Home Sweet Hell #4
Home Sweet Hell #4
He doesn't cry, but he does feel like he's been punched in the gut. After a few seconds of frowning and blinking at the skinny stranger in the crash helmet, he manages to speak. "Er, sorry, I didn't order…"
"No." The guy thrusts the box towards him. "But someone did."
He reluctantly accepts, notices the ticket attached to the box. His name, his address. But it's not from Jubilee. "Who?"
The man shrugs. "I just deliver, mate."
"Right." He hesitates, then turns away, wondering where the hell he's left his wallet. "I'll just…"
"Already paid for." The voice is muffled, the guy is already halfway down the stairs.
"Right" he says softly, still frowning. Seems like people suddenly have the urge to feed him, which is disconcerting as it's usually him doing the looking after everyone else. He thinks of Tosh a couple of months back, bringing him coffee in reception; his bruises still fresh, his pain raw and exposed. She hasn't tried since. And it can't be Gwen, not twice in one week. Besides, she's more up-front than this, she'd have brought it herself.
He isn't hungry anyway, at least, not for food. So he places the box by the telephone; he'll call City Pizza, charm the information out of them. He nudges the door closed. Only, it doesn't shut. The brown suede boot makes his heart thud and his face flush; the voice floods him with relief.
"Ianto, are we okay?" Jack pushes at the door, stands there wearing a wounded puppy expression.
Relief, and a surprising amount of anger. Okay? Are we okay? No, we're not fucking okay! We won't be until…
"I've missed you" Jack says quietly, still looking a little lost, vulnerable. Hands in pockets, head slightly tilted.
If this is an act, he'll kill him right here! He thinks he can do it, he's physically strong enough. He'll kill him. Or die trying.
"Ianto, come on."
I haven't been crazy since we were we
And I wanna be, I wanna be, now can't you see?
I wanna be crazy like I used to be
"Shut up." He feels his fists clenching, unclenching; can hear the blood pumping in his head. Something snaps, deep inside; floats free. "Just… shut the fuck up!" He moves so fast Jack isn't prepared; he has him by the lapels, is dragging him inside, is slamming him back against the door. The crashing sound of the door violently meeting its frame, of Jack's head rocking back against the timber, thunders around the room.
"I don't wanna fight with you!" Jack pleads, dazed, confusion in his eyes as suddenly he is jerked forward then thumped back again.
And I wanna be, I wanna be, now can't you see?
I wanna be crazy like I used to be
He is up in his face now, breathing hard and fast, pinning Jack back with the force of his body. He remembers the last time they were like this, but there are no guns this time.
Don't think about it! Just do it! Don't think!
