But I always thought I'd see you again...
Tell Me
Daryl, Allen, T and Rick found a small grocery store about three hours away from the prison. Daryl and Allen went in first to clear the place.
Allen yelled for T and Rick, saying the place is safe. Once the four men were safely in the store, they began to gather supplies. T heard a noise near the bathroom, and signaled for the others. The four went to the men's room, and Rick yelled for whoever is in there to come out.
"I'm an old man, and I have my two daughters with me." A voice said.
"Open the door and show me your hands." Rick commanded.
The door opened inward, and Rick saw a pair of white hands that belonged to an adult man. "I have two daughters."
"Keep coming." Rick repeated. "All the way out."
The man came out, and stood in front of the door to the bathroom.
"I'm asking for mercy. If not for me, than for my daughters." The man said.
"What's your name?" Allen asked.
"Hershel. Hershel Greene."
The words were like a kick in the gut to Rick.
"Do you have a farm around here?" Rick asked.
"We just lost it last week."
Allen noticed that Rick holstered his gun, and did the same.
"Do you have shelter? I need to get my daughters to safety."
Rick nodded, and asked that he ride in Hershel's car while Daryl, Allen and T rode in the other vehicle.
At the prison, Michonne as asking Lori about her husband.
"I went to high school with a kid named Rick Grimes. He had the bluest eyes."
"Older brother named Jeff?" Lori asked.
"That's him!" Michonne chuckled. "How is he? His family?"
"I don't know how he's doing. His brother passed away years before the virus hit. I hope his parents are okay. Shane took me to my parents and we had to put them down."
""I'm sorry."
"Thanks. It never gets any easier."
"Yep. Even when we're in our thirties we still want out parents." Michonne said, with a half-hearted smile.
They sat in silence for a while, and Michonne wanted to see the kind of character Lori was.
"I went to high school with this girl…she got pregnant, and the boy's parents forced her to put the baby up for adoption. She didn't want to, but she was only fifteen. She lived with her grandmother, her parents were only God knows where, and she wanted a future. She didn't have a say in the matter because she was so young. But truth be told, she was black and her boyfriend was white. His pain in the ass parents were racist and didn't want their grandson to be…and these are their words…'part nigger.' It tore them both up."
Lori's face fell, and Michonne could tell that she was sincerely sad about the situation. "I'm so sorry to hear that. That's horrible. Some people have no class. Did she try to find her child? I mean, if she was fifteen when she had the baby, the boy should be over eighteen. There's hope. Hearing stuff like that is heartbreaking. I hope she's at peace."
"Thanks. So you and Rick, how'd you guys meet?"
Lori chuckled, "We met at Jeff's graduation party. I was a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend kind of thing. He was so sweet. He was playing volleyball, but stopped and came to sit at the picnic table with me. He was so nice, he got me food from the grill, and even wiped the side of my face when I got ketchup on it. We talked until late at night, and got engaged just three months later. I guess that lightning bolt hits. We've been together for twelve years, and have three kids. But for the life of me I can't figure out what happened. Rick's a cop, and almost a year ago he got shot. A month or so after that he slipped into a coma. I sat by his side every day. Shane, that's…or that was Rick buddy since childhood, made sure that the kids and I got to safety. We lost him months ago."
"Shane died?" Michonne asked.
"Oh, yeah…you would've know him from high school. Rick got back and it was like we were newlyweds again, even though I was pregnant and fat. We went to the CDC for info, but the guy made the place explode. When we were running to our cars Shane got scratched. There was someone we knew who got bitten and he suffered. It was horrible. Shane wanted to end it. He asked Rick to do it. Andrea…she just had Shane's baby."
"Jesus."
"Yep. It feels like a nightmare." Lori paused and reflected on the past year. "So how about you and Ty?"
Michonne smiled. "I started a new high school, and he was one of the football players. The lightning bolt hit us too. I got pregnant with Collette, and we've been together ever since."
"That's sweet. I love hearing high school sweetheart stories."
"Me too." Michonne smiled, as she side-eyed Lori.
