Chapter 4

January 2006...Tupelo, Mississippi

On their first hunt together; Amy and Jen, along with Sam and Dean, were sent to Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Bobby had been called by a friend of his, a fellow hunter. The demon hunter had visited North Mississippi Medical Center, for a hunter related injury” and had heard of a little girl being seen by the psychologists at the hospitals mental heath facility at North Mississippi Behavioral Health Center.

The little girl, Eileen Grant, named for her grandmother, had claimed to have been visited by the boogeyman, off and on for the past couple of weeks. She was getting very little sleep and screamed constantly that the creature must have taken her mother, who had disappeared six months prior. What stuck out for Bobby's hunter friend, was the detailed description of the so called boogeyman. Add to that, the fact that it's eyes were pitch black and the hunter knew he would need to investigate.

Eileen, Ellie for short, was six years old and had been a very well adjusted child. At least until her mother disappeared on her morning jog. Ellie always did what she was told and had never even given her nine year old brother David any grief. After her mother vanished, in what the police believed was part of a string of abductions and murders, by a man still at large, Ellie sank into a dark depression. She had gotten a hold of a poem about the boogeyman at school and had seemed obsessed with figure of a child's worst nightmares ever since.

Bobby was sure it was something else, most likely a demon, in fact he hoped it was. He could find no way of getting rid of such a creature as the boogeyman, if it existed. There in lay the reason he sent four hunters at once. He hoped that the four of them could achieve something. Along with the information that the hunter already on the case, 58 year old William Diddley, had for them.

Bobby had said that William would insist that they call him Willie D for short. That had been the man's nick name for a very long time. Willie D would not be going along into the field, as it were. He said he was getting too old for it. However, he could be a great deal of help, doing research and providing the four novice hunters with supplies. If all else failed, Bobby would have to find something, anything that might be of help. Willie wasn't too worried, he even insisted upon having a whiskey with the young hunters, post hunt.

Mitch Grant was Eileen's father and he was quite concerned. He feared he was losing his daughter and he could not bare the thought of that, after losing his wife Barbara Ann. In fact, he was so desperate to save his daughter, that when Willie came to tell him about the darkness that the world had to offer, he listened. Well, after Willie had made three attempts anyway. He had even followed Mitch to his home. When Mitch's son, David Lee, finally admitted to hearing a strange voice, on one of the nights Ellie was screaming and he had gotten to her room first. He also said that he may have seen a shadow in her room. At that point, Mitch was ready to hear anything on what could be done to help his family.

Legend of The Boogie Man (a poem)

Haunting…not a description lies
Underneath darkness and your sleeping eyes
But a hand under bed, a grab in the night
Inside of black, inside of delight.
A ghost-man’s whisper, fainting slight…
You feel his breath on your skin so white
You feel his death and slender bite
His tongue searching your breast, your lips,
your chest…unable to rest
Fearing quietly slither this creature of life.
In his face is a hollow, a skeleton white…
is a rotten monster under your bed, he is dead
back to life.
He is touching your eyes and sticking hands
in your mouth
He is ribs and he’s bones, and his teeth and
his white shine
Is glowing under moon eerie light.
Your feet are hanging over the end. And the
blanket has lost it’s trimmed safety net
And he can touch you there. And touch you
He can crawl onto them and smother you
He is glue, he is a gel of bones slithering, a
skeleton shivering
As his laugh insane is seething, screaming,
GOT YOU!
Ripping, gripping, your blanket down
Your bare legs, your flesh, he is your gown.
He is sticking his bone skeletal fingers into
your thighs
And you feel this sticking and you look
in-between the slits of your eyes
You can’t scream you are being in his bone
white…bone white
He is the demon under your bed, in your
closet, in your head…
Crawling…your blanket is being thrown off,
Your flesh is cold…shivering…
You are his
You are his
You are his
You are no more…

"Jesus", Sam was bothered after reading the poem out loud, "where did Ellie even get a poem like this?"

"Kids these days", Dean huffed.

"Sheesh. No wonder Ellie is freaked", Jen added.

Amy was silent and Jen wondered why. She was even beginning to look as if she had seen a ghost. She sat near Willie D with her head down, watching her foot bounce as her legs were crossed. She absently fidgeted with two things that Jen knew she always wore around her neck. Finally, Jen really needed to know what was up.

"Amy? What's up, why are you so quiet?"

"What?" Amy looked up at Jen and stopped fidgeting. "Nothing, I'm fine. When do we do this thing?" She stood up and walked over to her hunter companions.

"Well, first we need to figure out what we are dealing with", Sam answered.

"Two of us should hit the hospital, while the other two go to Mitch's house. See if he'll allow someone to talk to his kids", Dean said.

"Well, we hear you two are the masters of disguise. So how about you guys head to the hospital and Amy and I will talk to Mitch and the kids", Jen offered.

"Huh." Sam looked impressed that Jen had given praise of their skills. He wondered what skills she and Amy possessed for Bobby to want them all together like this.

"Maybe one of us should spend the night at Mitch's", Amy finally spoke, "maybe something will reveal itself and we can end Ellie's torment."

"No matter what, we will be outside of that house tonight", Dean told Amy, "that way we can get in there in a hurry."

"I know. I would just feel so much better about it, if one of us was inside", Amy insisted.

"We'll see what we can do", Jen grabbed Amy's arm, so they could all go their separate ways.

Later that night Jen and Amy sat guard in Mitch's living room. Jen had fallen asleep during an infomercial for the magic bullet blender, but Amy refused to shut her eyes. The guys were outside, in the Impala, and made plans to take turns sleeping and watching the house through binoculars.

Sam hadn't gotten far with the psychologist at North Mississippi Medical Center. The doctor talked of institutionalizing little Eileen, if her, quote, "paranoid delusions" were not gotten under control with the help of medications. They said it was quite common for a child to invent things in their mind, when losing a loved one, but if she could not be convinced that it was all false, all in her mind, she would be hospitalized. However, Dean did find out about other patients in town having some "delusions" of their very own. That bit of information got Bobby's attention and now he was sure that his assumptions had been correct. They were dealing with a demon, an Agramon, a demon of fear.

The Agramon preyed on people who suffered losses. People that were open to his influence, such as children, the mentally ill and anyone who had irrational fears. The hunters would need to trick the demon into one of the many demon traps, that they had set up in Mitch's house and send it's ass back to hell with the Latin exorcism. There was just one problem, if Ellie or her brother or anyone in the house was afraid enough, the fear demon would become too strong to banish. The evil thing fed on your fears and became stronger for it.

Bobby had warned the hunters that the demon would show them all their worst childhood fears if they let it in their head. If they showed even the smallest amount of fear. He told them that as many of them as possible had to chant the exorcism and for that reason, Willie D would have to come out of retirement, at least for one night. Willie had asked Bobby, why he couldn't let an old black man, who had saved many white people by the way, live out the rest of his life quietly. Bobby reminded him, that he had been the one to make the call and then told him to stop his belly aching. Willie D did what he was told, and was now parked down the street and was patiently awaiting for a phone call from Sam or Dean. Dean had told Sam, that he wished that they would have been able to get a hold their dad. He knew he would be great in this situation.

Earlier that day; Amy had talked to young Eileen, while Jen talked to her brother, David Lee. Jen told David not to be afraid, because they would do whatever it took to stop this. Amy told Ellie that whatever she saw, it was not real, that it was a waking nightmare and that come hell or high water, her and her friends would end that nightmare. They both told the kids that no matter what they saw, it would not harm them if they faced it bravely, without fear.

***
Midnight.....

Jen was bolted awake by a little girls scream and was temporarily disoriented by her surroundings. She quickly righted herself as Amy yelped for her to follow her to Ellie Grant's bedroom. Amy was going to rush blindly into the child's room, without backup, when Jen gripped her arm and stopped her. She had her cell out and had quickly texted 911 to the boys outside, very quickly. Her years of typing had produced a handy talent.

"Wait Amy. Do not rush in there and do not go alone. We need the element of surprise here, and remember what Bobby said about all of us needing to be together", Jen told her.

"Daddy? Amy, Amy help me pleeeease!!" Ellie screeched out for Amy because she was the one who had talked to her, the one who had comforted her.

"No. Let me go. I'm going in there." Amy broke away from Jen's grip.

David ran out into the living room. "Jen come on, help my sister. My dad just went in there."

"Shiiit." Jen muttered, just as the guys came barreling into the house with Willie hot on their behinds.

"Let's go", Dean decided.

The hunters filed into Ellie's bedroom and Mitch had her in his arms. Her head was buried in his neck and he was staring at the demon with an intense amount of fear. Thankfully, the bastard was currently stuck in the demon trap at the foot of Ellie's bed. The hunters knew that wouldn't last long, if Ellie kept screaming and her and David's father stayed gripped with fear like that.

"I'll take her", Amy held out her arms and Mitch hesitated. "I will keep her safe, you have my word." Amy looked to her crowd of friends and then held her hand out for David to take it. She moved to a corner of the room and began to awkwardly lay salt, while she held Ellie in her arms. "David, stay close. This salt circle I am making will keep you safe."

"Mitch?...Mitch!!" Jen got his attention, as Willie D, Sam and Dean surrounded the fear demon. "Do not show that bastard any fear, or he has you. He will get free and we will not be able to stop him. Think of your family. Be strong."

"But it's the...it's the monster from under my bed", Mitch looked positively frightened.

"No it is not. Trust me, it's not. You think of your children, do you understand me? Look at them", Jen nodded to Mitch's kids,

"Mitch...look at them. Are you with us now?"

"You're damn right I am", Mitch stood up and squared his shoulders and put on a brave face.

"Good", Jen approved.

"Jen, get your ass over here!" Dean commanded.

Jen helped form a circle around Agramon and she and the others; Willie D, Sam, and Dean began to chant, as the demon smiled the wickedest of smiles. No doubt trying to show them all their worst fear.

"Deus, et Pater Domini nostri Jesu Christi, invoco nomen sanctum tuum, et clementian tuam supplex exposco. ut adversus hunc, et omnem immundum spiritum, qui vexat hoc plasma tuum. Mihi auxilium praestare igneris. Per eumdem Dominum."

The three young hunters and one seasoned pro chanted over and over, while the demon would writhe and then right himself, smiling wickedly once more.

Amy set Ellie down close to her, in the large circle of salt that she had made. Then she gently took her face in her hands. Ellie was shaking and whimpering with fear. "Ellie, listen to me", Amy spoke as calmly as she could, "do not be afraid. What you see, it is not real."

"He is right there. Right there", Ellie protested.

"No Ellie", David insisted, "I see something else."

"He's going to get us!" Ellie wailed.

Jen and the others continued to chant over and over, louder and louder. "Deus, et Pater Domini nostri Jesu Christi, invoco nomen sanctum tuum, et clementian tuam supplex exposco. ut adversus hunc, et omnem immundum spiritum, qui vexat hoc plasma tuum. Mihi auxilium praestare igneris. Per eumdem Dominum. "

"Ellie, look at me. He will not get you, not if you don't believe in him. You want him to leave, you want your family to be safe, don't you honey? They will stop him, they WILL...look at your brother, would he lie to you?" Amy tried to calm little Eileen.

"I promise I see something else Ellie. That proves it little sis, these people aren't lying. He is what they say he is and they are going to help us." David Lee reassured his little sister, even though his face betrayed his own fears.

David swallowed those fears with such bravery, that it pulled at Amy's heart strings. That and little Ellie, who all at once made a decision. A decision to stop being afraid. Amy held both of the children's hands and chanted along, as the other four hunters continued to chant until a cloud of smoke raised up into the markings on the ceiling and disappeared. The man that held the demon in his body, fell to the floor dead. Dean and Willie volunteered to get rid of the poor man's body.

An hour later, after Sam had given Mitch a copy of the Latin exorcism and instructed him to keep a demon trap here and there, underneath some rugs, Mitch was thanking him and all the other hunters for saving what was left of his family. He said what most other people said, that he could not believe such things existed. He said that they would probably move, but he would definitely set those demon traps. And in the mean time, his children were staying in his room. He also promised to call if there was ever another problem.

***
As night was steadily turning to day; Amy and Jen, along with Sam and Dean, were having that whiskey that Willie D had promised them all they would be having. They had all been invited back to Willie's house.

"Been awhile since I've gone on a hunt", Willie spoke to the youngsters, "and what a hunt it was." He raised his glass to his lips and took a drink. "So, what did you guys see? Share with the group."

"Not a damn thing dude. Just a demon wearing some poor sap", Dean insisted.

"Demon's are my worst fear", Jen let them know.

"And you face them anyway. That is really brave", Sam told her. Dean rolled his eyes at his brother.

"What about you Amy?" Dean wanted to know.

"Oh...um...a clown. Yea, I saw a clown. I hate those suckers." Amy lied through her teeth. She may never reveal the truth. That the bastard demon had shown her, her own child hood nightmare.

Dean laughed and smacked Sam in the chest. "I bet Sammy here saw the same thing. He's terrified of clowns. Looks like you two have something in common."

"Dean, shut up! I was like five years old okay. Give it a rest."

"Ohhh, that reminds me!" Dean got excited about something he had just recalled. "Amy, did you know you are the...oh, how did Bobby put it..the supreme president of hell?"

"What?" Amy was truly confused.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Jen wondered.

"Dean, you are an ass", Sam told his brother.

"Hey, Bobby said it."

"Bobby would never be such a shit." Amy was annoyed with Dean.

"He said and I quote; 'I don't want to fool around at a time like this, but when I found information on Agramon, I also found a demon called Amy.' Then he told me what he is and that he can make bargains for souls." Dean seemed amused and the look on Amy's face expressed the exact opposite.

"He?" Jen wondered.

"That's right, it's a he", Dean responded.

"Dude, you have no tact", Sam complained at his brother again.

"No, that's okay Sam. I know he is just giving me shit because he wants my body", Amy teased, "be careful what you wish for Dean. After all, I am the supreme president of hell and if you sleep with me, I may just take your soul."

"Not to mention, she's a dude", Willie D interjected.
