ch 53
Victoria stepped through the front door and placed her bags down on the floor. She began to remove her jacket and then she took off her boots. Looking up she saw Sara and an older woman sitting on the couch.
“Sara, dear, who is your friend?”
“Mom, this is Mara, my foster mom.”
She held out her hand to shake.
“Glad to meet you finally. I have heard about you since I came here.”
Mara was puzzled. This woman was deaf yet she was talking.
“Mara, she went deaf as an adult, she did learn to talk.”
“Oh alright.”
“She reads lips too.”
“Oh good, my ASL is the pits.” She laughed lightly.
“So Mara, we have a wedding to plan.” Victoria added.
“Yes we do, do you have any suggestions?”
“I do. Let me put my bags in my room and I will return.”
Victoria did just that. She returned promptly.
“I’ll make us some tea.” Sara said getting up.
“That would be wonderful, thanks.”
“Not a problem.”
Sara turned the kettle on and went to find Grissom.
“Griss.” She said walking into the office.
“Yes, sweetie.”
“Your mom just got home. She is getting acquainted with Mara.”
“How is that going?”
“Good. No great, better than I thought.”
“Really?”
“I am on a mission for tea, I thought I would come check on you while I waited for the water to boil.”
“Thanks.” He said pulling her into his lap and giving her a kiss.
“Umm, you are welcome.”
He caressed her belly. “Hey in there, can you hear me?”
“Griss, you do know that very soon I am going to be way to big to sit in your lap.”
“No way. I will manage.”
“If you say so, but I swear before too long I will be as big as a house.”
“You will be cute. You get sexier and sexier everyday.”
“I do not. I look horrible. I am fat.”
“No way. This pregnancy has been very wonderful to you. You are positively radiant.”
“You are such a flatterer, where do you think that will get you?”
“Everywhere.”
She leaned in close to his ear. “You don’t have to flatter me, Griss.”
“I know, but I am trying to be honest with you. You look amazing. You and your cute little belly.”
“Grissom.”
“What, can’t blame a guy for loving his gal now can ya.”
“NO. I love you too. Have I told you recently how happy I am?”
“Not in the last few minutes, no.”
“Well I am happy, very happy.”
The kettle whistled. “That’s my cue.”
She kissed him before getting up and heading back to the kitchen.
She prepared the tea and returned to the living room with the teapot and cups as well as cream and sugar. She had placed it neatly on the tray.
“Thank you, Sara, where’s Gil.” Victoria asked.
“In the office.”
“Could you get him?”
“Sure, why?”
“Just get him and we will explain.”
Sara retrieved Grissom and sat in front of them.
“We both know you two have a lot on your plates with the pregnancy and all especially at work. In light of this, we are planning the wedding by ourselves.” Victoria spoke. “Gil before you start, I am your mother and you will listen to me.”
Grissom was quiet, so was Sara.
“We want you to compile a guest list and each buy appropriate wedding attire of your choosing and that is all.”
Sara began to protest. “Sara, you have enough to worry about.” Mara added, Grissom agreed.
“Alright.”
“We want you to go get your clothes now and leave us alone.”
They looked at each other and stood up. “Kicked out of our own house.”
“I know, Mothers.” Grissom grumbled.
“I agree.”
