BACKBEAT LOVE

Chapter 4

(Bogg and Olivia are still in the bed. They start to talk.)
Bogg: So have you've decided to stay until the 24th or are you two leaving tonight?
Olivia: I haven't decided yet.
Bogg: Well not to pressure you, but I'd like you both to stay until the 24th.
Olivia: No pressure?
Bogg: Well, I'm also thinking about Jeffrey, he seems to have found a friend.
Olivia: I know, it's nice to see Morgan happy for a change.
Bogg: No nightmares?
Olivia: No nightmares, which is very rare, but I think connecting with Jeffrey might be one of the reasons.
Bogg: Jeffrey use to have nightmares.
Olivia: Were they as bad as Morgan's?
Bogg: Not as bad.
Olivia: I think Morgan likes having someone her age to talk to, you know about being a voyager and history.
Bogg: They do have alot in common.
(Back with Jeffrey and Morgan. Morgan had gone into the bathroom to clean herself up, while Jeffrey dressed and then came back out and got dressed.)
Jeffrey: I don't think we should let Bogg and Olivia know.
Morgan: Are you kidding, she'd have a heart attack, she still thinks of me as a "kid".
Jeffrey: Yeah, Bogg still thinks of me as a "kid"
Morgan: She still calls me that and I'm 18.
Jeffrey: Bogg calls me that too, but I think old habits die hard.
Morgan: I'll tell Olivia when the right time comes.
(Jeffrey smiles)
Jeffrey: So what do you want to do now?
Morgan: How about we go sight seeing, there are a few places I haven't had a chance to see.
Jeffrey: As long as we don't stray too far, I'm not sure Bogg and Olivia would like it.
Morgan: Yeah, I can just hear her giving me the third degree.
(Jeffrey smiles)
Jeffrey: Come on.
(Morgan finished putting her shoes on and headed to the door, she opened it up and then was grabbed by someone, holding a gun. Jeffrey looks up from tying his shoes and recognizes who it is.)
Jeffrey: Drake!
(Jeffrey rushes to Morgan, but stops when he sees a gun in his hand pointing to Morgan's head.)
Drake: Hello Jeffrey, who's the girl?
Jeffrey: A friend, let go of her!
Drake: I don't think so, where's Bogg?
Jeffrey: I don't know.
Drake: Well how about we go find him?
Morgan struggles against Drakes tight grip around her body, his grip tighten even more with each passing minute.
Drake: Now, now, we don't want you to hurt yourself little girl.
Morgan: I'm not a little girl asshole.
(Morgan's hand finds his omni clipped to his belt)
(Drake holds up the gun to show Morgan and Jeffrey, he starts to press it against Morgan's body.)
Jeffrey: You will never get away with it.
Drake: Of course I will, once I finish you and Bogg with this, I will disappear and leave the gun and well they will think it was someone else who did it.
Morgan: Not if I can help it asshole!
(Morgan stomps on Drake's foot, grabs his omni off his belt. he let's go of her, aims for Jeffrey, Morgan gets in front of Jeffrey to push him out of the way, Drake aims and shoots as Morgan shields Jeffrey's body with hers, she falls forward, Jeffrey catches her. Drake tries to escape, but when he goes for his omni, it's gone, he drops the gun and runs out. Olivia and Bogg hear a loud noise and quickly get dressed, they rush to the room. Jeffrey is holding Morgan in his arms on the floor. He has his hand pressed against the back her shoulder. Blood is on his hand and clothes as he tries to stop the bleeding. Morgan slips Drake's omni in her pocket, she looks up at Jeffrey)
Morgan: He can't escape, his omni is....
(Morgan goes unconcious)
Jeffrey: Morgan?
(Jeffrey cradles Morgan)
Olivia: We need to call an ambulance.
Bogg: Jeffrey, don't worry she's going to be ok.
Jeffrey: It was Drake, he had a gun, he tried to kill me, Morgan she...
(Jeffrey couldn't continue)
Man: I already called one, it's on it's way.
Olivia: Thank you.
(The man leaves. 3 hours later. Bogg, Olivia and Jeffrey, (Jeffrey still has the blood all over his shirt) are at the hospital in the waiting room. A doctor comes out.)
Doctor: We removed the bullet, she was lucky, it had just missed an artery and the nerves.
Jeffrey: Is she gonna be ok?
Doctor: Yes, but she'll have to be in here for awhile.
Olivia: For how long?
Doctor: It depends on how long it takes, she is in no shape to travel.
Olivia: Can I see her?
Doctor: Sure, but she's sleeping, she's in room 203..
Olivia: Thanks.
(Olivia leaves)
Doctor: You did the right thing, when you put pressure on it, if you hadn't she would of lost alot more blood and she would of went into shock from the lost of blood.
Jeffrey: I learned it in school.
Bogg: So she's gonna be ok?
Doctor: If everything goes well and she doesn't get an infection or fever.
Jeffrey: Thanks doc.
(Once the doctor leaves Bogg and Jeffrey talk)
Jeffrey: It was Drake, he was here, he grabbed Morgan and had a gun on us, but why did he run and drop the gun instead of using the omni?
Bogg: What did Morgan say just before she went unconcious?
(Jeffrey thought for a moment)
Jeffrey: He can't escape, his omni is..
Jeffrey: Morgan must of took his omni off his belt when he was holding onto her, I bet it's in her jeans pocket still!
Bogg: Come on.
(Bogg and Jeffrey enter the hospital room, Morgan is hooked up to an IV and monitor. Olivia is holding her hand.)
Olivia: She's so still.
Bogg: She's just sleeping.
Jeffrey: It's all my fault.
Olivia: No it's not, you didnt' know Drake would be here, or that he would have a gun and try to kill you.
Jeffrey: She saved my life.
(Jeffrey fought back the tears that wanted to come)
Bogg: And you would of done the same thing if it was reversed.
Jeffrey: I would give my life for her.
Olivia: Just like she has done for you.
Bogg: Look kid, I mean Jeffrey, she's gonna be ok.
Jeffrey: Where is Morgan's clothes?
(Olivia points to the closet)
Bogg and Jeffrey go to the closet, they pull out her clothes, including the shirt with blood that is in a plastic bag. Jeffrey checks Morgan's left jean pocket and pulls out a silver omni)
Jeffrey: Found it.
(Jeffrey holds it up)
Olivia: That's Drake's omni.
Jeffrey: Morgan took it when he was holding onto her, that's why he couldn't use the omni to escape.
Olivia: Smart girl.
Bogg: Yeah, but he's gonna come back for it.
Jeffrey: And we will be ready for him, right Bogg?
Bogg: Right kid, I mean Jeffrey.
(Jeffrey hands the silver omni to Bogg.)
Jeffrey: You better hold onto it for now.
Bogg: Good idea.
Jeffrey: Is it ok if I visit with her for awhile?
Olivia: Sure, come on Bogg, we have some things to discuss.
(Bogg and Olivia leave. Jeffrey takes a chair and slides it next to the bed, he takes her hand and holds it gently, he presses it against his face gently.)
Jeffrey: That was smart, taking his omni so he couldn't escape. Don't worry Drake will pay for this.
(Morgan lays there still as Jeffrey gently squeezes her hand, still pressed against his face, he leans in and whispers in her ear)
Jeffrey: I love you Morgan.
(Jeffrey takes her hand from his face and lays his head on the bed, still holding her hand and falls asleep. Bogg and Olivia come back and see Jeffrey fast asleep, they don't bother to wake him, Olivia and Bogg find chairs to sit in. Olivia won't leave Morgan's side, she goes to the other side and tries to get comfortable in the chair, she lets her head rest on the bed. Bogg tries to get comfortable and finally after awhile, he falls asleep.)
