Chapter 4

After the flame

The embers of passion had calmed to a flicker as Vincent and catherine woke up.

"Good Morning, my love. Are you alright?" she smiled still half asleep "I would be if I could wake up to your voice everyday." answered catherine

"I love you so much that sometimes I feel as though my heart would burst with all the emotions you evoke within me." said vincent, catherine turned over and laid her head on his chest and kissed his hand.

"That was the happiest night of my life, last night was beyond love." said catherine
This brought tears to vincent's eyes as again catherine started to kiss him softly and sweetly.
He welcomed the renewed passion.

Catherine smiled again and she honestly thought that she could not be any happier than she was right now.

"Hmmmm....I can feel your contentment, your peace, it's beautiful" said vincent

"Good Luck today, my love, I will be waiting for you tonight to come and tell me you have won." vincent said with pure sincerity

"That's what we are hoping for today, I have to get up, shower and get dressed" as she stretched

"Oh really, may I join you" said vincent chuckling

Catherine ran her finger down his neck and kept him guessing by not answering then looked up and said

"If you must"

"You cheeky little minx" vincent laughed as he chased her into the bathroom." she shrieked as he lifted her up and placed a kiss on her lips

They both cleaned each other sensually and ignited the flames of passion everytime catherine brushed her new favorite location

As they both got dressed, They both could not stop the happy smiles that came to their face every so often.

"Vincent, I love you so much, Your strength and courage lifts me up to a higher place" catherine said as she wrapped her arms around him

"And I love you more than life itself" replied vincent said as he returned her embrace

"Will you come to my chamber with me tonight? I want to hold you, love you, kiss you. We could read that book tonight."

"I would love to" answered catherine

"I shall see you tonight, my love, I must go before it gets too light"

Vincent let his hands linger with Catherine's and reluctantly returned to the basement and made his way back to the tunnels

He felt a new peace come over him. It wasn't what he thought, he had always worried about harming catherine with his desire for her. But she
had proved him wrong in his conclusion.

As he walked into Father's library he was in a daze.
"Vincent, are you ok?" asked Jacob smiling
"Father, I feel wonderful, last night was wonderful" replied vincent "I feel complete" it was the only way he could describe his feelings at
that point.

"Oh good.....good" replied jacob with an all-knowing smile

"Is catherine coming down to the tunnels tonight?" Jacob asked

"Yes she is" vincent looked at his father curiously "Why?"

"The children have decided to give a poetry evening as entertainment, tonight at 8pm" jacob answered

Vincent smiled at this "Don't tell me" he guessed "Jane austen's sense and sensibility" said vincent

"it seems you made an impression with reading that book" said jacob

Vincent heard a message on the pipes and then bid jacob good morning as he went to get the children for their class

He bumped into Mary on the way and she asked him how his night went

Vincent answered her with a big hug and a smile "Vincent, that'a wonderful" said mary

"Mary, I must go and prepare the children for their poetry evening." he said as he put her down

"Ok, vincent. See you soon" she said as he walked off to find the children.

Meanwhile......

"Mr Barrowman, Are we supposed to believe that you did not resent your wife for going to work?" catherine asked the defendant
"No, I did not resent my wife for going to work" he replied

"Really" she paused

"Your honour, I would like to present a statement from Mrs Barrowman at her interview with the nypd detective pradae"

the Judge nodded

Catherine proceeded to read from the statement

'I am Mrs barrowman, the statement I give is the truth'

There was no reaction from the defendant as catherine looked up

'I Carolin barrowman am married to Harry barrowman. Harry first started showing his controlling side when we had only been married a week.
He and I both agreed that when my son was in school full-time I would return to work full time. But whenever I got home from work, no cleaning had been done or I was expected to do the household chores after a hard day at work.
Mr barrowman started causing rows every morning protesting that my place was in the home, cooking and cleaning. He would tell me that I was worthless, a whore, a bitch.
I realised he had crushed my spirit, my self-belief but I made a choice to marry him, that was my choice, my ever-lasting guilt'
I came home one day and my son Jack was at home. Harry told me he was ill and would not allow me up to his bedroom.

I pushed past harry and into jack's bedroom, what I saw broke the straw on the camel's back, it broke me.'

"Mr Barrowman, what did your wife see that broke her?" Catherine asked with venom in her voice

All of a sudden the defendant broke down in tears

Meanwhile.......

Vincent had taught the children for the day and was resting in his chamber when he sensed catherine was in danger. He roared and pounded his head against the wall knowing he could not reach her
"Vincent! What's wrong?" Jacob asked as he rushed in to find vincent with his head bleeding.

"Vincent, you've cut your head open!" Vincent looked up and sat down with his fists clenched.
"Has something happened to catherine?" asked jacob as he cleaned up the cut on vincent's head

"Yes, no, I don't know but I felt a sharp pain in my chest" replied vincent as tears were threatening to fall from his deep blue eyes

"I shall get one of the helpers to find out what happened at the court case today, you can't do anything until nightfall."
"Thank you father, I can't lose her now, not now, she's my life." said vincent releasing the tears

Jacob felt vincents pain as he wrapped his arms around his distraught son and shed a few tears with him.

"Now rest, vincent, I will find out as much as I can, I love you and catherine both" Vincent layed back down and turned over quietly cried as jacob left his chamber

As he walked into his library he heard a message on the pipes. It said that catherine had been shot, lost blood but was alive and on her way to st vincents hospital

"Jacob, I heard the message, catherine...our catherine has been shot" asked mary

"Yes she has been shot I'm sorry to say but she is alive and on way to st vincents hospital." mary gasped

"Oh jacob, she and vincent are soulmates, i fear for his sanity if she dosen't survive" Jacob held her as she cried

When nightfall came, Peter another helper from above made his way to the world below and told Jacob that catherine was alive and recovering.
"She is going to recover vincent" Vincent looked at him with tear-filled eyes

"Thank you peter, for everything" replied vincent

"I'm sure that catherine would welcome a visit from you later, she kept saying 'vincent' in her unconsious state"

"I must go to her now, she needs me, I can feel it" and with that sentence he ran to central park and through the alleyways, when he reached st vincents hospital he climbed up the building and into catherine's room
"Vincent!" she cried and held her arms out
"catherine!" and he held her as though he hadn't seen his love for years
He kissed her urgently, and she welcomed his urgency to hold her and kiss her as they both cried tears of joy.

when the joyous reunion calmed them both he layed down on the bed and pulled her to him. He read her the third chapter of the book the children
were learning from as catherine snuggled into her lovers arms.
