Chapter 39
Chapter 39: Life Together
Six months after Ariel got out of the hospital she and Donovan met up at her place to start looking for a place to live. It didn’t take every long for them to find a nice sized home with a medium yard, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large kitchen with island counter, a large living room, a den and office, along with a finished basement. They had even adopted a kitten and a puppy together. Donovan seemed to be fine with her double life and the danger she dealt with and Ariel seemed to be settling into this new place and her new relationship enough to tell Donovan about what the doctor told her two months after the fact. Donovan even seemed to handle that situation well. Ariel was quite grateful for that too.

So, when she came home one night to candlelight and a fire in the fireplace with a dinner for two picnic style on the floor she was surprised but interested.
“Welcome home, my lady,” Donovan said as he opened the door for Ariel and took her coat.
“I’m a lady now? I like this,” Ariel said stepping out of her shoes.
“You should. Why don’t you go take a relaxing bubble bath and change into something comfortable before we have dinner?” Donovan said leading her upstairs to their master bathroom.
“Do I smell that bad?” Ariel laughed.
“Of course not, love. I just want you relaxed when I take advantage of you tonight,” Donovan said as he started the bath water for her.
“Ohhh your going to take advantage of me are you? And what if I won’t let you?” She replied with a laugh as she got undressed.
“Ohhh I think you will because you love it when I do especially when I do things like this for you,” Donovan smiled as he helped her step into the now ready bath.
“That’s true. That’s so true. I do love when you do that,” she said as she lay back in the water to relax and Donovan left to go downstairs.
Needless to say later that night when Donovan asked her to marry him she said yes and let him take very good advantage of her at night long.
~ song ends~
A year later at around 11 PM at night in the spring a very tired and stressed Ariel flew to the backyard of the house and unlocked the backdoor and stepped into the house quietly as to not disturb Donovan who would be sleeping by now. Their black and white cat Tristan and their black and white rat terrier/Chihuahua mix Gizzy met her in the walkway.
“Oh, hey babies. Did daddy take good care of you while Mommy was gone saving the world?”

As she walked farther into the house something finally hit her she couldn’t hear Donovan in the house. She rushed up to their room and found the bed still made and a letter on her pillow. Her hands were shaking as she picked it up, opened it and read it threw. As she read the letter her heart slowly broke and she sat down on the bed heavily as Tristan and Gizzy came to sit on either side of her on the bed.
The letter read:
“Beautiful,
I know this will hurt but it won’t come as a surprise…not really. “No it doesn’t.” We’ve been having trouble and trying to hide from it. You in your work and me and my…well I don’t have to say it…you know. “Your affair with your new partner at work, Angela.” I did fight temptation Beautiful but one night a few months ago…I just couldn’t anymore. “I remember that night. You wouldn’t look me in the eye and you smelled different…like peaches and cream. Not paper, ink, and Phoenix Axe body soap and shampoo.” I’ve decided to let us go. You can have the house and do what you want with it. You can keep the ring because it is yours and have been for a year. “Great a house with so many mixed memories and a ring, great.” I do want visitation with our kids though. Tell them I love them and give them extra treats for me. “Visitation with a cat and dog, now were like every other modern couple, yeah.” I did and still do love you Ariel but I just can’t do this anymore. I can’t pretend nothing’s wrong and hide from the truth anymore. “Neither can I, Donny.” I am sorry temptation won out but maybe it was for the best. “Maybe it was?” I know you worry about not finding someone and this probably doesn’t help, but you will find someone…you’re an amazing person Beautiful. You’ll find someone as amazing as you…your dad did. “Yeah I know he did. Now just for me to do the same, no pressure.”
Donovan”
After she replaced the letter back in its envelope she put it in her end table drawer and went to get a bath ready for herself. As she lay in the bath trying to relax all she could think was, “this can’t be happening. I was going to tell him tonight that…I was…but I’m not now am I? Why do things like this always happen? Why?”
As she lay in the bath crying her mind kept flashing back to three months ago when one night as she lay in bed beside Donovan she felt life moving inside of her and knew she was pregnant right then without having anyone needing to tell her. Little had she known a month later Donovan would start cheating on her, but she would ignore it. Hoping when she did finally tell him the news would help them get over some if not all the issues. These thoughts led her to think of what had happened only a few hours ago.
A few hours ago…
“Ariel had just flown her way to the second floor of a ten floor building that was going up in flames to save three little girls caught in their room. She had just turned to leave the room with the girls in her arms when she heard a loud crack. When she looked up she saw a large beam falling towards them. Ariel quickly laid the girls on the floor and covered them with her body. The beam hit Ariel right in the abdomen she felt the pain and feared what it might mean but she had to focus on the girls at the moment. And that’s what she did. She threw the beam off and picked the children up again and flew them out of the building to safety. After returning the girls to their mother and got the mother’s thanks she flew off to check on herself.
When she got to a nearby hospital she changed from The Fírrine to Ariel and walked in asking to use their bathroom. She didn’t even walk into a stall because she knew…she knew she’d lost the child. She just sat on the floor of the bathroom and cried. When a nurse came in and asked her what was wrong. Ariel quickly explained she had just miscarried and needed help. So the nurse took her to see a doctor and a little while later she was sent home with medicines, a shrink’s name and strict instructions of how to handle the meds and what was going to happen now. She promised she would listen and talk to someone when she got home when she needed to and left the hospital and flew home.”
Having cried herself dry she got out of the bath and got ready for bed. Once in bed as if sensing her pain Tristan and Gizzy snuggled up to her and she let them, taking comfort from their unconditional love.
~song ends~
The next day the anger came at the situation and everything that had happened. She sold the house and packed her stuff up. She wrote a letter telling Donovan she was moving back to her apartment and he could have Tristan and Gizzy every other holiday and could baby sit them when she went on long ‘travels’ and sent it to Angela’s home knowing that was probably where he was. Then she spent the rest of the day moving herself and the animals out and to her apartment.
