Chapter Three
The wind blew through his silky red hair as he looked out over the city of Metropolis. The sun was getting higher and it smiled warmly down on his pale skin. He was so high up no noise from the city could reach his ears. There was nothing up here but the wind, sun, and the big golden globe of the daily planet to keep him company. This is where he came to when he needed a quite place to think. He learned to control his teleporting powers over the years to where he could teleport to anywhere he had already been once before.
He let his bare feet dangle over the edge as he watched the city move quickly below him. Clark was more than likely zipping all over the city trying to find him at this very moment. He was going to San Francisco and that was that. He knew he had that dream for a reason. How could he dream of someone he had never laid eyes on before anyway? Then she just happens to wind up dead on the news. This was more than your simple you had too much pizza before you went to bed excuse.
He let out an exasperated sigh and then stiffened when he felt a hand gently grip his shoulder. He turned around to see Clark looking at him, “I’m sorry Phe.”
Phoenix rolled his eyes and turned away from him to look back out over the busy city getting on with its day, “How did you find me?”
He felt Clark sit down beside him, “I’m really fast, remember?”
Phoenix shook his head, “Uh-huh.”
Clark winked, “So I just ran all over the city until I realized that you might be at the top of the world,” He said, “Plus, it would have taken a normal boyfriend a week to find you.”
Phoenix refused to smile, “Maybe even a month.”
Clark smiled warmly, “Yeah.”
He watched the wind blow through Phoenix’s hair making it look like a candle in the wind. He loved Phoenix’s hair. Clark slowly reached out and placed a big golden hand over a smooth ivory one. Phoenix turned to look at him and Clark asked him, “Why here?”
Phoenix thought about it for a second and then replied, “It’s quite. No sound but the wind and the spinning of the world.”
Clark looked puzzled, “You can hear the world spin?”
Phoenix looked at him with a raised eyebrow, “Clark,” He said, “Look above you.”
Clark was then hit with, “Oh yeah!”
Phoenix rolled his eyes, “Sometimes I really worry about you.”
Clark laughed, “I’m glad somebody does.”
Phoenix looked at Clark’s hand over his and smiled softly to himself, “He ran all over the city to find me. He has saved my life so many times from meteor freaks. It’s unreal, and here I am mad at him for trying to protect me.”
Clark poked him on the shoulder, “Hey, you home?”
The made Phoenix laugh, “Yes, I’m home honey, now where’s my damn beer?”
Clark’s blue eyes lit up with humor, “It’s going on ten and the days just starting. Let’s go home and get dressed and hit the town,” Clark said grinning at him, “What do you say?”
Phoenix slid his hand out from under his and stood up, “I’m going to San Francisco Clark.”
He dropped his head and sighed, “Red heads, so damn stubborn.”
Phoenix play kicked him on the back, “Whatever.”
Clark stood up and said, “Let’s go home and we’ll see from there.”
Phoenix thought about it for a second and then nodded, “Ok.”
Clark looked around, “Am I going to carry you or are we going to teleport?”
Smiling Phoenix said, “I’ll do it.”
Clark held his hands out to him and Phoenix took them in his. All of a sudden Phoenix let out a gasp and threw his head back as images assaulted his mind. He would have fallen to his knees if Clark had not caught him.
Clark held him close to his chest, “Phe, Phe! What’s wrong? Talk to me!”
Suddenly Phoenix took in a deep breath and opened his eyes to look at him, “Oh my god.”
“What?” Clark asked getting worried.
Phoenix looked around all paranoid, “I just saw a room Clark.”
“What?” He asked holding him close.
“There was a stained glass window. There was this big, a really big book on this stand with some weird symbol I use to draw all the time when I was little.” He continued on.
Clark was really starting to get worried, “And?”
Phoenix eyes got really scared, “A woman walked into the room just as this,” He shook his head, “Creature appeared. He was all red and had this diamond on his chest that was all black with an eight in the center.”
Clark almost dropped him in shock, “Then what happened?”
“The creature,” Phoenix said, “I couldn’t see her face but I felt her fear, and then this thing just blew her up.”
Clark closed his eyes and held Phoenix close to him, “Clark, what’s happening to me?”
“I need to get you home.” He said and then they were gone in a blur.
Phoenix sat on the couch with a glass of water in his hand really starting to get agitated at being fussed over, “I’m fine now Clark.”
Clark stopped ranting, “What, oh really?”
Phoenix gritted his teeth and forced a well labored smile, “Yes.”
Clark took a deep breath and dropped down across from him, “You sure?”
Phoenix’s right eye twitched and Clark hid his grin with a pillow, “For the eighth time, yes.”
“First you go and have a dream that turned out to be real. Then you go and get mad at me and disappear, “Clark ranted, “And then you have some freaky vision of some red demon blowing up some chick,” Clark said as he thought, “Which, I’m not going to do.”
Phoenix got to his feet and walked over to him, “I’m going to go pack now.”
“What do you mean?” Clark asked getting to his feet as well.
“I’m going Clark. End of discussion. I’m going to Phoebe Halliwell’s funeral. It’s tomorrow at four.” Phoenix told him going to the bedroom.
Clark wanted to shriek like a pissed off spouse, “There’s demons and charmed ones running around and one went and died last year and now another one bites the dust,” Oh he needed a drink, “Wait a minute.”
He looked to see that Phoenix was not even in the room, “Didn’t that Phoebe have visions?”
He walked over to the bar and picked up a bottle of scotch and poured him a huge glass full, “One can orb which Phoenix can do.”
He put a hand to his mouth, “She looks an awful lot like…oh shit.”
He spun around and thought, “No, it’s not possible. Phoenix grew up in Smallville. There was no way he could be related to the charmed sisters. No way in hell is that possible. It’s got to be the effects of those damn rocks that came down with me.”
He was brought out of his thought by Phoenix yelling at the top of his beautiful lungs, “CLARK!”
He spun around and dropped his drink which shattered all over the wooden floor, “Phoenix!”
He sped to the room only to stop in the doorway with his mouth wide open at what he was seeing. There Phoenix was, perfectly fine. He just happened to be floating two feet off the ground with his hands on his hips looking at him, “Any ideas on how to get me down Skippy?”
Meanwhile, Back in the Past
Phoenix opened his eyes slowly seeing worried faces looking at him. He squinted because of the bright lights and asked, “What happened?”
Chloe was the first to speak, “That’s what we would like to know.”
Phoenix looked around not seeing a certain someone, “Where’s Clark?”
Pete snickered and Chloe elbowed him, “He’s holding you Phe.”
Phoenix’s eyes snapped open completely as he all of a sudden felt strong arms around him. He leaned his head back slightly to see the worry and warmth in the blue eyes looking down at him, “Hi.” Phoenix said at full blush.
Phyre smiled, “Hi back.”
Phoenix smiled warmly, “I think I can sit up now.”
Phyre blushed like a little school boy and helped him to sit up, “Are you ok now?”
“Yeah,” Phoenix said, “My head just hurts a little is all.”
“I’ll get you some Tylenol.” Chloe said and ran off.
Phoenix looked up to see Lana walk in and smile in relief, “I see you’re better.”
“Does my dad know?” Phoenix asked and then hearing the squealing of tires outside, “Never mind.”
The front door of the Talon flew open as Mr. Kent ran in like a raging dust devil, “Is he ok?”
Phoenix smiled at him from his seat in next to a very close Clark, “Hi dad.”
Two Weeks Later
Chloe laughed, “I still can’t believe you bought that with your prize money.”
Phoenix pouted, “What? You don’t like my teddy bear with his golden skin and blue eyes. They even gave him wild black hair.”
Chloe looked at the adorable teddy and could not help but laugh out loud, “Its adorable Phoenix.”
Pete snorted, “It looks like a certain someone we all know.”
Phoenix looked confused, “Really?”
Chloe and Pete both looked at each other and then back at Phoenix who was smiling at them. Chloe snorted, “Wow, playing dumb, so cute.”
Before Phoenix could reply they saw Clark walk into the Torch, “Hi.”
Phoenix quickly stuffed his teddy into his backpack, “Hey.”
“What’s up?” He asked.
Pete snickered, “Just making fun of,” But he was cut off by a jab to the ribs as Phoenix replied quickly, “Pete’s intelligence.”
Chloe all of a sudden howled with laughter and Pete glared daggers of doom at her as she thought to herself, “Beautiful save Phe, just beautiful.”
Phyre smiled, “That’s not a nice thing to do.”
Pete was about to agree when the bell rang, “Damn, you’ll pay for that one Phe. Just you wait.”
Phoenix smiled, “Bring it hot shot.”
Pete did it. He didn’t think he ever would but he did. He put his left hand on his hip and then did the “neck” thing as he waved his finger in the air at him, “Oh, it’s already been brought.”
Phoenix closed his eyes as Chloe was taking really deep breaths and then just rolled with laughter. Pete snickered and then ran out of the room with a final yell, “I’ll get you next time KENT!” Phyre was looking around not knowing what the hell had just happened.
Chloe went back to typing on her computer as Phoenix smiled as he passed Phyre to go file some papers for Chloe. Phyre was still shocked that Phoenix had recognized him and called him by his alien name. He didn’t have a choice but to wipe his memory.
“Clark?” Chloe asked.
Phyre turned around to look at her with a smile, “Yes.”
She smiled and whispered, “Make yourself useful, go talk to Phoenix.”
His breath hitched at what she was implying and then heard Phoenix swear and both turned to see him fighting with the filing cabinet. Chloe let out a loud snort and went back to typing as Phyre said, “Ok.”
She looked over her monitor to see him saunter on over to Phoenix as she thought, “Match made in heaven.”
Five Weeks Later
“Dad, I think we need to talk.” Phoenix said as he came home late one night covered in mud and grass stains.
“What about son,” He asked looking up at him, “What happened to you?”
“I’m not sure how to put it exactly dad,” He said getting some water from the pitcher in the fridge, “There was this meteor freak and Clark showed up to help me and…”
“Is everything ok? Is this about your feelings for Clark son? If it is I am fine with it.” He said as he took a quick drink of milk.
Phoenix blushed, “No, not exactly.”
“Are you hurt? What is it son? Is it Clark?” Jonathan asked picking up the keys to the truck.
Phoenix took a deep breath, “You might want to sit down dad.”
“Why?” He asked cautiously.
“I don’t want you to fall in surprise.” Phoenix told him.
“Son, whatever it is I’m not going to,” Only to be cut off when his son vanished in blue swirling lights and reappeared in the same place. Jonathan shook his head and the glass of milk in his had hit the floor and shattered, “Freak out.”
Phoenix felt a tear slide down his pale mud covered cheek at the look his dad was giving him. Jonathan realized his son had misunderstood the look he was giving him and quickly took him in his arms, “I love you Phe. You’re not a freak son. You’re special, more special than anything in my world.”
“Dad,” He whispered, “I can disappear.”
Jonathan had dreaded this moment ever since his beloved mother had passed away. He held his son close and whispered, “You’re not a meteor freak so. You’re something different, something beautiful.”
Phoenix felt like an idiot. Here he was sixteen years old and sobbing like a child, “Really?”
“Let’s go into the living room son,” Jonathan said, “There’s something I need to tell you.”
“I know I’m adopted dad.” Phoenix told him.
Jonathan paled, “How did you know?”
“I heard you talking to mom’s picture one night,” Phoenix said, “How happy the two of you were when you took me in.”
Jonathan smiled, “You are the best thing that has ever happened to me and your mother Phoenix.”
Phoenix smiled warmly and Jonathan hugged him tighter, “Now, about your special gift son,” Jonathan started when Phoenix asked, “Did not come from the meteors?”
“No, your parents,” Jonathan said, “Your biological parents.”
Phoenix’s green eyes widened as Jonathan ran his fingers through his long red hair, “What?”
“On the day of the meteor shower our truck flipped over. We woke up and got out of the truck to see nothing but fire and smoke all around us,” Jonathan said and continued, “When all of a sudden these bright blue lights swirled around in front of us and a man and woman walked out of the flames and smoke all dressed in bright white.”
Phoenix felt his breath leave him as his dad continued, “The young woman looked so sad and told us to take care of you and to make sure your name started with a P.”
Jonathan smiled at his son, “Your mother and I took you in thanks. We always wanted a child and Martha could never have any of her own. Those two angels brought you to us son.”
“Angels?” Phoenix gasped.
Jonathan smiled, “Yes son, you come from angels.”
Phoenix looked at his hands and the dirt under his nails, “Didn’t they want me?”
Jonathan smiled and put a hand on his shoulder, “Your birth mother was in tears when she gave you to your mother and me.”
Phoenix smiled up at him with shiny emerald orbs, “I love you dad.”
Jonathan hugged him close, “I love you to son. Your mother and I kept the blanket your birth parents had you wrapped in the day they gave you to us.”
Phoenix asked, “May I see it?”
Two Weeks Later
“Phoenix!” Chloe shouted at the top of her lungs as she shot up from the hospital bed giving poor Lana a fright.
“Chloe, you ok?” She asked her in alarm.
“Where’s Phoenix?” She asked taking in deep breaths to calm herself.
“He is on his way back to the farm. He told me to call him the minute you woke up,” She said, “He left like twenty minutes ago.”
“Then why is his truck still here?” Phyre asked from the door as both turned to look at him.
“Clark!” Chloe gasped, “I think something has happened to him.”
“Chloe, you need to calm down, “Lana said, “That field explosion threw you pretty far.”
Chloe snorted, “Yeah pretty far, pretty far into somebody else’s head.”
“What do you mean?” Phyre asked her.
Chloe took a deep breath, “I was seeing through someone else’s eyes. I saw Phoenix walk to the truck and I moved up behind him and put a rag over his mouth and nose. He tried to fight and damn he packs a good punch, but whatever was on the rag worked too fast.”
Lana looked from Chloe to Clark, “There were meteor fragments all around her when we got to her.”
Chloe howled, “I’m a freak!”
“Calm down Chloe,” He said while thinking, “Why didn’t he just teleport?”
Lana got up and walked to the door telling them she was going to call Mr. Kent and see if Phoenix was there and if not she was going to call the police. Phyre smiled and told her that it was a good idea and sat down to ask Chloe if she remembered anything else.
Seven Hour Later
Phoenix opened his eyes and realized he couldn’t move. He tried to teleport but he was paralyzed. A voice came from behind him, “Don’t struggle kid. In a few hours you’ll be just fine.”
Phoenix tried to cry out and realized that he was gagged. The man’s voice got agitated, “Calm down, it’s just temporary.”
Phoenix could not even feel the tear that was sliding down his cheek as he thought, “Clark.”
Two Hours Later
Phyre was at the farm with Chloe and Lana. Mr. Kent was beside himself with worry. The police were looking all over Smallville for his son.
Lana brought Mr. Kent some coffee from the kitchen, “Here you are Mr. Kent.”
“Thank you Lana.” He told her as he looked at Chloe, “Anything?”
She shook her head no and Phyre stood up really getting worried and had to get something to drink. He walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge only to hear Chloe yell, “Clark! I see an old windmill!”
“What windmill?” Lana asked.
“I know,” Jonathan said, “Clark let’s go.”
“What about us?” Chloe asked.
“Wait here, it could be dangerous.” Phyre told them as he followed Mr. Kent out the door to the truck.
The door closed behind them and Lana looked to Chloe with a raised eyebrow, “Dangerous indeed.”
Chloe smiled, “Let’s stop by the barn first.”
“Why?” Lana asked following Chloe out the kitchen door.
“You’ll see.” She said with a hint of divine wrath in her voice.
Jonathan pulled the truck up to the windmill and jumped out with Phyre right behind him, “PHOENIX!” Jonathan yelled out.
Phyre looked around and used his x-ray vision that he discovered he had a few weeks ago. He spotted a large box and a skeleton not moving inside.
Phyre cried out, “NO!”
Jonathan watched him run over and stab his fist into the ground with a loud bang and pulled out a huge metal box. He gasped as Phyre peeled it open as if it were made out of tinfoil.
“Phoenix! Phoenix!” Phyre cried as he looked at the beautiful tear stained face. He took a deep breath of relief when two emerald eyes opened to look at him. Phyre lifted his paralyzed body up into his arms as Phoenix cried, “Clark, it’s you! It’s always you!”
Phyre kissed him on the forehead, “I was so scared Phe.”
Phoenix sniffed, “I love you Clark.”
Phyre opened his blue eyes to gaze into wet emerald ones, “I love you to.”
Jonathan walked over and smiled at his son and hugged him close, “I was so worried son. Let’s get you to the hospital to get you better.”
Phoenix was lifted up into Phyre’s arms and Jonathan grabbed his shoulder, “You’re secrets safe with me son.”
Phyre smiled warmly at Mr. Kent as Phoenix said, “Sorry for not telling you dad.”
“It’s alright son,” Jonathan said, “It was not you’re secret to tell.
Phoenix smiled as some feeling came back into his fingers as he whispered into Phyre’s ear, “I love you.”
Phyre held him close, “I love you so much Phe,” He said thinking, “More than you will ever know.”
They were about to get into the truck when a man stepped out from behind the bushes, “Hold it right there!”
All three turned around to see a big man holding a gun. He was all in black and had a mask covering his face, “I don’t know how you got the kid out so fast but stay still.”
Phoenix could not move. He cursed himself for not being able to teleport Clark and his dad to safety. He could barely even move his fingers.
Phyre was afraid that if he made any sudden movements to use his powers he would get Phoenix or Mr. Kent hurt. He just stood there and basically held Phoenix close and slowly tried to get Mr. Kent behind him, but Mr. Kent got in front of him with his arms out wide, “I won’t let you hurt my kids.’
Phyre’s eyes went wide in shock at what Mr. Kent had just said. Phoenix whispered, “Dad what are you doing?”
“What do you want?” Jonathan asked.
The man cocked the gun, “A kidnapping to solve so my career will be set for life, but now the two of you had to go and ruin that! I guess I am just going to have to find three dead bodies, now aren’t I?”
Jonathan watched him aim the gun right at him and he closed his eyes. All of a sudden he heard something clank and something hard hit the ground. He opened his eyes to see both Chloe and Lana beating the man with shovels screaming at the top of their lungs, “Take that you miserable bastard! How do you like being knocked unconscious, huh?”
Lana hit him in the lower leg with the shovel making him cry out in pain as she shrieked to Chloe, “Maybe we should put him in the box and burry it!”
The man cried out again as Chloe hit him hard in the back and Lana kicked him in the side with her sharp heels screaming, “You better hope that did not ruin my shoes you little bitch!”
Jonathan ran over and grabbed the gun that had fallen to the ground and put the safety on. Chloe and Lana hit the man in the mask one more time and as they walked away both turned and ran back to kick him again for good measure. Both walked up to the Kent’s and Clark, “I guess we showed him.” Both of them said giving each other a high-five, just as police cars pulled up just at the last minute to make the arrest.
Later that night after the trip home from the hospital Phoenix had asked Clark to stay the night with him. His dad was more than happy to have Clark stay the night, just as long as he slept on the couch. Phyre was so happy and confused. He got the love he desired from Phoenix and Mr. Kent had called him his kid. He smiled as he watched the fire burning in the fireplace listening to each lick of flames story from his warm bed on the couch.
He heard soft footsteps coming down the stairs and smiled to himself. Phyre quickly closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep. He felt a soft hand touch his cheek and run its fingers through his hair. He slowly brought his hand out to take it in his own and opened his eyes to Phoenix kneeling beside him, “I couldn’t sleep.”
Phyre smiled, “Me either.”
Phoenix bit his bottom lip, “Clark?”
“Yeah?” He asked rubbing his fingers along that smooth pale hand.
“Would you come and sit on the rug in front of the fireplace with me?” He asked him as Phyre kissed his hand, “Sure.”
Phoenix smiled and pulled the covers off of Phyre to show that he only had his boxers on. He blushed and Phyre almost did the same thing, almost. He led Phyre over to the fireplace where both of them sat down next to each other. Phyre wrapped his arm around Phoenix’s shoulder and smiled, “Is that your mother?”
Phoenix looked up at the photo, “Yes.”
“She’s beautiful Phe.” Phyre told him as he listened to the fire dance on the logs.
“She had the most beautiful smile, and the prettiest hands.” Phoenix told him.
“I see where you got yours from then.” Phyre told him as he pulled him closer to him.
Phoenix turned his head to look at him, “You think so?”
Phyre could not believe what he was hearing, “What are you talking about. You’re the most beautiful man I’ve ever laid eyes on in my entire life.”
Phoenix blushed, “You must not get out much.”
Phyre sighed as he thought, “This is true beauty right here. More beautiful than any angel and he does not even know it.”
Phoenix saw that Phyre was looking at him with a very strange emotion in his eyes that he could identify, “What?”
Phyre looked into the fire, “I was just admiring you.”
Phoenix laughed and then quickly put a hand over his mouth and listened for his dad to come racing down the stars faster than any Kansas twister. He closed his eyes and thanked his lucky stars as he saw the worried look on Phyre’s face. Phyre moved to get up, “Maybe I should put my jeans back on.”
Phoenix grabbed his wrist and squeezed gently, “You’re fine.”
Phyre felt a little uncertain, “But what if he wakes up and sees us like this?”
Phoenix pulled Phyre against his chest, “That will be the least of our worries.”
“What if he shoots me?” Phyre asked snorting.
“It will either bounce off, or I’ll teleport us out of here in pretty blue lights.” Phoenix told him.
Phyre snickered and breathed in Phoenix’s scent. He smelled like oranges all citrus like. He laid his head in Phoenix’s lap only to have Phoenix ask, “Clark?”
Phyre looked up at him with a slight yawn, “Yeah?”
Phoenix looked uncertain, “Kiss me.”
Phyre was on his lips in an instant. Phoenix fell back from the force of it and almost squealed in delight but thought that would be unmanly. There tongues were battling each other like two Vikings going at each other in battle. Phyre was drowning in the taste of him and he could feel the demon want to come out and play but he pushed it back with a growl and pulled away from a gasping Phoenix. He looked down at that beautiful face with now swollen lips and glowing green pools for eyes that he could stay lost in forever. His foot hit a log in the fire and made a loud sound. Phoenix froze as he heard his dad get up and open his door. Phyre whispered, “Go.”
Phoenix looked at him, “Are you sure?”
“I’m positive, now go.” He said more forcefully.
Phoenix quickly vanished in blue lights as Mr. Kent came around the corner to see him on the floor snoring. Mr. Kent ran a hand through his mussed up hair and smiled, “Clever boys.” Of course Phyre heard him and could not help but smile as he snored louder for emphasis that he was indeed asleep and completely innocent of any wrong doings.
Present 2001
Phoenix was smiling out his window as he watched the clouds flow past. He could not help but see the sky went on forever and ever. It was his first time in a plane and he was having a blast.
Clark on the other was not having a good time at all. Each time the craft would hit turbulence he would cry out and squeeze his eyes shut as he started breathing like a pregnant woman. Phoenix could not help but laugh, “You big baby.”
“Shut up!” Clark growled as he motioned for one of the flight attendants to come over. A young woman walked over with pretty brown hair, “Can I help you?”
“I need a drink, lots and lots of drinks.” Clark said as the plane hit some more turbulence, “Shit!”
The young woman smiled all knowingly and quickly went to fetch him some drinks. Phoenix shook his head as his cell began to ring, “Hello, ah yes, P3, perfect. I’ll be there.” He hung up the phone and Clark looked at him, “What was that about.”
Phoenix smiled, “I’ll be singing at P3.”
“Shit,” Clark thought as he took the drinks from the woman, “Why?”
Phoenix frowned, “What better way to figure out what happened than to be where she hung out the most when alive?”
Clark had to smile at that, “Chloe?”
“Yeah, she got me some info.” Phoenix said laying his seat back.
Clark took another big drink from the small bottle and put it down, “Shouldn’t you be taking that slow Clark? You just went through four already.”
“Quite,” Clark said, “I’m fine.”
He opened another one and quickly downed it and fell over into Phoenix’s lap when the plane hit even more turbulence. Clark started to giggle, “You’re so beautiful Phe.”
Phoenix snorted. Clark had actually giggled. Oh this is too good. Where was a video camera when you needed one? He smiled at Clark who was now snuggling closer to his chest, “Warm.”
Phoenix smiled as he watched Clark close his eyes and start to giggle as he played with his shirt collar. Clark drunk was the funniest thing anyone could ever see. Phoenix has a ton of his drunken escapades on video at home where he is running through the house with a red table cloth tied around his neck trying to save someone from being eaten by the closet monster.
All of a sudden Clark started to snore and Phoenix laughed out loud and he lolled Clark’s head around in his lap, “What am I going to do with you superman?”

Chapter Three

He watched the wind blow through Phoenix’s hair making it look like a candle in the wind. He loved Phoenix’s hair. Clark slowly reached out and placed a big golden hand over a smooth ivory one. Phoenix turned to look at him and Clark asked him, “Why here?”
