chapter 5

Fran drinks her third cup of coffee during the day. She needs to get that groggy feeling out of her body. She needs to get any feeling out of her body at this moment. Being so close to Mr. Sheffield didn’t really help. What did that man do to her? He was always the strongest one when it came to men. Okay, with Danny she hadn’t always been that strong but that had nothing to do with him. She never really loved him. Thinking clearly now she probably never really loved anyone. No guy ever made her feel like Mr. Sheffield does. She just had the urge to touch him every single second. She could just get lost in his eyes and smile. She had become to know him so well. The way he uses his fork at breakfast, the way he walks the stairs, the way some words come out of him with that adorable accent. She could just shiver from the most ordinary things he did, just because it was him. And last night, the way he had kissed her was simply incredible. The passion unleashed within the both of them was more than she had ever dreamed of. She still felt a slight bruise in her back from the staircase but she cherished it as a pleasurable memory. She had expected him to withdraw a little after last night. But she was certain that it was real. This was not just a fling. Maxwell Sheffield wasn’t the guy to just fool around with the nanny. This morning when she looked at him she saw a man in love. Uncertain, afraid but in love and she was determent to bring that love to the surface. She just had a taste of him and she was dying to get a real bite.

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Fran couldn’t stand to keep the kids inside so she arranged a picnic with the entire family in Central Park. She just hadn’t invited Mr. Sheffield yet.

Knock, knock Maxwell looks at the door. Before he can answer the knock she already barges in. “Mr. Sheffield” she starts again. She is wearing jeans and a pink shirt.

“Miss Fine, didn’t you wear something else this morning?” he takes of his glasses and takes a better look. “I don’t get to see you in jeans very often”.

Fran smiles broadly and turn around. “Ya like?”

Maxwell can’t hide his appreciation “I must admit you look simply adorable in it. Is it the spring that has gotten into you?”

“Yeah kinda” she plops down on his desk and like always ignoring the files laying there.

“Miss Fine, you’re sitting on my contracts” he says with in a annoyed voice. He often uses this voice without even meaning it. All right, she did get on his nerves many times when she messed up his business deals but he never managed to stay angry with her for long. How could he? Whatever she did he always forgave her in the end but getting mad at her from time to time kept him sane. It was good to gain some space and room to breathe for a little while. Secretly he usually looked forward to making up with her as well. The annoyance about little things was just a game they always played.

“Just keeping them warm” Fran replies. Loving the little game they always play. She knows Mr. Sheffield’s little annoyances aren’t genuine and she loves playing with it.

“All right Miss Fine, did you just come in to chat? I am awfully busy you know.” Maxwell pulls the files from underneath her and rearranges them, pretending to be busy like hell.

“Ah come on! It’s a Sunday. The sun is shining. You cannot lock yourself in your office the whole day. The kids want to spend some time with you as well”. While talking she reaches out to fix his tie, which is actually hanging fine but it was a simple and delicious excuse to touch him a little.

“The children huh..?” he stammers at her touch. “What did you have in mind then?”

“Well…” Fran hops off his desk and opens the French doors to the terrace. “Niles has packed everything for a family picnic so it would be nice if you could come along.”

Maxwell looks at her spreading her arms and twirling around in the sunlight. “The weather is so gorgeous today. The kids really want to spend this day with you”.

Maxwell stands up and walks towards the terrace. Feeling the sunbeams touching his fa“Hmm“Hmmm, you are right Miss Fine. It is a lovely day.” He puts his hands in his pockets as he stands next to her. With a big smile he looks at her “And how could I deny the children?”

Fran looks excited. “Great! We’ll be leaving in half an hour.” She puts her hands on both sides of his jacket, tracing its lining. “Don’t forget to wear something casual. The kids always loooove to see you casual.” She winks and walks off, swaying her hips like always. Leaving Maxwell to stare at her
