Chapter 4

“Not exactly by myself,” he answered. “But, as to why I’m here, well, I’m here to meet some old friends, get in contact with some others, and to mourn one.”

Justin knew who he meant, and shook his head.

The original yellow Ranger, trini had been her name, had been killed in something as ignominious as a car accident, and to himself, Justin, even though he hadn’t ever known her, was extremely saddened at the thought of a Power Ranger dying that way. He hoped that if/and/or when he died, it would be doing something heroic, something Power Ranger like.

“Then, are you going into town any time soon?” Justin asked quietly. “Because Storm Blaster and me can take you.”

“Storm Blaster and I,” Billy corrected, and shook his head. “No, I’ve got too much to do . . .”

“What about food?” Justin asked. “You want we should bring you back something?”

“I’m afraid the currency I have in my possession doesn’t exactly have an exchange rate on Earth right now,” Billy smiled, and Justin wondered if a smile would ever reach his eyes, and shook his head.

“No problem,” Justin insisted, for some reason reluctant to leave the former Ranger on his own. “I’ll just run down to Angel Grove, grab something to eat, and if you need some help, I’m available. College is out for the week, and I’m ahead in most of my classes . . .” Justin realized he was babbling, and stopped, embarrassed. “Sorry,” he apologized, and Billy nodded.

“It’s okay,” he said. “I can actually can use the practice hearing English again. As you can guess, it’s not something that’s spoken all that often in space. And thank you. I just got back here not too long ago . . .” He frowned. “I must be more tired than I thought I was. I should have asked this first. Justin, how was it, exactly, that you knew someone was here? I thought I covered myself better than that.”

“You did, I guess, since no one else is here. And it was actually Storm Blaster,” Justin answered. “He alerted me to your presence.”

“So, you don’t think anyone else knows I’m here?” Billy’s face was an odd mixture of sadness, pain, and outright fear, and Justin shook his head.

“I don’t think so,” he said. “Most Rangers who knew of this place don’t ever come here. Too painful,” he looked down. “Me and the other Turbo Rangers were actually in this place when Divatox destroyed it. I was only eleven, and hadn’t been Blue Ranger for long, so it’s a little too painful for me to come back and see it in rubble. And then, after Zordon sacrificed himself, well, there wasn’t really a reason to come back,” he tilted his head in thought. “although, lightning Cruiser might alert TJ, like Storm Blaster did me, but I couldn’t tell you for sure.”

“Tell you what.” Billy said thoughtfully. “As you may have guessed, I’m not really ready to be seen yet, and as you observed, more than likely, my friends will be quite upset with my disappearance, and I’m not ready to discuss that either right now, with anyone.

“So, if you really want to help me, could you please keep my presence here to yourself? You can come back anytime you want, and I really can use some help around here, but I need some time to acclimate myself to Earth, the gravity, and the new oldness of it all, if that makes any sense, before I reveal my presence to those who need to know I’m here. To tell you the truth, I haven’t had a chance to look up my father yet,” he swallowed and turned away. “I don’t even know if he’s still alive, or what.”

“Okay, Billy,” Justin nodded gravely. “I can understand that, but you’ll need something to eat tonight, won’t you?”

“I have some supplements to get me through tonight. However, if you want to bring some pancakes and some syrup tomorrow morning, I won’t turn them down. It was hard to get pancakes in outer space.”

“I can bet it was. No Intergalactic hacienda o’ Flapjacks, I’m sure. Anyway, I‘ll bring them bright and early and we can get to work on this place,” Justin shook his head, and looked back through the door. “Man, I guess I’m going to have to go out the same way I came in . . .” He started to do his Morph pose, but Billy shook his head.

“Not necessarily,” he pulled up one of his sleeves, and just above his elbow, he wore a gold band with a circular device on it, and nodded at Justin’s Morpher. “I just need a minute to make adjustments . . .” he turned a small dial on the circle, and a moment later, nodded. “Okay, push the teleport button on your Morpher.”

“Are you serious!?” Justin exclaimed happily. “I haven’t teleported since . . .” he looked around. “Well, you get the picture.”

“Try it,” Billy nodded, and Justin did. A moment later, a blue flash zipped out the door, flew up through the hole in the Chamber, over the debris, and down the mountain, until he landed beside Storm Blaster.

Justin whooped, just as if he were an eleven year old boy again, and as he jumped into Storm Blaster, he grinned, widely.

“Man, Storm, you are seriously not going to believe this!” And for the return trip to Angel Grove, he told Storm Blaster all about his meeting with the original Blue Ranger, and made sure to have Storm Blaster let Lightning Cruiser know that everything was all right, and not to alert TJ. He and Justin had everything under control.
