. “I can’t wait until they get here. I will be the happiest man alive.”
Who’d a thought that I would end up married to Sara and she would be having my children. Our wedding day was so simple but so special. It was a small ceremony with just a few friends in front of a Justice of the Peace, dressed in a Santa Suit but it means so much more to me than she could ever know.
“I’m the happiest woman, I am sure of that.” Sara grabbed her belly. “Gil, something is wrong.”
“Sara, what is it? The babies?”
She nodded, “Yes, I think they are coming. That pain just got worse.”
“Now?”
“Yes, NOW!” She growled. “It’s too early.”
“Calm down, sweetie, everything will be alright.” He tried to reassure her.
“Easy for you to say, you aren’t the one who has to squeeze not one but two babies out of a hole that is too small.”
He tried to hide his smile. “Let’s get you to the hospital; I’m anxious to meet my children.”
