Tell Me What You See
~~~~~~~~~~~
Carmel braced herself against the cold weather as she made her way to Colonel Klink's office. She wasn't sure exactly how she would handle herself once she was face to face with Klink. She tapped the snow off her shoes before she entered the office.
"Hallo, Private Gregg." Hilda said.
"Hi, Miss Hilda. Is the colonel in?" Carmel responded.
"Yes. Would you like to talk to him?" Hilda asked.
"Yes, please." Carmel said.
Hilda opened the door to Klink's office. Carmel felt her stomach twist and her mouth felt extremely dry.
"Colonel Klink, Private Carmel Gregg is here to see you." Hilda said. Carmel heard Klink say something but she couldn't make it out due to the buzzing in her ears.
"Private, are you okay?" Hilda had turned to Carmel.
"Yes, thank you." Carmel said.
"The colonel will see you now." Hilda said.
"Thank you, Miss Hilda." Carmel said.
Klink sat at his desk. He was still thinking about Carmel. She showed him respect as a superior officer and as a person despite the fact that they were enemies. He always done his best to show her the same respect.
His thoughts were interrupted by Hilda informing him that Carmel was there to speak to him. His heart pounded and his mind raced wildly. He wasn't so sure how he would be able to deal with seeing Carmel after what he had done.
"Send her in, please, Hilda." Klink told her.
"Of course, colonel." Hilda said.
Carmel walked into the office. Klink and Carmel looked at each other. They sized each other up quickly before either one spoke.
"Please, sit down." Klink told her.
"Thank you, colonel." Carmel said, sitting down in front of Klink.
"What do wish to talk to me about?" Klink asked.
"I've been doing a lot of thinking about us." Carmel said.
Klink swallowed uncomfortably. He figured Carmel would eventually bring that particular subject up. He thought that she wouldn't bring it up so soon.
"What about us?" Klink asked.
"I've been fighting with my emotions. I don't know if I should love you or hate you, sir." Carmel stated.
Klink almost laughed at Carmel's straightforwardness. Klink thought that that was one of Carmel's most refreshing traits. He thought for a few seconds.
"I'm glad you brought that up." Klink got up and walked around in front of Carmel. He leaned against the edge of the desk.
"You are, sir?" Carmel asked, stunned.
"Yes. I've been thinking quiet a bit about us as well." Klink told her.
"Sir, in you honest opinion, tell me what you see when you look at me." Carmel said, standing up.
"When I look at you, I see a beautiful, energetic young woman that any man would be lucky to have." Klink said.
Klink was greeted by a soft smile. Klink wanted to hold her. She looked so fragile and precarious standing there.
"When I look at you, I don't see an enemy. I see a German officer who is so unlike his fellow officers. I see a kind and considerate man that treats a woman with respect." Carmel said.
Klink felt himself blush slightly. Klink stepped forward. He reached out and caressed a soft, pale cheek. He softly pressed his lips to Carmel's. She fell into the kiss. Maybe things would work out between the two...
