The next time he asked him was some sort of accident. Wilson had shown up at the weekly poker night, but apparently the other guys had cancelled, so playing wouldn’t have been much fun. He had wanted to leave right away, but couldn’t leave anymore when he had watched House for a minute, alone on the couch.

‘Well,’ Wilson muttered when he sat down next to him, knowing he shouldn’t, knowing he should’ve left some time ago. ‘Got any other plans?’
‘I never have.’
Wilson took a deep breath. ‘Then I suppose you have all the time in the world to explain me why you’ve said it.’
The tv was on, but all he heard was static.

House stared at the screen, his face turning blue and white whenever the colours on tv changed. Wilson couldn’t breathe, turned upside down by his emotions. He was wondering how Greg’s hair would feel on his fingertips. He bet it was incredibly soft.

‘James,’ he heard him say, somewhere far away, his eyes never leaving the screen, as if he was talking to someone in there. ‘I shouldn’t have said it.’
‘But did you mean it? Was that what you had ‘seen’ when you were half dead?’

Oh shit. Was that it? Was that it?

‘I shouldn’t have said it.’
‘Damn it, Greg, just tell me!’

For one second, Wilson saw House’s eyes fill with tears. But before one of them could fall, they were already gone.
‘I can’t,’ he said.
‘Because it would mean you’re human after all?’
‘You know me.’
‘I need to know what you meant.’
‘Whatever I meant, it doesn’t matter. Forget it, alright?’

Wilson stopped him when he was trying to walk out of it, jumping up and grabbing his shoulders to make him look at him.
‘It does matter,’ he tried, desperately.
‘Why, for God’s sake?’
‘I love you too.’
