At Four A.M., Words Are All I Have

~~~~~~~~~~
Kinch stirred from his sleep. He looked at his watch.
In the dim light he could see that it was just after four a.m.
He looked to his right to see Hogan setting a foot away
from the bed with his face resting in his hands.
Upon hearing the slight rustle of sheets, Hogan looked up.
He was relieved to see Kinch awake. Two pairs of brown eyes locked.
"How are you feeling, Kinch?" Hogan asked, reaching out and taking Kinch's hand.
"Honestly... I'm in some pain... but with you here it doesn't seem that bad."
Kinch managed a weak yet pain riddled smile.
Hogan retrieved a small bottle of aspirin. He shook two out and
handed them to Kinch along with a glass of water. Kinch thanked Hogan.
"I think that fate has something in store for us." Hogan said.
"Me, too. With the tunnel and me getting shot." Kinch said, another weak smile played across his face.
"In some weird way, I'm glad that all of this has happened.
If this war and us getting placed in the same stalag had never happened,
we never would've met." Hogan said.
"Wow. Even at four in the morning, you can steal someone's heart." Kinch said.
Hogan just smiled softly. He placed a kiss on Kinch's lips before coaxing him back to sleep.
