ambush

Chapter 4.

Grissom quickly fumbled on the floor looking for the map. His fingers found it and he stared at it nervously. 30 miles north was his destination, a quite desolate area. He reached over to the dashboard and opened it, he knew Sara kept a spare gun in there. He picked it up and looked at it intently. Should he or not? After a few seconds contemplation he leaned forward and slipped the gun into the back of his pants. He started the engine and screeched out of the driveway with such haste the noise disturbed the neighbours dogs, sending them into a rampant barking session. Desperation filled his mind. Could he get to Sara before they hurt her anymore? Alas…he didn’t know what awaited him at his destination.
Grissom pulled into a rocky desert road, not unlike a canyon. He was less than half a mile away now. The road was dark and deserted. He slowly continued down the road, continuously looking from left to right, scanning for any signs of life. He pulled the car to a slow stop when he reached the exact point on the map. He took off his belt and looked around. Nothing, just darkness. Grissom sighed heavily, and waited. He looked at his cell…silence, no call…absolutely nothing.
He fidgeted nervously.
After sitting for 15 minutes, he was becoming more and more agitated. He needed air. He got out of the car, dropping the map on the floor. Taking in a deep breath of the cool air he prayed Sara was hanging on. He stood by the side of the car and put his hands on the side window, leaning forward slightly, stretching.
Then he felt it…cold steel on the back of his neck and the click, none other than the safety catch of a gun being released. He froze, his eyes frantically spiralling.
“You’re a very prompt man Grissom," came the chilling voice of the same woman he knew he’d spoken too on the phone.
“You got here a lot sooner than I expected, so I thought I’d give you a little opportunity to enjoy the scenery.”
“Where is Sara?” Grissom asked, his voice shaking.
The gun dug deeper into his neck and he winced at the sensation.
“I’ll tell you what Grissom…” Kate was smiling to herself. “Here’s how it’s going to work. You…,” she poked him with the gun again, “are going to stay silent until I ask you a question, and then, you can answer it. If not…” she now moved the gun to the back of his head, forcing it slightly into his skull “…I can put you out of your misery right now and your beloved Sara, well…I’ll make sure I break the news to her all nice and gentle. Do you understand?”
Grissom swallowed hard but stayed silent, unsure if he was allowed to speak or not.
Kate grinned, “You may answer."
“Yes” Grissom said through gritted teeth. “I understand."
“Are you carrying a weapon?” Kate calmly asked.
Grissom thought for a second “Yes," he said reluctantly but he dare not lie.
“Where?”
Grissom gulped, “Back of my pants."
Kate slid her free hand under his shirt. She felt his skin, he was soft. Grissom cringed at her touch.
“Hmm," escaped from her lips. “Very nice Grissom, I look forward to feeling more of you at a later date." She felt the gun and pulled it out. “Any more weapons?”
“No”
“Are you sure…?”
“Yes”
“Good." Kate said placing Grissom’s gun in her pocket and pulling out a set of handcuffs.
“Now," she continued stroking her palm down Grissom’s back making him shudder, he knew she was surely insane.
“Your hands behind your back if you please…nice and slowly."
Grissom complied although the thought of him being restrained made him feel even more uncomfortable, if that were possible. He thrived on being in control. Without being in control his fear reached new heights. He slowly put his hands behind his back and Kate cuffed his wrists together tightly. A slight grunt of pain emitting from Grissom’s lips as the metal cut into him.
Kate removed the gun from his head and moved close to him, only an inch from his neck and whispered in his ear “Don’t worry Grissom, being restrained isn’t always about pain…in time, I will show you pleasure.”
Her words made his stomach turn.
“Turn around," she requested.
Turning around slowly, Grissom came eye to eye with the cause of his current nightmares. Her eyes were crystal blue with a tinge of light green. Glowing with power and revenge. Kate looked him in the eyes.
“ You don’t recognise me do you?”
Grissom thought hard. He studied her. She must have been between 26-30, he wasn’t quite sure, quite attractive, although she did look a little rough. He couldn’t place her in his memory though. He shook his head, “No, I don’t recognise you”.
Kate smiled “In time I’ll refresh your memory for you.”
She stepped to the side and pointed her gun to a large bush a few feet away. “That way Grissom, through the bush and follow the path. I’ll be right behind you, and you know better than to try anything. You know how responsive I am.”
Grissom didn’t argue and did as instructed. He began to walk down a trail, it was dark and hard to see, and then there was a light. He turned around as Kate shone a flash light down on the path. He continued walking, for what felt like miles. Then his ears picked something up. A soft thudding noise. Like a very very slow drum. As he got closer he realised it was the sound of something being hit. Hard!
As he turned around one last bush he saw a camp fire and car headlights. Bright lights of an SUV. And then he saw Bobby. A large very muscular man, about 6ft 3, probably in his earlier 30’s. Grissom’s heart pounded and he felt the colour drain from his face as he saw Bobby kicking something on the ground. Harder and harder. He started to run towards him.
“Stop!”, Kate demanded. Grissom hesitantly froze, so wanting to run. Bobby looked up hearing Kate’s voice and smiled to her through his sweat riddled race. Kate stepped closely up to Grissom until he could feel her. Bobby bent down and picked up his work out object. It was only an old sofa cushion.
In the darkness Grissom had presumed it was Sara. He closed his eyes and breathed a sigh of relief.
Kate chuckled “You thought that was her didn’t you?”
Grissom turned and shot her a deathly look.
Kate pointed the gun so he’d continue walking. Grissom got closer and closer to Bobby who was cringingly cracking his fingers.
“Hey Bobby dear, Grissom here thought you were taking your frustrations out on his bitch!”
Bobby smiled, “Did he now, well I’m not at the moment as you can see Grissom. I’m just having a little warm up session while I wait.”
Grissom swallowed hard, “Wait for what?”
Kate pushed Grissom hard in the back and he tripped, falling flat on his face at Bobby’s feet. “That’s what you get for speaking without permission," Kate told him. “Well darling, you may as well answer his question, it’s only polite."
Bobby chuckled to himself and reached down grabbing Grissom by the hair and yanking his head up. His evil eyes starring into Grissom’s. “You!” Was his simple answer and the one that Grissom was dreading. He had no time for it to sink in though. Bobby’s fist hit him full force on the side of the face, knocking him to the ground with a thud. Kate sat on a rock and watched in glee as her man rein acted his previous sofa bashing session on Grissom.
Grissom’s pain was loud when boot after boot and fist after fist came in contact with his body. His face was battered, nose bleeding, lips split, and he was pretty sure he’d probably have a few broken ribs by the time this ended. With his hands cuffed behind him he was unable to make any attempt at protecting himself and took the ruthless beating without choice. The pain was intense and he could feel himself beginning to drift. Kate stood and walked towards Grissom’s battered form, still taking the punishment of her man. Bobby again grabbed Grissom by the hair pulling up his head, but this time his head dropped and Bobby had to firmly hold him up, getting ready to place another brutal blow to the face.
“Enough.” Kate calmly said and Bobby’s fist came to an immediate halt.
Bobby continued to hold up Grissom’s head by his hair. Sweat poured down his bleeding face, mixing with the blood. He was seconds from passing out. Kate bent down to him and looked him in the eye. He could barely see her, his vision vague and blurred. He was loosing his battle to stay awake.
“I’ll see you real soon Grissom," Kate whispered, “sweet dreams." She kissed him lightly on the cheek, tasting his blood, she liked it. She stood and Bobby released Grissom, his head hit the dirt with a bang. His eyes drifted shut and he finally passed out.
Kate leaned over and gently stroked Bobby’s face. Taking his hands she gently rubbed them. They were cut and bruised from the punishment he had dealt to Grissom. She kissed them softly.
“Pop him in the truck baby then I’ll take you home and give some lovin and patch you up. Ok?”
Bobby smiled and leaned to kiss Kate softly.
He hovered over Grissom and picked him up easily. He dumped him in the back of the SUV and they headed off.
