Chapter 5

Chp 5.
The brothers watched the girl stand and stare at them, a sense of fear passing her features and then fading. Dean was staring back, he certainly didn’t expect someone this... hot, yeah he’d joked about not wanting to kill a hot girl but that was only a joke. She looked younger than the description people had given them and she was much paler than he had ever imagined.
Sam noticed the scar that so many people had mentioned but not remembered, it was shaped like an upside down crucifix, surely it had a lot more meaning to it than just coincidental chance. He saw Dean gawping and rolled his eyes inwardly. The girl looked to the man named Henry, concern on her features,
“Where’s Wendy?” she asked, her accent didn’t sound like that of a Louisianan, there was a hint of it but it was mixed with something else foreign. The man sighed,
“She’ll be with us soon, rowdy customers you know the like” Henry smiled slightly and looked to the two men, “shall I leave you alone?” he questioned, Sam looked over to him,
“If you’d feel more comfortable” Sam replied, sympathy in his voice the man shook his head,
“I ain’t worried about me, its little miss over there” he pointed to the girl, who bit her lip,
“I’ll be ok, but I want you to stay” She looked unsure of the two brothers, Henry nodded,
“Okay, you two gentleman should sit down” He directed them to the sofa then looked to the girl, “Faye you sit down to, no not on the floor, the chair” The girl obediently sat in the rocking chair to the side of the sofa, Henry hauled a nearby dining chair to the circle and took his pipe out, “whatever you have to say to the little lady you don’t worry ‘bout me interrupting, this is her problem not mine” Henry stated before lighting his pipe, he sat back and allowed the two men to start talking. Sam nudged Dean’s elbow, bringing him out of his staring to sit on the sofa, he cleared his throat,
“Now Miss...” he trailed off,
“Sloane” the girl replied, “Faye Sloane” she bit her lip as if she had done something wrong and looked to Henry, the man merely nodded,
“Thank you Miss Sloane” Dean grinned to the girl, he noticed her fidget on the rocking chair and looked tiny compared to its size, “We’ve been looking for you for a while” Faye didn’t respond, looking to the floor, “What would a lady like yourself be doing travelling this far out?” The girl brought her legs up and crossed them on the chair, playing with a strand of hair,
“Getting away” it sounded more of a question than a response; Sam frowned while he let his brother talk,
“From?” This was the point were he had to lie, he had no idea who Faye was... she’d murdered people that much he knew, waking up with her last victim next to him was more than enough evidence to know what had taken place. He couldn’t just tell these men though...
“Who are you?” he questioned back, not intentionally avoiding the question given to him... well maybe. Sam had expected some avoidance from the girl but not so soon into their conversation – he had at least expected for her to be defensive from the start but she had been more wary than defensive and not at all what he would have expected from a witch. He heard Dean shift at his side,
“We are Police Officers maam, we’ve been looking for you for a while” He noticed the tension in Faye as he mentioned the word ‘police’, “Now could you please answer my partners question?” He kept his expression serious which only added to the girls stressed body language. ‘Shit’ he thought, what was he going to say now, these two might have known who he was but no such luck in any case he may be killed by these two he had no idea what law enforcers of this place would do to ‘criminals’. He bit his lip and felt his throat go dry, what had this girl been running from? The gaze of the two policemen was gradually changing to annoyance – In his point of veiw,
“M-my boyfriend” Faye almost blurted out the words, startling the three men in the room – Henry almost looked ashamed as her gaze passed to him.
“Your boyfriend?” Dean didnt expect that, the girl seemed to have next to nothing when it came to a back up plan if getting caught. He knew it was a lie and the idea that this girl may have killed all those men was getting less and less likely.
“Why?” Sam replied, Dean looked to him slightly confused, surely he couldnt be going along with this?
“B-because he hurt me” Faye tried to make a picture in her head of this man... mainly thinking of the man with blue eyes, “He wants me to come back but I won’t” she looked to the fire somewhat in hope that their might be answers there,
“He’s followed you?” Sam frowned, by all accounts her story was believable – it would have been crystal if not for the string of bloody bodies following her. From the police records they’d managed to ‘aquire’ there had been no third person dna at the scenes apart from that of sleepy landlords stumbling in on the bodies and becoming clumsy from shock. Right now Sam was just indulging the girl, and the landlord – he couldn’t really speak to this girl about the supernatural side of these crimes with him present. He side glanced the landlord who still sucked at his pipe, occasionally looking at the girl but most of the time his eyes were closed.
“He still is” Faye nodded, now going on with her story for her it was real – he was following her. Dean frowned, growing tired of the girls lying,
“Maam? I don’t know if what your telling my partner is exactly true, but we have a series of crime scenes with your dna and witness reports describing your details exactly” Faye looked up to the blonde haired man her eyes wide, had her heart just stopped? There was more than one body? She couldnt speak and looked to Henry who now had his eyes open looking at the policeman who had just spoke, “Now I dunno what your motive was but theres no denying what we got on you” Dean continued, the girl appeared to be suprised at what he had just said. Sam watched the girl, waiting for some sort of outburst that didn’t come and he was starting to doubt if this was the girl they were after – but what partial parts of what Dean had said were true and what were the chances of running into another person with that scar?
Faye merely sat in her rocking chair, feeling herself get smaller by the minute, if she could still fly she’d be falling right now. How many people had this girl murdered before he had found himself trapped inside her? What had she been like? Not like him obviously. Now it wasn’t just that thing after him but the police to and how easy would it be for that deamon to get him once he was locked away? He wouldn’t be able to move around or be protected by the crowds like here. A shift from the other side of the room made him jump and he saw Henry rise from his chair,
“I said I wouldn’t interject, but I doubt you’ll get much out of the little miss right now hmm?” Henry looked to the brothers. The two looked at the girl again who had paled more than was humanly possible and looked in shock, Sam sighed at there wasted efforts.
“We can get you gentlemen a room for the night, she won’t be going anywhere don’t you worry” Henry looked to Faye and she nodded in response, looking over to the two policemen, “I know you officers probably have more to ask her and that can wait till the mornin’”
“If she’s not here...” Dean stood up, it was less of a threat and more of an assurance, he didn’t want to be driving half way across America again.
“She will be officer, if she knows she’s done nothin’ wrong shes got nothin’ to run from” Henry replied, giving Dean an expression of fatherly protection for the girl even if it weren’t intentional he still wanted to make sure Faye stayed safe.
“Thankyou Sir” Sam stood and smiled at Henry and then looked to Faye, “Thankyou Miss... please think of anything else that you think may be beneficial for us to know” Faye nodded and looked at both men, her gaze lingering on Dean. The two men followed Henry out of the room and left Faye to her thoughts.
Wendy hugged her rather ample bosom as she leant against the bar, her thoughts elsewhere from her patrons. Surely that girl wasn’t capable of murder? She heard the creak of the stairs behind her and stood straight immeadialty, watching Henry and then the two police officers enter the bar from the stairs. She couldn’t help but sneer slightly at the officers,
“Well?” She questioned Henry as soon as he entered the bar, the man couldn’t help but be a little startled,
“The little miss is a bit shocked, I advised these officers to stay the night and try again tomorrow morning” Henry wrote down their names and room in the log book and turned back to the two, Dean smiled to Wendy,
“Hope you dont mind that maam?” Sam watched the woman twitch a little with supressed annoyance,
“Not at all officers, I hope you enjoy your short stay with us. If you excuse me I must attend to my patrons” She smiled finally before going behind the bar again and serving a customer. Henry collected a key from behind the bar and handed it to Dean,
“You’ll be staying in room 5 in the adjoining building. If you don’t mind I better go back, I got some barrells need changing” He nodded to the two men and left them. Dean looked at the key in his hand and then to his brother,
“Well I feel welcome” He smirked, pocketing the key and grabbing the nearest table, keeping an eye on Wendy who looked over to them every now and then.
“Thats what you get for being a police officer” He sat down facing his brother, “Tends to be a love hate relationship”
“Sounds familiar” Dean quipped and leant his elbows on the table, changing the subject before his brother could reply, “So, what do you think?” Sam raised and eyebrow,
“To the girl?” He looked to the side “I really dont think she could be capable of murder, but then she mind have mental problems – schizophrenic maybe” He leant back against the chair and mused. The girl had been genuinly shocked when Dean had revealed their true reasons for wanting to talk to her, it was like it was the first time she had been told. Her thoughts had always seemed to be somewhere else only to come back to earth momentarily when Dean or himself had asked a question.
“The cute girls are always crazy” Dean flicked an abandoned bottle cap on the table, ignoring the expression Sam pulled in reply, “I don’t think shes going to be here in the morning, whatever that dude’s said hes protecting her even if he don’t mean to” He looked around the bar which had decreased in the amount of punters since they had been in the back,
“We’ll just have to keep watch then” Sam suggested, “Take turns watching out” he hated the idea of another restless night but if was needed then he couldn’t much help avoid it. He heard Dean grumble something about wanting to kill said girl for the trouble but his mind was otherwise preoccupied with what that girl could actually be.
