ch 56

The guests started to arrive at seven. Sara was already there but they thought nothing of it, she was invited too plus she was always early.

Sara was dressed in a scarlet red dress with an empire waist. It hid her bulging belly well.

Grissom was in a double-breasted suit with a red tie and cummerbund.

Catherine was the first to arrive with Lindsay. They stepped inside and were amazed.

“Mom look, Grissom decorated for Christmas.” Lindsay squealed.

“I know, something is not quite right here. I mean look at Gil, he is dressed up.”

“I think he looks nice mom, so does Sara.”

“She does doesn’t she.”

“The dress sure is pretty.”

“Yes it is.”

The doorbell rang again and Warrick and Nick stood on the front step. Mara let them in. They too were amazed with the decorations.

“Hey Griss, nice crib.” Warrick added. Nick agreed.

Brass and Greg as well as Al and his wife followed, once all of them were there they gathered in the brightly decorated living room for drinks.

Grissom introduced his mother and Mara. He conveniently left out that Mara was Sara’s foster mom. Brass looked across the room at the lady and his heart nearly stopped. She was beautiful. He wondered how she knew Gil.

“You can just put the gifts under the tree and we can sit down for some appetizers.” Grissom requested.

They all put the gifts under the tree and they gathered around the food. They could smell something wonderful; they figured it must be dinner.

“So what are you feeding us?”

“The traditional turkey.”

“Cool, my favourite.” Nick chimed.

The phone rang and Mara answered it. It was the priest cancelling. He came down with a bad case of the flu. He was in the hospital; his assistant called and offered his apologies.

“Victoria would please join me in the kitchen.” Mara asked.

After being told what the request was she joined her in the kitchen.

“What seems to be the problem?”

“Priest has the flu.”

“What?”

“Yup, so now what?”

“Can we find a Justice of the Peace on such short notice on Christmas Eve?”

“I’m not sure.”

“Who could we ask?”

“Greg, would you mind coming here.”

He got up and went to the kitchen. “What can I do for you lovely ladies?”

“We have a very important job for you.”

“You do?”

“Yes, we need you to do something very important but at the same time keep it a secret.”

“Alright.” He was confused.

“We need you to go find us a Justice of the Peace.”

“A what?”

“Don’t ask just please do it. Also don’t tell anyone where you are going.”

“Okey Dokey.” Greg left smiling that he was the one included.

“We will save you some Dinner, Greg.” They yelled.

“Thanks.”

“Where is Greg going?”

“We ran out of something, he is running an errand.”

“Oh alright.”

“It’s for dessert. Are you ready to eat?”

“Yes, it sure smells good.”

They dished up the food and everyone was still oblivious to the bigger plan. The dinner was finished and they were cleaning up awaiting Greg’s return.

Victoria walked out in the back yard and nearly screamed. It started to rain. Now what? What’s next?

She went back inside to find Mara. They left the guests in the living room to open the gifts. Victoria was getting worried.

“Have you looked outside?”

“No why?”

“It’s raining.”

“What!”

“Yes, so no wedding in the gazebo. Where can we have it in this house?”

“I’m not sure, we need some space, and the rooms are filled with trees and decorations.”

“I know.” Victoria said with a grin on her face. “Gil’s bug room. It is big and mostly unused save for the insects, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.”

“Do we have a choice?”

“Not really, so bug room it is.”

Greg walked through the door. He had a guest.

“Greg, care to explain.”

“This is Dave he is a Justice of the Peace, he just also happens to be dressed like Santa, is that ok?”

“It will have to be.”

“Dave we need you in the room down the hall please.” Mara stated.

They walked back to the living room.

“Are you finished with the presents?”

“Yes, why?”

“Well follow us, desert is down the hall.”

They were all confused but being investigators they followed. They opened the door to the bug room and walked inside. Santa stood there looking at the bugs.

“Mom, why is Santa here now?” Lindsay asked.

“I’m not sure, sweetie. I figure we will know soon enough.”

“Ok alright.”

Mara and Victoria asked Gil and Sara to come to the front of the room. The guests were a bit confused. Grissom took his hands in Sara’s. “You ready?” He whispered.

She nodded.

“Ok, guys, we have some news.”

“You do?”

“Yes, we brought you here for a specific reason.”

“We, as in you and Sara?”

“Yes, Sara and I brought you here so we could get married.”

The crowd nearly fell over.

“Oh by the way, Sara is pregnant too. Twins.”

Sara held her dress in so they could see her belly. They were all speechless as the ceremony began.
