Summary: 11-year old Don sells his brother.
Author's Notes: I really needed to write this one. Most of the Don/Charlie childhood FFs deal with Don being so nice and friendly. I wanted a bad Don. A Don who doesn’t like his brother, who doesn’t like being the second son. He was first after all! So, kind of angsty, yeah. Nevertheless enjoy!

“Where are we going, Donny?”

Don doesn’t look back, he just drags his little brother after him, his hand firmly wrapped around Charlie’s.

“I’ve told you before. It’s a surprise.”

Don turns around a corner, then comes to halt suddenly. He drops Charlie’s hand at once. They are right in front of the small baseball stadium near their house.

“You will teach me, Donny? Really? You will teach me how to play baseball?” Charlie’s face lightens up, then he looks around. “But where is the bat and the glove and the ball?”

“Charlie, shut up!”, Don shouts all of a sudden causing Charlie to flinch fearfully. Don is nervous and tensed, and this state increases even more when he hears distant footsteps. “Don’t move!”, he orders Charlie, after that he walks towards the approaching sound of steps.

Ricky appears, five of his guys behind him.

“Don, cool! You showed up! Got the nerd with you?”

Don looks back and sees a terrified little Charlie just standing there, not moving an inch. Just like Don told him to.

“I told you not to call him like that. I though that was the deal.”, Don hisses threateningly, he is still taller than Ricky, he easily would be able to beat him up. Ricky looses his grin at once and starts rummaging in his jeans pocket, eventually pulling out two crumpled pieces of green paper.

“There you go. Twenty bucks.”, Ricky says while handing Don the dollar bills.

Don stuffs his prize into his back pocket and walks away from the scene. After a few moments he can hear Charlie crying, shouting out Don’s name over and over again. Not turning once he keeps on walking, his thoughts drifting off to the Steve Miller Band Best Of album he is going to buy tomorrow.

Summary: Present day. Don wakes up next to Charlie.
Author's Notes: Follows “20 Bucks”.

Light shines through the curtains, golden rays of the sun hit Don’s eyes and he jerks slightly. He blinks several times before awakening completely from a rather strange dream. Noticing the sun is not the only one which warms him he looks to his left and finds Charlie lying curled up next to him, his head resting on Don’s shoulder. Don’s arm is slung around Charlie’s shoulders and this way they lie in bed.

Don smiles softly at his sleeping lover. He seizes his hand, lays it on his chest and squeezes it gently. Then he leads it to his lips and places a kiss there.

“Mornin’.”, Charlie mumbles sleepily eyes still closed. “Up already?”

Don is surprised he can understand every word Charlie said. Normally it is just some muttering and incoherent mumbling.

“No, sun has just risen. Woke me up. You can go back to sleep though if you like.”, Don whispers into Charlie’s black curls.

“Nah. Wanna be up when you are.”

Don chuckles silently. A slight ringing noise startles him but only for a moment. When he sees the silver chain around Charlie’s neck his eyes start to glitter with tears. He slowly lets go of Charlie’s hand to move it over to the little silver pendant. It is a custom product, specially made for Charlie two weeks ago as a surprise gift. Two letters intertwined, it almost looks like a small heart to Don. At this thought Don presses Charlie tightly against his body.

“Don?”, Charlie asks still half asleep.

Don doesn’t answer but kisses Charlie tenderly, then cheeks, then eyes then forehead. It is good that Charlie wears the necklace even when he sleeps, always near his heart. It is also Don’s heart. Heart of mine. So hurt, so bruised, so scared. Don promises he will try to make it all better.

Don’s fingers play with Charlie’s necklace for awhile before his eyelids become too heavy. Intertwined like the two letters the lovers fall asleep again.
