Don didn’t know why he was so confused. It wasn’t like they had been together, they never had been. But it disturbed him and made his daily life appear darker than it already was. He knew that both of them had made a mistake, a huge mistake which could not be made undone. It had gone well, of course it had, they were brothers, they knew what the other one wanted, needed, how the other one felt. Don was sitting on his couch and was really trying hard to forget the past few hours. He rubbed over his face as if he could erase the happenings and events, the words that had been spoken, the insults that had been made.

“Why…Why are you doing this?”

“Because it is the right thing to do, Charlie. Accept that!”

“No. No! I love you, Don. I am in love with you! I know I shouldn’t be, I am aware of the fact that our relationship contradicts everything that is right and proper. But I can’t change it! Don, please…”

Charlie approached his brother and brushed his lips over Don’s, softly caressing them with his tongue. Don drew back, Charlie came closer again. Then suddenly Don pushed his little brother roughly away so that Charlie stumbled a few steps backwards.

“Stop it!”, Don screamed at him. He frowned. “I do not love you, do you understand? I never have!”

Charlie stared at him in disbelief and shock.

“I don’t want you back.”

Don wanted to slap himself in the face. He had let Charlie slip away, as easy like that. He had looked into Charlie’s face, eyes glittering with tears, broken inside. In that moment he had known it; it would never be the same again between himself and his brother. He could not take back the things he had said, or better shouted. Charlie would avoid him, being around him, look at him, touch him. Everyone would get suspicious and both of them would need to find a way to explain without revealing too much.

Don realized that he had no lost only a lover that day, he had also lost his brother.
