Sara ran around the house making sure things were where they belonged. Mrs Grissom’s room was set up and ready for her, she was coming in on an afternoon flight, Grissom went to go pick her up at the airport.

What if she doesn’t like me?

What if I’m not good enough for her only son?

Oh god!

The door opened and Grissom stood with an elderly lady. She had to be nearly seventy but she looked great for her age. She had grey hair that was cut short and Sara noticed the Grissom blue eyes right away.

“Sara.” Grissom asked putting his keys down.

“Yes.”

“I would like you to meet my mom. Victoria Grissom.”

Sara held out her hand. The woman pulled her into an embrace. “Thank you.” She whispered in her ear.

Sara was momentarily stunned.

“Gil run along and let us ladies talk. Where is my room? Go place my bags in there please.”

“He took the bags and placed them in his mother’s room. He went to feed his bugs allowing them some time to talk.

Sara sat on the couch with Grissom’s mom.

“Sara, the only thing I ask is you look at me when you talk, it is hard to read lips when someone isn’t looking at you.”

“No problem, Mrs Grissom.” Sara smiled.

“Please call me Victoria or Mom; that is too formal for my daughter to be.”

Sara smiled. “Alright, mom,” Sara was shocked at how good that felt, “what did you want to talk about?”

“This, woman to woman.”

She took Sara’s hand.

“I want to personally thank you for this. I gain a daughter and two grandchildren. I am so happy. At my age I figured Gil was way past the point of no return. He never really had girlfriends I am just happy to know he isn’t gay.”

“He said you would say that.”

“No doubt’ I’ve been asking him for years.”

Sara laughed.

“So what is left to do?”

“Mara will be here tomorrow, she is my foster mom. We still have a wedding to plan as well as a party and get everything ready for these two.” Sara’s hands went to her belly.

“Can you feel them yet?”

“Sometimes. I am glad the nausea subsided, that was brutal.”

“Yes, I remember mine lasted my whole pregnancy. I refused to do it again. That is why Gil is an only child.”

“I didn’t realize.”

“The pregnancy was only slightly better than the birth, but enough about that, I don’t want to scare you. How about you show me around?”

“Sure.” Sara stood up and walked room-to-room explaining where everything was.

Victoria was in awe with the house. She really enjoyed her room and the bed set that Grissom had picked out for her. She really loved the nursery; she wasn’t surprised that the nursery was decorated in bugs. She looked in each crib and reached out to touch the small bug stufties that were in there. There was a dragonfly on one and a Butterfly on the other.

“Gil had one of these when he was a kid, he loved it; it was a spider.”

Sara smiled as she pictured a child version of Grissom running around carrying a stuffed spider, it brought a bigger smile.

Sara wondered if their babies would look like her or Grissom.

After the tour Victoria laid down for a nap, she was a bit jetlagged, Sara went to find Grissom.

“Your mom is amazing.”

“I told you she would like you.”

“Yes you did, I’m sorry I doubted you.”

“She is my mom; I knew she would be happy. Where is mom?”

“Lying down.”

“Ok, cool. Did you see what she brought us?”

“No, what is it?”

“Paintings of bugs for the nursery.”

“How sweet. They will go well.”

“I agree.”

“Griss. I’m tired too, will you come lay down with me?”

“Certainly.”

He followed her to the bedroom.

Sara lay on her side trying to get comfortable.

“Griss, did you see that?”

“See what?”

“The baby just kicked, give me your hand.”

He passed her is hand and she placed it on her stomach.

“Can you feel it?”

“I felt something.”

“That is our babies, Griss.”

A tear fell from her eyes. He reached over to wipe it away and kissed her forehead.

“Rest my sweet, Mara comes tomorrow.”

“Umm.” She drifted off to sleep.
