Chapter Four
Pretty Shiny
Flora Winters
I do not own anything from Buffy or Smallville.
Summary: Glory will do anything to get her hands on a shiny octagonal key. This key will allow her to open a portal so she can use Dawn's blood once more to try and get home. A certain alien just so happens to possess the item she is after. Can this God of the cornpatch stand in the way of an almighty pissed off Hellbitch while he falls madly in love with the man she is trapped in?
Chapter Four
There is a Hell God in the Talon. Correction. There is a Hell God sitting in the Talon debating whether or not she wanted the fresh baked apple pie or the chocolate coated strawberry cheesecake.
She was already sipping on a chocolate shake and decided she wanted the cheesecake. The best part about being a God was that you could eat whatever the fuck you wanted and not gain one single fucking pound.
Glory sipped from her straw and mused over how she was going to have a statue made in her perfect image with a triple double cheeseburger in one hand, and a large ultra chocolate shake in the other. She threw down her desert menu and snapped her perfect manicured fingers for the waitress.
The young girl walked over, “What can I get for you miss?”
Glory smiled prettily up at the girl and pointed at the picture, “I want a big slice of that.”
The young girl jotted it down on her pad and ran off to get her order. Glory could not help but laugh because the best part about Bumpkinville so far was how fucking fantabulous the food was.
She was still pissed over what happened in that field though. Those stupid aliens knocked her into that messy crater, and then that boy threw some stupid rock in which hit her smack in the face. Oh, that had really pissed her off. Then that stupid explosion went off which killed the aliens and blew up the spaceship before she could take a spin in it.
Those aliens had been tough little shits though. How could that puny little explosion kill them? She let out an exasperated sigh and remembered how she had looked when she stood in front of the mirror at home. The thought of that made her snap her fork in two, “Oops.”
She knew those aliens had her key but she had searched that crater over all night. What the explosion didn’t do to their bodies she did to find that key. The had ripped them limb from limp trying to find her key. It was no where to be found, and it was a good thing there was no time table or she would be really pissed. As in so pissed she would tear this town to shreds to find it. Killing and maiming any who were unlucky enough to step foot in her Godly sight. If there was one thing she hated more than anything it was when time was against her and now she had plenty.
She spotted the young girl bringing over her cheesecake and her mouth watered at the thought of how good it was going to taste. The girl placed it down in front of her and thank god it had a fork already in it or she was going to twist the little bitches head off. She laughed out loud and dug in as all the men near her thought, “City girls.”
Martha Kent walked into the Talon to see that it was packed with people eating which made her smile in pleasure at being a part of such a successful business. She could not help but notice a new face in the usual crowd.
She noted that the young woman was very lovely. Long blonde curls, intense blue eyes, and a golden sheen to her skin. She watched the young woman throw her fork down and lick her fingers, “And no manners.”
Martha made her way to the counter for the blonde woman to walk up, and Martha watched how she was able to walk in such high heels without breaking her neck with such elegant grace. The young woman handed Martha her bill and Martha smiled, “Did you enjoy your cheesecake?”
Glory smiled and Martha approved of her perfect pearly whites, “It was the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating.”
Martha laughed at her gusto, “I’m so very happy you enjoyed it then.”
Glory handed Martha her debit card and Martha swiped it. She handed her the receipt to sign and saw her sign Glory Morningstar, and handed it back to her, “What a pretty name.”
“Thanks,” Glory said wondering who the hell this woman was, “Mom and Dad were very special.”
Martha smiled warmly, “Come back again.”
“For the cheesecake,” Glory called over her perfect shoulder, “You bet.”
Lana was making her way down the sidewalk when all of a sudden she stopped dead in her tracks muffling a scream. The blonde woman from the field was walking towards her on the sidewalk who Lionel had called Glorificus. Lana kept a straight face and the blonde just walked right by her and then, “Hey, don’t I know you?”
Lana held in her gasp and turned to see her looking right at her with bright blue eyes, “I don’t think so.”
Glorificus blinked, “Oh,” she said, “Well, anyway, do you know where I can find a jeweler?”
Lana wanted to scream no at the top of her lungs and run into traffic to get away from this thing but instead pointed down the street saying in a honey sweet tone, “It’s four stores down that way.”
Glorificus smiled, “Thanks, Peaches,” and walked on.
Lana just stood there taking deep breaths as she watched he walk into the store. She quickly turned around and made her way to the Talon as fast as she could to call Chloe.
Glory was looking at all the pretty sparklers and they were dazzling her eyes. Many of the selection would look so pretty on Dawnie. She walked around when an elderly man stepped out from behind a curtain smiling, “May I help you?”
She eyed the old man and praised her holy name that she would never grow old. She walked over to him and placed the meteor rock on the counter before him, “I want this made into a necklace, set in white gold.”
The man eyed the rock and then said, “This will cost a pretty penny.”
Glory leaned close to him, “Well, it’s a good thing I have lots of pretty pennies.”
The man backed away not liking this arrogant young woman to be in his personal space. Glory smiled to herself. She always did have some serious boundary issues.
“Here is my number,” she said, “Call when its ready.”
The man nodded and Glory was gone before he could turn around and give her a business card. He looked around the shop and muttered, “Young people.”
Lana did not even take the time to say hello to Mrs. Kent. She just ran through the Talon and up the stairs as if the Spanish Inquisition was hot on her heels. It must have been un-telling how many people she pushed out of her way to get to those stairs. She ran into her loft and slammed the door closed locking it behind her.
She took several deep breaths and picked up her phone calling Chloe. The phone rang a few times and finally a voice said, “Hello?”
“Chloe,” Lana said out of breath as she paced over to the bed to sit down.
“Lana, what’s wrong,” she asked with concern in her voice.
“Do you remember the blonde chick from the field I told you about,” she asked.
“Of course,” Chloe said, “My favorite part was when she was blown to bits with the rest of the aliens.”
“Wrong,” Lana said, “She just stopped me out on the street asking for directions to the jeweler.”
“Oh my god,” Chloe said, “Let me call Clark.”
“Ok,” Lana said while watching the door expecting the bitch to knock it in, “Call me back.”
“Love you,” Chloe said and Lana told her she loved her to.
Clark was about to head out to the barn to work on some chores when the phone suddenly rang. He walked over and picked it up, “Hello?”
“Clark,” Chloe said trying to sound calm, “Meet me over at Lana’s in ten.”
“What’s wrong,” he asked sounding scared, “Is everything ok?”
“The blonde chick from Lander’s Field just stopped Lana on the street asking for a jeweler,” she told him.
Clark could not believe what he was hearing. He had thrown in that meteor rock. She should have been dead like the other two were. Unless she was something entirely different. What had Lionel called her again? The Evil One?
“Clark,” Chloe asked, “Are you still there?”
“Yes,” Clark said snapping back to reality, “I’ll be there in a flash.”
“Ok,” Chloe said picking up her keys, “See you in a few then.”
Clark said bye and hung up the phone. He left a note for his dad and sped out of the house towards the Talon.
Lana was at her counter crushing some herbs she dug out of her suitcases to cook up a nifty protection spell for the Loft. She was so busy concentrating on the magic she did not hear Clark knock on the door. When he did not hear her answer, he broke the lock and opened the door which made her spin around screaming throwing the pestle at him.
He caught it in his hand as she put a hand over her heart screaming, “You scared the hell out of me!”
“Sorry,” Clark said holding the pestle, “I knocked and you didn’t answer.”
“Oh,” Lana said taking the pestle back from him, “Sorry, I didn’t hear you.”
“What are you doing,” he asked looking over her smelly herbs and weird things in jars.
“A protection spell,” she said and then looked around, “Where’s Chloe?”
“On her way,” Clark said, “I run really fast.”
“Oh yeah,” Lana said adding some blind worms sting, “She just walked right up to me and asked where the jeweler was.”
Clark nodded, “And she did not remember you?”
“No,” Lana said, “Unless she wanted me to let my guard down.”
“This is so weird,” Clark said, “The meteor rock should have weakened her enough for the blast to kill her.”
“So the rocks are poisonous to your people,” Lana asked, “And you?”
Clark nodded, “Yes.”
“Clark,” Lana said while crushing some amber, “She rode in on a fire breathing dragon. She didn’t come from the ship.”
“You think she’s something different,” Clark asked.
“Lionel called her Glorificus,” she said, “And that she had disciples.”
“He also called her the Evil One,” he said.
“Lionel said that we needed to destroy her vessel,” she said as she added the amber to the pot, “And we destroyed the ship.”
“That did not seem to stop her,” Clark said as Lana asked, “What did she mean by key?”
Clark decided to keep that to himself, “I’m not sure.”
He figured that she meant his octagonal key because that was the only key he or the aliens knew of. After all, she was kicking some serious alien ass trying to get at it. So she had to mean “his” key.
Lana snapped her fingers in front of his face which brought him out of his thoughts, “Sorry ,” he said just as Chloe came running in with a can of pepper spray ready to fire.
Clark could not help but laugh. The two of them had magical powers and Lana had thrown a pestle at him and Chloe had pepper spray. This was just too funny he had to laugh. The two of them would never change and he was glad of it.
They each spent the next thirty-minutes filling in Chloe on all the information they had except for Clark telling either of them about the key. He did not know if Chloe knew anything about it and is she did she didn’t let on that she did.
The three of them came to the conclusion that they need to find this Glorificus and find out what the hell she was up to. They needed to figure out what the hell she was and why the hell she was in Smallville. As if the meteor freaks and the evil aliens were not bad enough now they had some blonde chick and a dragon to deal with.
Clark got off the phone with Ben. The two of them were going to hang out at the Talon tonight. He sat down at the dinner table and decided that he needed to talk to his parents about what happened the day of the meteor shower. He did not want either of them to come face to face with this Glorificus.
Martha sat dinner on the table and Jonathan said the usual prayer, and the two men dug in. Martha was studying her son and knew that he really liked Ben. She decided that Clark would tell her in his own time, even though she was mother and knew everything.
Clark put his fork down, “I need to tell you all some things.”
Both of them looked up and Jonathan asked, “Tell us what son?”
“About what happened the day of the second meteor shower,” he told them.
Martha and Jonathan listened to what he was telling them with intense eyes and a nod every now then. Jonathan snorted when Clark told them about the big fire breathing dragon. It was not until he described this Glorificus that Martha buzzed in and Clark asked, “What?”
“It’s probably nothing,” she said, “But there was a young woman in the Talon today that looked and dressed exactly how you describe this Glorificus.”
“Did she threaten you,” Clark asked.
“No, nothing like that,” Martha said waving her hand, “She did have a nice bill though.”
Jonathan snorted and Clark just looked at her as she counted off the number of deserts this chick had and he coughed, “Mom?”
“Oh,” she said, “Anyway when she paid for it all she signed her name as Glory Morningstar.”
That sent a little siren off in Clark’s head, “Glorificus, Glory?”
“It might be her,” Martha said, “But if she is as strong as you say, you need to be careful baby.”
Clark nodded, “I’ll have Chloe search her in her database.”
He got up to leave and Jonathan could not help himself, “A dragon, Clark?”
“She flew in on a huge fire breathing black dragon that blew up Lex’s pretty car,” he told them.
“And the two aliens and the ship are gone,” he asked.
“Yes,” he said, “Lana and Lionel blew them up when I threw in the Kryptonite.”
“Well,” Martha said wonderingly, “No more threat from them then.”
“Lionel was terrified of this woman mom,” Clark told her, “He called her the “Evil One” as in big capital letters.”
“How would Lionel know this,” Jonathan inquired.
“He was affected by one of the stones,” Clark answered, “They made him an oracle for Kryptonian knowledge.”
“Does he know your secret,” The both of them asked in horror.
“No,” Clark said, “At least I don’t think so.”
Before the two of them could ask another question Clark quickly said, “I’m going to go give Chloe this information.”
He told them that he loved them and he was gone before either could say a word. The two of them just looked at each other and Martha looked over at her husband, “Where is the key Jonathan?”
“Clark wouldn’t tell me,” he told her looking back at his newspaper.
She nodded and bit into her fried chicken. She really hoped that Clark had a great time with Ben.
Chloe typed in the name that Clark had given her and now the both of them waited for the results to pop up. Chloe thought the name sounded pretty and kind of scary at the same time. Glory Morningstar was not a normal name. Chloe remembered from Sunday school her mom use to take her to when she was really little that the Christian god was called the Morningstar.
She told Clark that and he laughed, “To be named after a god is kind of cool.”
“I guess so,” Chloe said, “And Lionel called her the Evil One.”
“What are you getting at Chloe,” Clark asked her seeing the look on her face, “Do you think she’s the devil.”
Chloe smirked, “I think she’s something scarier than that.”
Clark nodded, “What do you got?”
Chloe scrolled down the screen and her eyes widened, “She owned a mansion in New York, shops at only the big name designers, and owned a penthouse in Sunndydale California.”
“What’s the last thing purchased on the list,” he asked her.
“The Talon,” she said.
“Did she purchase a house here in Smallville,” he asked.
She scanned it over again, “No.”
Clark rolled his eyes and sat on her bed, “Don’t you have a date Clark?”
Clark looked at his watch and kissed her on the forehead and dashed out of there in a whirlwind of hurry. Chloe just rolled her eyes and Called Lana to fill her in.
Ben was sitting at a table looking at his watch wondering if he had been stood up again. Now, this, was a normal pattern in his life. He meets someone he has a lot in common with, and when they decide to go on a date they stand him up. Maybe he really should just give up on having any relationship at all. After all its not like he was going to be around long enough to enjoy it for long anyway.
He rolled his eyes shaking his head and stood up only to see Clark run in looking really guilty. Ben snorted and sat back down wondering what excuse he was going to get.
Clark sat down across from him and apologized, “I am so sorry,” he said, “I was at my friend Chloe’s looking up some information online about houses and lost the track of time.”
Ben was stunned. Clark was being totally honest with him. He just shook his head. Maybe there was hope for him and his love life after all.
He smiled warmly across the table at Clark and told him not to worry about it. He, however, did not tell Clark the wait had been worth his honest excuse for being late. Usually he got some of the dumbest excuses ever, like my dog gets lonely or I had a vampire to bang, I mean nail, stake!
Clark did not know how to break the silence so he just asked, “How was your day?”
Ben really wanted to rant. He wanted to tell Clark how he had woken up in break my fucking neck heels and the ugliest dress ever. He wanted to tell him how fucked up his existence was and for Clark to just hug him and tell him he would punch his evil sisters lights out permanently. Glory was all the family he had, and he wanted her to understand how he felt being pulled into all of this cosmic bullshit, but instead he reached across the table and put his hand on Clark’s, “It been good.”
Clark narrowed his eyes, “You’re words don’t match the look in your eyes.”
Ben blinked and thought, “Is he a psychic?”
Clark squeezed his big hand, “Want to go somewhere quiet and just talk?”
Ben could not help but think that Clark was too kind for his own good, and that he was just too good to be true. Did he really want to do this or did Clark just feel sorry for him for some reason? Wait! Clark did not even know him to feel sorry for him. He did not want Clark to ever see or know this side of him. His dark side had to stay buried from Clark.
“Wow,” Clark said, “You must be a really deep person because you get stuck in your head almost as much as I do.”
Ben laughed, “Where can we go that’s quiet.”
Clark thought about it for a few minutes and finally said, “We can go to the park, or we can go to Crater Lake.”
“Crater Lake,” Ben asked looking interested, “Let’s go there.”
Clark smiled, “It’s my favorite place to go to get away from everything Smallville.”
Ben nodded his head in understanding. The only problem was he had no where to go to escape his problem. It was always tagging along deep inside of him slumbering like a sleeping dragon just daring someone to wake it up.
It was warm out and a light mist settled on the water’s surface. Ben walked out on the pier with Clark to look out across the lake at how beautiful and quiet it was here. He realized that Clark was holding his hand, and that made him feel warm.
Clark released his hand to sit down at the edge to take his shoes and socks off. Ben watched him do this and sat down to do the same next to him. The both of them just sat there in the silence of the night surrounding them as they soaked their feet in the warm surface water. Clark reached over and took Ben’s hand again which made Ben smile at him, “Thank you for this, Clark.”
“You’re welcome,” Clark told him and squeezed his hand gently, “Do you like it here in Smallville?”
Ben nodded his head, “I arrived here on the day of the meteor shower and with all the injuries they hired me immediately,” he told him, “My name was being shouted all day.”
Clark listened intently realizing that this Glory flew in the same day on her dragon. Clark decided to ask him a personal question, “Where did you move here from?”
“California,” Ben told him, “From this little town called Sunnydale.”
Clark hid the shock expression that was about to cross his face and quickly pretended he had an eyelash. Ben laughed at him while he played with his eye. Clark finally got his feelings under control after a few minutes of dramatized humor, “Why move here?”
Ben looked out across the still water for a moment and Clark nudged his leg with a wet foot, “This is my childhood home.”
“Really,” Clark asked, “We’re you here during the first meteor shower?”
Ben nodded, “I was ten when the meteor shower hit the first time.”
“I was five,’ Clark told him.
“My parents were driving to pick me up at my grandmothers when their car was struck by an oncoming meteor,” he told him, “My grandmother became blind the second a bright flash went off when a meteor struck outside the house.”
Clark asked him, “Was her name Cassandra Carver?”
“How did you know,” Ben asked and then realized, “Oh yeah, small town.”
“I read to her at the home for the elderly,” Clark told him, “My freshman year in high school. They said she could read the future.”
Ben smiled hiding his sadness, “I was sent to foster care because the state saw her unfit to care for me,” Ben said, “Plus, when one rambles on about being able to see the future people tend to look at you funny.”
Ben left out the part where his grandmother had broken down when she saw his future. He also left out the part where she tried to kill him by trying to strangle him at fifteen when he came to visit her at the home for a nurse to walk in to save him. He seemed to have a habit of people trying to strangle or suffocate him.
Clark watched as he got lost in his thoughts again, “She read my future once,” he said and Ben snapped back to reality, “She saw me helping people.”
Ben nodded and Clark went on, “The scariest vision she had was when I was in this graveyard surrounded by endless graves. It was raining heavily and thunder and lightning was crashing all around me. All my loved ones were gone, and I was all alone in the world.”
You sound like you saw what Granny was seeing,” Ben told him.
Clark nodded, “It was the scariest feeling I ever had,” he said, “To wind up being left all alone.”
Ben pulled Clark closer to him and Clark blushed as Ben held him, “You have two wonderful parents who love you more than anything Clark,” he told him, “And friends who love you and are there for you.”
Clark whispered, “I’m sorry about your parents, Ben.”
“Its ok Clark,” Ben said, “They loved me and I knew that.”
“You must have been so lonely,” Clark mentioned.
Ben nodded, “I have my sister who is never around.”
“Where was your sister the day of the shower,” Clark asked.
“Fuck,” Ben screamed to himself. Why the hell was he pouring his soul out to this farm boy? He knew why. Clark was honest, kind, heartfelt, and knew how to listen without judging or changing the subject, “She was at college in Miami.”
“Oh,” Clark said, “So she’s older then.”
“Older than this planet,” Ben thought as he told Clark that yes she was older than him by many years. Clark had asked him how much older and he told him that she was thirty-one.
Clark looked at his watch to see that it was going on Ten. He moved to stand up only to lose his balance, and fell into the water with a surprised yelp. He came up to the surface spitting a stream of water out of his mouth.
Ben looked confused and then laughed as Clark splashed at him. Ben tried to get up but Clark proved to be too fast for him and he went in yelling. He came up splashing and pounced on Clark pushing his head under the water, and the two of them wound up having a major water fight.
As the two young men fought with each other and laughing, they unaware that they were being watched by someone who was really pissed. This person had just broken out of Belle Reve and wanted revenge on the one who put him there. The man smiled. What better way to get at Kent than to kidnap his boyfriend.
“Oh this is going to be such fun,” the man thought, “I’m going to get you Kent, starting with you boyfriend.”
Clark drove Ben back to the Talon where his sister’s car was parked next to the alley. Clark parked his truck and the two of them sat in comfortable silence when Ben said, “Sis is going to kill me if I ruin her seats.”
Clark laughed, “My parents will kill me so I want white roses on my casket.”
Ben looked at him and pushed the tears away, “I’m so happy you’re not dead Clark.”
“Really,” Clark asked jokingly.
“Of course,” Ben said pulling him close, “Or I would not be able to do this,” and he kissed him.
Clark was shocked at first by the kiss and then closed his eyes following Ben’s motions. The two wrapped their arms around each other and Ben gasped when Clark attacked his neck. Clark’s cock jumped at the sound Ben had made and felt like he was going to explode when Ben suddenly pulled away saying softly, “Goodnight Clark.”
Clark sat back in his seat and rasped, “Night.”
“I’ll call you tomorrow,” Ben said opening his door to get out.
“Ok,” Clark said while smiling dreamily, “Night.”
Ben grinned and Clark grinned goofily. Ben got out closing the door behind him and watched Clark drive off in a happy daze. He felt happy. For the first time in a long time Ben actually felt happy.
He jogged over to his sister’s car and was about to unlock it when he heard a soft, “Help me.”
He looked over and ran across the street to the alley standing on the sidewalk under the light, “Is someone there?”
“Help me,” the voice said again and it sounded like it was in a lot of pain. Ben squinted into the darkness and he slowly walked into the alley.
The man materialized behind Ben and smacked him across the back of the head with a wooden bat. Ben saw stars and swayed on his feet falling to the pavement in a grunt.
The man smiled, “That’ll teach you to stay in the light.”
He dragged Ben by the feet from the alley over to the hellfire red sports car. The man got the keys and popped open the trunk to deposit Ben, “Now you won’t get your sis’s seats wet.”
He slammed the trunk closed and got behind the wheel. He inserted the key and the engine roared to life. The sound system blasted, “Highway to Hell,” as he drove off into the night.
