Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Clark walked to his desk connected to Lois’ in the Daily Planet basement. He gave her the coffee she wanted and then sat down heavily at his own. He just wanted to be back at the farm or out looking for Chloe but he couldn’t, he had work to do…His Daily Planet work but more importantly his Red Blue Blur duties.
He had to work if he was going to pay bills and buy necessities. So, he just focused on acting as if he was working on a story without one word to an apparently talkative today Lois. Lois had always annoyed him, but along the way he had come to care for as if she was annoying little sister even though she was supposed to be a few years older than him. He had always tried to get along with her because she was Chloe’s cousin and apparently the two were close and he didn’t want Chloe mad at him, ever for any reason. She was the only constant in his life besides his parents…or mom now.
“Hey Smallville?”
“What?” he asked coolly.
“You haven’t heard from Chloe have you?” Lois said trying to sound as if nothing was wrong, as if Chloe hadn’t been missing for the past few weeks after running off with a psycho-Kryptonian killer…well Lois only knew the psycho-killer part of the equation really, but anyway you looked at it, it was bad.
“No, why have you?” he perked up a bit with hope. Hoping that maybe just maybe one of Lois’ army contacts had found something to say where Chloe was.
“No, I wish I had. It would be better than this silence. I’ve asked my army pals to look into it and they can’t find a thing. I’m getting worried.”
“You should be,” Clark thought to himself, sick of it all himself.
“I’m worried too, but we’ll find her.” Clark said to try and reassure a trying-to-be-tough Lois while in the back of his mind he kept thinking, “When not if I find Chloe I’m going to give her such a verbal whooping…Oh, who are you to say you’ll do that Clark. If anyone can whoop anyone it will be her whooping you. I just want so bad to have her back. I know why she left, I really do, but I’m scared and it takes a lot to scare me. Oh, who are you kidding Clark it just takes one little blood Earth woman to make you scared and her name happens to be Chloe Sullivan.”
After this they both fell into silence. Both thinking about Chloe and trying to focus on work when it was so obvious they couldn’t.
The day went slow with both Lois and Clark editing stories they had been working on before and trying to keep themselves busy by not worrying when they were. By 11 pm Lois left for her apartment and to get a hold of one of her army pals who was supposed to be updating her.
Clark listened closely to make sure she was really leaving, he even made sure she got back to her apartment safely. Once he knew she was there he focused all his energy on trying to find Chloe when he wasn’t stopping the odd criminal in Metropolis during his patrols of the city as the Red Blue Blur.
By 3 or 4 am he gave up for the night and went home. He tried to sleep but the dream haunted him over and over again.
“What the Hell is going on with me!?” he yelled to the air but only a tilted head from Shelby as an answer.
This dream wasn’t a dream; it didn’t feel like a dream. This was something else and it was beginning to worry him. He had to get answers but how? Where?
Maybe he should try the Fortress…no that wasn’t any good. He’d have to figure it out on his own, but how?
This is how the weeks had been spent by Clark since Chloe disappeared and apparently this was how yet another week was going to be spent.
