Chapter Three
Knight Fantasy
Flora Winters
I do not own Smallville.
Summary: Clark’s now famous childhood friend returns to Smallville and his semi-normal existence is turned upside down. What’s an alien to do? This fiction will contain language, MM, and OC.
Chapter Three
Clark was super excited. He had never gotten to go to the big city of Metropolis before. He was gazing out his window, looking at all the big skyscrapers through wide blue eyes. They were just as huge as the ones seen in movies.
He glanced over at Zak, who was buckled up beside him. The blond was asleep with his head resting against the door.
Wasn’t that dangerous? His mommy always told him to never lean against the door while the car was moving.
He very quietly unbuckled himself, scooting over into the middle, buckling back up. He then gently pulled Zak away from the door, having him rest his head on his shoulder.
The blond snuggled into his warmth, sighing in his sleep. He was gripping Clark’s yellow t-shirt with both hands. It made Clark smile as he held his sleeping friend.
It had been a long trip, but, he had been too excited to snooze. He wanted to see everything. He didn’t want to miss a thing.
His mommy and daddy had told him to behave himself and not do anything ‘strange’ while with the Knight’s. Apparently he was the only one who could get Zak to even hum a note. He was more than happy to try and get Zak to sing. He loved his magical voice.
“Zaky,” Clark had whined at him, throwing the baseball. “I love your voice, and so does everyone else.”
Zak had shook his head, letting the ball fly over it. He turned his back to Clark.
He loved to sing. It made him feel so free to sing. But, he did not like doing it in front of people. It freaked him out.
“I don’t like singing in front of people, Clark.” He whispered.
“What do you mean?” Clark asked, feeing hurt, and pouting. “You sing in front of me. Am I not a person?”
He knew he was different, but, he was still a person.
“You’re different,” Zak said, spinning around to smile at him.
Clark freaked out. He quickly decided to play stupid. It was so easy.
“Huh?” He asked, cocking his head to the side with a vacant expression.
“You’re my best friend,” Zak told him. “You didn’t let go of my hand, so, I will sing only for you.”
Clark grinned. He hadn’t figured out his secret.
“What if I come with you?” Clark asked, walking over to him. “Will you sing for the Sea Witch then, Ariel?”
Zak snorted. “What if she steals my voice?”
Clark puffed out his chest, flexing his arms. “I’ll pick up a boat and throw it at her face.”
Zak bit his bottom lip, gazing into blue eyes that mirrored the sky. “How big of a boat are we talking about?”
Clark pointed at the pool across the yard where his battleship was floating along lazily in the warm sunlight. The two of them laughed.
Zak nodded his head. “I’ll do it, but, only if you’re with me.”
Clark smiled. It made him so happy. Zaky was going to sing.
Zak snuggled closer to him. Clark made himself more comfortable and closed his eyes. Maybe a little nap would be okay.
He hadn’t been able to sleep all night. He had been too excited to close his eyes.
“After we’re done,” Mrs. Knight said. “We’ll go get ice cream, boys.”
There was no answer.
She turned around in her seat and smiled at what she saw. She poked her husband in the shoulder, making him look in the rearview mirror.
The two little angels were asleep in each other’s arms. They were the perfect picture of innocence.
She took a picture to prove it. Martha would love it.
Mr. Knight chuckled.

Ursula Darvin was an older woman, but, that did nothing to mar her exquisite beauty. She had smooth skin like warm honey, and straight long hair dark as ink. Her eyes were dark and filled with a passionate fire for song.
When she stepped into a room, all eyes were on her, and her presence was all encompassing. She was the H.B.I.C. and everyone knew it to be true, too. And those who didn’t, well, they would soon learn what it felt like to have six inch stilettos being grinded down into their weak little spines.
Today she was dressed in violet and black. So, everyone knew these were her power colors. The Diva Bitch Queen from Hell was out to devour.
“Good evening,” she said in a cool, welcoming tone, just like Lucifer Morningstar did when some poor lost soul was entering Hell. “I’m so happy that you were able to make our appointment.”
“Thank you so much for having us, Miss Darvin,” Mrs. Knight said, greeting her with a matching white smile.
Ursula’s dark eyes fell on the two boys, taking them in. She stepped forward in a hiss of silk and the two looked up at her.
She had never seen such pairs of beautiful eyes. The dark headed child had eyes as blue and vast as the sky above. The blond had eyes as green and deep as the ocean that covered most of the world she was forced to reside in.
“Who is your little friend, Zak?” She asked him, hoping the smile did not crack her face.
Zak blushed. “Clark…Kent.”
The two of them were so cute. She wondered what they would look like five-ten years from now.
“And you will only sing for me if he is with you?” She asked, keeping her tone calm. Children were such brats, cute, but brats.
He nodded.
Ursula smiled, looking at Mrs. Knight. “Where is your husband?”
“He’s parking the car,” Mrs. Knight told her.
“DAWN!” Ursula shrieked, causing all three to jump in fright.
A young woman in a bright red dress came running in. She was all a fluster, too, just like some bitch at Sunday sermon. She nearly fell on her face.
“Yes?” She asked, looking timid as a bunny.
“Do be sure to show Mr. Knight in,” she said, turning her back to her serv…secretary.
“Of course,” Dawn said, retreating slowly with lowered eyes, smiling at the boys.
Clark didn’t know if he liked this lady or not. She was loud and mean. She had scared the nice lady in red. Plus, she was even wearing the Sea Witch’s colors.
Could she really steal Zak’s voice? Now he was worried.
Zak was holding his hand and he squeezed it, letting him know that he would protect him.
“Now,” Ursula said, leading them into another more spacious room. “I would love to hear you sing.”
She did not mention the voice recording his mother had let her listen to. He knew nothing about it.
She had been intrigued from the first note. With training, he would be great.
“I hear you have a song that you like to sing,” she said, smiling, having them to take a seat in the designer chairs.
Zak nodded.
She sang the first line to him.
Birds and Butterflies
Green eyes widened. Her voice was beautiful.
“Would you please sing the rest of it to me?” She asked, taking a seat.
Clark squeezed his hand.
“She has a pretty voice,” he whispered to him. “But yours is magical. Make her jealous.”
Zak nodded. Clark always made him feel like he could do anything.
Mrs. Knight nodded. “Do your best, darling.”
Zak stood up, gently letting go of Clark’s warm hand. He took three steps towards the beautiful Sea Witch.
She smiled at him with really white teeth. He was indeed a beautiful child. But, looks alone did not make a star in her sky.
He took a deep breath, knowing that Clark was right behind him. He closed his eyes, pretending that Clark had him in his arms.
He then opened them, and his whole timid persona changed in the blink of an eye. He opened his mouth and platinum spilled forth like crystal water from a silver fountain.
Birds and butterflies
Rivers and mountains she creates
But you’ll never know
The next move she’ll make
You can try
But it is useless to ask why
Cannot control her
She goes her own way
Clark’s blue eyes were all aglow, and Mrs. Knight felt her husband’s hands on her shoulders. It was as if a siren had been captured from the sea.
Ursula kept her expression vacant. She did not want them to see that she was impressed. Nobody had ever impressed her like this, especially someone who was not even a teenager yet.
She rules until the end of time
She gives and she takes
She rules until the end of time
She goes her way
Zak stood before her, keeping his face passive. “And that is all I have, Miss Sea Witch.”
Ursula cocked a brow and suddenly snorted out of the blue. It was the first time anyone EVER made her snort. She had made stars and she had made them fall. But, none had ever made her snort.
Oh, yes! This little boy was going to grow and become not only a blazing star, but the moon in her sky.
“Zak!” Mrs. Knight gasped over Clark’s giggling.
“It is quite all right,” Ursula said, waving it away with a fine manicured hand. “I will tutor him.”
Clark jumped up, clapping his hands. “YAY!”
Mrs. Knight nearly fainted from excitement. Her husband was ecstatic. Their baby boy was going to be famous.
Zak just looked at the Sea Witch. “But, only if Clark is with me.”
Ursula nodded. “He is a nice little boy. I have no problems with it as long as you stay focused and he is quiet during your training.”
Clark walked over to stand beside his friend. “I’m not a little boy, Miss. But, I am nice.”
Mrs. Knight and Mr. Knight just stood there in shock. The little children were doing their job. They were standing up to the Ice Queen.
Ursula smiled, patting their heads, fighting not to grit her teeth. “I shall send you a schedule that will be considerate to the boy’s daily needs.”
Mrs. Knight nodded. “Thank you so much, Miss Darvin.”
Mr. Knight did the same. He received a wink from her.
Ursula was ecstatic. She now had another pupil. She could not wait to get started.
She saw them out, shrieked for Dawn to give the boys lollypops, and then shut her door. It was time to prepare.
33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333
Clark took a lick from his chocolate ice cream cone and smiled. “Yummy.”
Zak had gotten ice cream that was all rainbow colors. It was pretty and it was tasty, too.
“I’m so proud of you, sweetheart,” Mrs. Knight said, hugging Zak, smiling at Clark. “Thank you, Clark.”
Clark cocked his head to the side, smiling at her. He would do anything for Zaky.
“You’re welcome,” he said, licking his yummy goodness. “Can Zak stay the night?”
Both boys looked at the adults with big luminous eyes. They simply had to succumb to their power of cuteness. It worked in the movies all the time.
“If your mom and dad don’t mind,” Mr. Knight said.
Both boys squealed in excitement.
“Come on,” Clark said, taking Zak’s hand. “I’ve got quarters and I saw a gumball machine around the corner.”
Zak laughed as he was pulled along. He wanted a blue gumball.
Clark wanted a green one.
33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333
Clark was playing hide and seek at the old mill with Pete and Zak. He was using his speed to cheat at it, too.
They were not supposed to be there, but, boys will be boys. Breaking some rules were a requirement of ten year olds.
Zak was the seeker and Clark would not help but play with him. He had the blond running around in circles. He was so the master.
Pete was hiding in a barrel, so there was no way for him to see him using his powers in the way it was laying. It was a good hiding place, too. Zak kept racing by it.
He was now hiding behind a large wood pile, snickering to himself. It looked like Zak was getting tired of seeking.
The blond put his hands on his knees, taking deep breaths. There was sweat glistening on his face.
He watched Zak plop down and look around. He made sure to keep himself perfectly concealed. He did not want to reveal himself just yet. He was having too much fun.
Zak pulled up on his bright red t-shirt and wiped his face off. It was really hot out.
Clark accidentally stepped on a twig, causing it to snap under his foot.
Zak’s head jerked around, and he got to his feet.
Clark backed slowly away, and took off running behind some huge steel pipes. He suddenly tripped, falling over something, landing on his face with a thud. A flip-flop went flying.
A sudden burst of shooting pain screamed like lightning through his entire body. He curled up on his side, cringing in agony.
He had never felt this before. It scared him.
“Zak!” He cried out, tears streaming from his eyes.
It felt as if his insides were melting and it was so hard to breathe. He tried crawling towards Zak’s running footsteps, but couldn’t do it.
Zak came running around the pipes, seeing Clark on the ground, crying. He was missing a shoe, and looked to be in pain.
Had he stepped on a nail?
Clark lifted his head up, saw his blurry image, and held out a quivering hand to him. “Help me…”
Zak ran to his side, going down on his knees, looking him over. “What is it? What’s wrong?”
Clark cried out, wrapping his arms around himself. “It hurts!”
Zak pulled him into his arms, trying to help him up. “Can you stand?”
Tears streamed from blue eyes and he shook his head. He looked so scared.
Zak took a hold of his wrists, trying to pull him up. It only caused Clark to scream in agony.
“PETE!” Zak screamed, looking around, struggling to pull Clark’s heavier frame up.
He began to drag Clark as gently as he could, yelling for Pete. Where was he? Had he gone home?
“Zaky…please,” Clark whispered, looking green. “It hurts.”
Zak bumped into a steel pipe and gasped. He threw himself over Clark when he felt the thing give way.
It fell with a crash, barely missing the two of them.
Clark was in shock. They could have been smashed, but, Zak had protected him.
He blinked and his vision began to clear. The pain was slowly going away.
“Zaky?” He asked, looking into the blondes tightly shut eyes.
Jade green eyes opened. “Are you okay?”
Clark nodded. “The pains gone…”
Zak turned his head, looking at the pipe that was an inch from his face. It wasn’t steel, it was lead.
“You helped me,” Clark smiled, closing his eyes. “You protected me.”
“You’re my best friend, Clark.” Zak said, looking him over before rolling off. “I love you.”
Clark suddenly felt all warm inside. He liked love.
“I’m here!” Pete yelled, crashing around the corner, dragging chains with him. “What is it? I’ll mess it up real good!”
Clark sat up with Zak’s help. He still felt really weak.
What had happened to him? He had never felt pain like that before. It had been all ouch with the hurt.
“Where were you?” Zak fumed. “Clark was hurt!”
Pete pouted, trying to get the chains off himself. “I got tangled up.”
“I’m fine,” Clark said, getting to his feet, betting his flip-flop was under the pipe. What would he tell his mommy and daddy?
They were all three covered in dirt and were sweaty, too.
Clark wiped the tears from his face with his shirt. He was really starting to feel better now.
“We should try and clean ourselves off,” Zak said, leading the way back to where their bikes were parked.
“You’re such a girl,” Pete teased, playfully punching him.
“At least they like me,” Zak retorted, making Clark laugh.
“Mommy and daddy will take one look at us and ask questions,” Clark told them, taking in their dirty appearance once more. “I don’t want to lie.”
Pete frowned. “But, it’s so easy.”
“That’s the problem,” Zak said. “But, I’ll do the lying.”
Clark shook his head. “I don’t want you to do that again. Lying is wrong.”
Zak smiled.
“We broke the rules by coming here to have fun, knowing it was wrong to do so,” he said, looking into blue eyes. “So, let me lie for you, Clark.”
“Hey,” Pete said, slapping him on the back. “If it will keep us out of trouble, I’m down with it.”
“You would lie for me again?” Clark asked.
Zak nodded. “You never let go of my hand.”
“Come along Ethel and Lucy,” Pete said. “We gots some ‘splaining to do.”
333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333
Clark couldn’t believe they had gotten away with it. Zak was a mad genius when it came to weaving webs of false truths.
Apparently they had been playing out in the back field, lost track of time, lost Clark’s shoe, and gotten filthy in the process of trying to find it.
“How could you lose your shoe?” Martha asked, holding up his dirty flip-flop.
Clark shrugged. “Faeries?”
She rolled her eyes. “You could have stepped on an old nail or something worse.”
“I’m sorry.” Clark pouted.
“Well, at least you three look and smell like you had fun,” she laughed, going to run bathwater before putting dinner on the table.
Clark smiled at Zak. “You’re wicked.”
“I know,” Zak told him. “I get it from my mommy.”
Pete’s stomach growled. “I’m starving.”
“When are you not starving?” Clark asked him.
“Never,” Pete told him with a big grin, smelling the yummy-yum.
“Who wants to go first and get all the bubbles?” Martha called down.
“ME!” Zak sang out, racing up the stairs at the speed of sound.
Pete blinked and Clark snickered when the bathroom door closed.
3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333
Soft beams of silver moonlight came streaming through the open window, dancing across Zak’s sleeping face. It made his white skin glow and his hair light up like a soft golden halo around his head.
Clark was wide awake, watching his best friend in the whole wide world sleep. He watched the gentle rise and fall of his chest. The blond looked so calm and peaceful.
Zak had helped him, and had thrown himself over him, and lied for him, too. He had been in so much pain and Zak had done everything to help him.
Before Clark knew it, he had kissed him on the forehead like his mommy did for him all the time. He gently pulled away only for Zak to suddenly snuggle closer to him.
“You’re my best friend, Clark,” Zak’s voice echoed in the room. “I love you.”
Zak had put an arm around him, and Clark just laid there. He closed his eyes.
“You would lie for me, again?” He had asked.
He could see Zak nod. “You never let go of my hand.”
Clark opened his eyes, smiling into the shadows that were hiding from the moon.
“I love you, too, Zaky.”
