to? This one’s dedicated to my
reviewers!!!
Disclaimer:style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Guess what!
I have a big surprise for you! I
still don’t own Stargate SG-1!
A/N:style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Sorry it’s so late, but my laptop crashed on
me. I had to get me a new computer, unfortunately
it’s a PC and not exactly portable. Aren’t
you glad I have a removable hard-drive to store files on?style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Otherwise, you wouldn’t be reading this right
now, I’d be re-writing the chapter.
Chapter five
text-autospace:none'>“Jack!—“
Daniel started to scream at him before he was cut off by a bullet flying
past his head.
“Good morning,
sunshine.” Jack called down to the now
wide awake Nadine.
“Did you just try to
shoot me?” She called back up to him,
still pointing her gun at the top of the cliff.
“No, as a matter of fact
I just wanted to wake you up to inquire as to whether or not it’s getting a bit
toasty down there?” Jack replied a tad
sarcastically.
Nadine stared up at Jack
more then confused. “Wha—class=GramE>“ She then noticed the red glow against the rock face.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Looking to her left she saw a reason to have
a bit of concern.
Scrambling to her knees
as quickly as she could manage, she began rifling through the scattered and
broken supplies.
“What the hell are you
doing? Start climbing!”style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Jack ordered down at her.
of rope over her shoulder. “What else do
we need?” she called up.
“YOU!style='font-family:Tahoma'> Now get
your ass up here!”
“The Naquada generator,
but it’s too heavy to carry. You’ll have
to leave it.” Carter informed her.
“The hell I do.” Nadine
muttered under her breath. Looking about
she located the generator. Un-slinging
the rope from her shoulder, she took an end and started to tie it around the
generator.
“You just couldn’t keep
your mouth shut, could you?” Jack asked
Sam.
Theor gor grimaced,
“Sorry, sir.”
“Leave it!”style='mso-spacerun:yes'> an>Dan>Daniel called down to Nadine.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> “It isn’t worth it!”
“Alright…”style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Nadine said, talking to herself, completely
blocking out the voices from above. She
glanced up, the lava was getting close now.
Grabbing a utility vest,
she put it on, before grabbing some of the rope.
Pulling on the rope, she had
a hard time just pulling it across the rocky ground.
“Okay, okay, okay…”style='mso-spacerun:yes'> She scanned the rock face for any sturdy
ledges.
Gritting her teeth, she
stood, favoring one leg.
Gripping the rope firmly
in one hand, she started to climb, albeit slowly.
The lava was growing
closer and closer, but she was high enough up now that it shouldn’t touch
her. Next to her head, there was a small
ledge jutting out. She threw the rope
over it and starting to pull, using it as leverage.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Gradually the generator began to lift from
the ground.
The lava flow had nearly
reached the generator and was beginning to pick up speed.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> With more urgency, she pulled harder,
ignoring the pain her arm.
Lava began to pass
underneath the Naquada generatspanspan style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Nadine
paused to rest. She had no idea what to
do next. She couldn’t let go of the
rope, but she very well couldn’t stay there like that for long.
text-autospace:none'>“Alright,” she called
up. “I’m open to any ideas.”
“I’m coming down.”style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Jack announced to her.
A tremor passed through
the earth.
Nadine’s grip on the rope
slipped a bit. Then the ledge began to
shift.
“Uh-oh…”style='mso-spacerun:yes'> She murmured.
Jack had begun descending
the cliff face.
“Let go of the generator
and grab hold of the cliff.” He told
her.
“No.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> We need it as well as the rope.”
The ledge shifted more.
“Listen to me, the
generators lost no matter what. There’s
nothing you can do to save it, so save yourself.”
Nadine was beginning to
tire, either the ledge would give out or her arms would.
Jack continued talking to
her as he descended. “You tried your
best; it’s not your fault we can’t save it.
No ones going to blame you.”
The ledge was nearly
gone.
“Let go of the
rope!” Jack ordered her.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> “Let it go!”
From above, Daniel had a
feeling Jack wasn’t talking about the rope anymore.
“It isn’t your
fault! You tried!”style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Then, the ledge broke free.
The generator was first
to fall into the lava floplasplashing the molten rock.
Nadine, out of luck,
managed to grab hold of the rock face before following the generator.
“Hang on; I’m coming to
get you.” Jack told her.
Nadine shook her
head. “It’s alright, I can climb up.”
~*~
It took her awhile, but
eventually, both she and the Colonel were once again on flat ground.
“Where are you
hurt?” He immediately asked.
“I’m not.”
“Oh for
cryin’ out loud. I saw the way you landed back
there.”
“I’ll be class=GramE>fine, we still need to figure out how to get out of here.”
“She’s right, sir.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> We can’t breathe this sulfur much
longer.” Carter interjected.
“Alright, if we combine
our strength, could we lift it?” Jack
asked.
“No,
sir.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Even if we could, we still have no way to
dial out.”
“Now’s
the time for one of your brilliant plans, Carter.”style='font-family:Tahoma'>
“I’m sorry,
sir, but I just don’t see how we’re going to get out of this one.”
“Well, I guess at least
it’ll be quick and painless.” Daniel
said.
“Isn’t that class=GramE>comforting.” Retorted Jack.
“O’Neill, I too see no
solution to our problem. But, the
poisonous fumes will not kill me. My
symbiote sustains me.” Teal’c informed
the Colonel.
~*~
“Carter, try dialing out
again.” A groggy
sounding Jack said.
“Yes,
sir.”style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Carter staggered to her feet and glanced
around for the DHD. “Sir, where’d we put
it?”
“Do neither of you
remember? The DHD had been
destroyed.” Teal’c reminded them.
“No, I don’t
remember.” Jack murmured.
SG-1, excluding Teal’c,
was fully suffering the affects of the Hydrogen Sulfide.
None of them remembered
much after that, except Teal’c that is.
