Disclaimer:
I do not own Star Trek: The Original Series, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
For the love of you
Author's Note: sorry about the long wait and the short chapter, but like most stuff I write this is kind of writing it's self and taking it's own sweet time about it. This chapter show's up what I think is an interesting point to the story having Spock and McCoy come together this late in the game as it were. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spock’s eyebrows rose at him once more
“One would suspect Dr. your statement to be untrue seeing as it was you I just kissed, not Jim”
McCoy bit back on his sudden hysterical anger. How could Spock be taking this so calmly, so fucking Vulcan like, when he was coming so dangerously close to everything the Dr. had dreamed of for the last decade or so?
“Why the Hell are you taking this so calmly?”
The words where out of his mouth before he realized he had said them.
“Don’t you think this is hard enough for me, you even being alive?”
Frustration, anger and grief welled up in him, and McCoy struggled to control them and failed.
“Why now? Why does it have to be now? After all these years? After all this time of thinking if there was anyone for you it would be Jim. After having to watch you die, for Christ’s sack. Do you know what that’s like Spock? Do you know what it’s like to have to watch the man you love die, and then come back without ever being able to tell him how you feel? Having to take care of Jim through all that without ever being about to say anything? Thinking I was a fool anyway thought you could never. . . would never. . .”
He trailed off as he felt tears come, and half doubled up trying to shield his face from the other man. He was shaking so badly now he didn’t think he could move without falling, everything seemed to have left him. After holding it all back, through the years of working on the Enterprise, through watching Spock die and come back to life, he was finally loosing it.
Spock just stood there staring at him for a full minute. He opened his mouth once as if to say something, but then shut it again. Then in one movement he closed the space still remaining between them and put his arms around the doctor, drawing him close against his chest.
“Leonard”
His voice was soft almost gentle. McCoy had only ever heard Spock speak like that to Kirk and even that rarely, but never before to him.
“I am truly, truly sorry.”
And for the first time in a long time McCoy gave up and cried, deep shuddering sobs that shook his entire body. Spock just stood there and held him carefully rocking, for quiet some time.
