Chapter 4

Some hours later she snapped out of her preoccupied thoughts as someone switched on a lamp. Rhiannon realised it had grown dark and that Bodie had not returned. He’d dropped her off around noon. It was now 6:00pm. Worriedly she went in search of Doyle. He was outside putting the cars away for the night.

“Mr. Doyle” Rhiannon called out to him, keeping up the pretence of being a guest at the house. Doyle waited till she reached him.

“Ray, Bodie’s not come back yet.’ She told him worriedly. “We had a fight and I’m worried about him.”

“Don’t worry, he’ll turn up. I told him to cut down the affection and to have a fight to let the good folk here know its not all wine and roses.” Doyle was not worried. Rhiannon put a hand on his arm and stopped him.

“No, you don’t understand, we had a real fight. I asked him about his father.” Ray tensed. This was not good.

“Please tell me you didn’t bring up that with him?” Glumly Rhiannon nodded.

“Shit, we have to find him and fast.” Rhiannon had too run to catch up with him.

They ran into Professor Harrington-Smyth inside the front doors.

“Mr. Bodie has not returned with the Harley and his wife is getting worried. We’re going to look for him.” Doyle explained like a dutiful employee.

“Fine, I do hope there is no damage to the bike, oh and Mr. Bodie of course.” He hurriedly added as an after thought.

“I’m quite sure your precious bike will be fine, I’m worried about my husband.” Rhiannon snapped and followed Doyle out to his car.

They’d been driving around for what felt like hours but it was actually only about an hour when Rhiannon spotted the bike chained under a street lamp in front of a pub.

“There it is!” Doyle screeched into the car park near the bike and got out. There was not any scratches on it so obviously Bodie had not been in an accident. Doyle headed towards the pub with Rhiannon close on his heels.

Doyle pushed open the door and walked in. The pub was only about half full and they spotted Bodie straight away. He was sitting at a table by himself but a pretty barmaid was hovering quite close by. He was staring into the glass like it held the secrets of the universe. He didn’t hear them approach but the barmaid bristled at the newcomers. Rhiannon glared at her. That look plainly said hands off, he’s mine.

“Bodie?” She crouched down and put her hand on his leg to get his attention. Slowly Bodie looked at her puzzled.

“WA?’ he slurred. Bleary blue eyes tired to focus on her.

“We’ve come to take you home luv.” Rhiannon ran her hand through his hair. “We’ve been looking for you.” She indicated Doyle hovering nearby.

“Like you care.” the barmaid said under her voice but Rhiannon heard her.

“I beg your pardon?” The barmaid held her ground.

“If I had a husband who loves me that much I would not let him out of my sight. All night he’s been going on about you. Rhiannon this and Rhiannon that and ‘if she leaves me I don’t know what I’ll do’. There’s nothing worse than a drunk in love and he’s both. God he loves you. You don’t know how damn lucky you are.” She glared at Rhiannon with eyes blazing with jealously.

“And how do you know I’m this Rhiannon he’s in love with?” Rhiannon asked as the barmaid snorted in disbelief.

“You’re xactly as he described ya and ‘sides he showed me the photo in his wallet.” What photo in his wallet? Rhiannon wondered. “I mean just look at ‘im” the barmaid nodded towards Bodie. Rhiannon looked down at him.

Bodie had somehow moved his chair closer to her and now was quite happily leaning against her with his hands lopped loosely around her hips, his head resting on her stomach. Rhiannon gently ran her hands through his hair. Bodie just snuggled closer.

“God, you’re as bad as he is.” The barmaid walked away in disgust.

“Come on luv, lets get you home.” Unsteadily Bodie got to his feet. He was absolutely plastered. He’d been on the much stronger stuff than beer. By the smell of him quite a few hefty whiskies. He was far too heavy for Rhiannon so Doyle took him.

“Some on Sunshine, lets get you home.” Doyle looped an arm around Bodie’s waist; dragged Bodie’s other arm over his shoulder and propelled Bodie out of the pub.

There was no way they were going to get him in the back of the Capri so Rhiannon climbed in the back and Doyle strapped Bodie in the front with the window right down.

“Sorry about the cold luv, but if he chucks hopefully it’ll go out the window and not all over the car.” Doyle explained. Rhiannon moved over to sit behind Doyle to get out of the direct wind stream.

“That’s OK. Do you think he will?” Bodie did not look well at all.

“Nah, not in the car. Well, he never has before but just in case.” Doyle took off out of the car park. He was driving at a very moderate pace, knowing Bodie would not appreciate the jostling about. Doyle had not seen him this drunk in a long time.

“Ray!” Bodie mumbled, opening one eye and quickly closing it again.

“Yeah, its me Sunshine, you OK?” Bodie nodded slowly.

“Rhiannon and I had a fight.” He mumbled just loud enough for Ray to hear him.

“Yeah I know, she sent me looking for you. She’s worried about you mate. Disappearing like that – not good.” Bodie slowly nodded. Too fast a movement made his head spin like the very devil.

“Yeah, I know but I needed to get away for a while. Sort some things out.” Doyle thought he’d dropped back of to sleep with the length of the silence in the car. “You ever wish you had a normal job with a beautiful wife to go home to and a heap of kids?” the longing in Bodie’s voice was so obvious. “Someone who loved you just for you and nothing else mattered?” Ray caught Rhiannon’s astonished look in the rear view mirror. ‘Keep him talking’ she mouthed.

“Yer, sometimes. I didn’t think that was your cup ‘o tea though. Bodie married is just not a picture I can conjure up easily.” Ray wanted to keep him talking.

“Its far easier to imagine that I ever thought it would be since Cowley sent us on this job.” Bodie replied playing with the wedding band on his left hand. Doyle had noticed Bodie started to play with the ring when his thoughts were troubled.

“You thinking of putting that there for real are you?” Doyle nodded toward the wedding ring. Bodie thought for a moment and then nodded reluctantly.

“Not that she’d have me.” He replied glumly.

“You don’t know that for sure.” Ray snapped furiously. He really hated it when Bodie put himself down. He didn’t do it often but when he did it really pissed Ray off.

“Yes I do. She wants kids, its so obvious Ray and I just can’t do it and I won’t do it. The thought scares the hell out of me. What if I’m no better than my bloody father. It’s better this way.” Bodie turned his head away.

“You love her, don’t ya?’’ Ray demanded. Bodie nodded slowly. He closed his eyes and pretended sleep. Yes I love her and I can’t damn well have her. Bodie thought depressed. Was love meant to hurt this much? He was not sure. He’d only been in real love once before and Krivas had killed her. A .44 at close range. Three days after she’d told Bodie she was carrying his child. Old hates surfaced and he was glad Krivas was rotting in some jail for life. Bastard.

“Come on Sunshine, we’re back. Lets get you to bed.” Doyle parked close to the entrance and opened Bodie’s door. The seatbelt was the only thing that kept him in the car. Chuckling to himself Doyle caught him and managed to get him out of the car. Bodie’s legs were none too steady. Doyle glanced in the back of the car. Rhiannon was asleep so she’d not heard Bodie’s admission.

Doyle dragged Bodie up the stairs and into his room. He dragged back the quilt and dropped Bodie onto the bed.

“Don’t leave me!” Bodie grabbed hold of Doyle hand.

“You don’t want me Sunshine, I’ll send Rhiannon up to you.” Bodie held on tighter. He wished Doyle would stand still and stop swaying.

“No, don’t tell her what I said Ray. Please.” Bodie was not so drunk he didn’t remember what he’d said.

“I won’t tell her. That’s up to you!” He left the room to go and get Rhiannon.

* * *

Bodie woke the next morning and immediately wondered who’d tried to kill him. He felt dreadful. Groggery he opened one eye and looked around the room. Slowly it came back to him where he was. The heavy velvet drapes were still drawn so the room was still dark. He threw back the covers and shivered. Someone had least managed to undress him. Probably Doyle he thought. Rhiannon would never had been able to lift him enough to get his clothes off. Shivering he dragged the blanket off the bed and wondered into the bathroom. He flushed the loo and swallowed a couple of painkillers and curled up in the big bed again.

“When will I remember what me head feels like the next day” Bodie grumbled and tired to get back to sleep. There was a little man with a jackhammer pounding away behind his eyes and his stomach was doing somersaults. A couple of good chucks had not helped either.

He managed to fall back into a light sleep but the sound of the bedroom door softly clicking open woke him again. Rhiannon was sneaking around the room trying to be quite.

“Its OK, I’m awake” he called out to her. Immediately she was at his side.

“How’s the head.” She kissed his forehead and settled his head in her lap.

“Killing me.” Bodie closed his eyes and just enjoyed her stroking his forehead. I could get very used to this he thought. Laying in a warm bed while a beautiful woman mothered him. “Sorry about yesterday. I never should have taken it out on you.” He apologised quietly.

“No I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have kept digging. Ray’s gone to get the bike.”

“He’s a mean old bastard,” Bodie said vehemently.

“Who Ray?” Rhiannon asked puzzled.

“No, my father.” Rhiannon’s caresses stopped momentarily but resumed.

“Tell me about him?” She asked softly. Hesitantly Bodie did. He’d never talked about his father to anyone before. Not even Dr. Ross.

“He used to beat the crap out of me mum and me. I hate him so much. He’s a mean violent drunk who blames everything that’s gone wrong in his life on me. I didn’t damn well ask to be born, especially to a father like that!” Rhiannon didn’t interrupt, just let Bodie talk.

“The amount of times I came home and found mum beaten and bloody. I quit going to school for a while to protect her. I went out and got a job thinking I could get us away from him but she wouldn’t go. I got big enough to fight back pretty soon. The first time I gave my old man a flogging he said I was exactly like him and that thought totally sickened me. I was about 13 and already bigger than he was. Anyhow I came home from work one day and the place was crawling with cops. He’d finally gone too far and killed her.” Rhiannon brushed away the tears that were falling as Bodie continued in a flat emotionless voice. Like it was someone else’s mother’s death, he was talking about.

“It was five days after my 14th birthday. One night I packed a bag with some clothes and a few pictures of mum and ran. I couldn’t stay one more day in that house with that miserable old bastard. His only complaint was that there was no one to cook and clean for him any more.” Bodie didn’t even realise tears were streaming down his cheeks. Rhiannon hugged him tight and rained soft kisses all over his face.

“Oh God Bodie, I’m so sorry for bringing it up.” She was still crying.

“Hey luv, its OK. I made it through and I’ve had one hell of an incredible life so far so I can’t complain. Don’t cry for me darling. I’m OK.” He brushed away the tears with surprise. The last time he’d cried had been at his ma’s funeral. The day he ran.

“Where is your father now?” Rhiannon asked.

“Prison, 25 years for murder.” Bodie sounded very pleased by that fact. The truth is he actually felt much better for telling someone.

“Come on lazy bones. Lets go for a walk.” Rhiannon pulled the covers off him and hustled him in the shower. Twenty minutes later, feeling much better Bodie walked downstairs holding hands with Rhiannon.

“Oh how very sweet.” Percival drawled as they came down the stairs.

“I’ve warned you once Percival, I won’t do it again so watch yourself.” Bodie lead Rhiannon outside and they strolled off.

“You’d best watch yourself with him around. He’s not as meek as he makes out.” Kate said watching them walk off. “There’s trouble in paradise I think. He took off yesterday lunchtime and his wife and Doyle had to go and find him at about 6:00. They brought him back plastered.” Percival was very interested by that piece of information.

“Likes a drink does our Mr. Bodie.” He walked away chuckling to himself.

“Has anyone said anything to you about these baby’s” Bodie asked.

“Yes Kate has. Said something about I was not stupid and that I knew we were here to buy a baby. I’ve never wanted to hit someone so badly before in my life. She’s repulsive and always going on about all of our money, or more precisely your money. I’m sure she’s trying to take you away from me.” Rhiannon was getting angry thinking about Kate. Horrible woman she thought.

“No chance of that luv. You’re stuck with me. I want to know when the babies are going to show up. We’ve been here for 10 days already. The can’t wait too much longer if we’re going to get em. Doyle’s collected some evidence from Professor Harrington-Smyth’s office but we need more. We need them to actually bring out the babies.” Bodie was trying to work out how to get them to do it.

* * *

An hour later they walked back into the front hall and chaos reigned supreme. The babies had arrived, all eight of em. Bodie stood there dumb struck.

“God, I never realised they made so much noise.” Four of em were crying, two were being fed and two being changed and the amount of stuff that accompanied them was astounding.

“Get used to it Mr. Bodie. We’ve found twins for you and your lovely wife.” Professor Harrington-Smyth clicked his fingers and a young girl brought over a baby. Bodie stuck his hands in his jean pockets. He did not want to hold the child but Rhiannon took it eagerly.

“Oh Bodie, isn’t he adorable.” The baby had dark hair. He was awake and didn’t seem worried by the racket that was going on. He had the unfocused blue eyes of a newborn. The young nurse returned and thrust a baby at Bodie. He had no choice but to take her. He glanced at Rhiannon in panic.

“Go on, she won’t hurt you” reluctantly Bodie took her.

“Oh my God, she’s so tiny.” He exclaimed amazed. The little girl was like a porcelain doll and she was also thankfully asleep. Bodie really did not want to be holding this tiny little thing. He’d handed guns that were heavier than she was.

From across the room he could see Doyle smirking at him. He’d never live this down.

“You don’t look too comfortable there Mr. Bodie. You’ll have to get used to it if you want them. Twins 3 days old, unnamed as yet of course. We can organise the transfer now if you like and you can take them home right away. Well?” Professor Harrington-Smyth demanded. This was the opportunity they needed but Bodie did not want to appear to eager.

“Why are they still unnamed?” Rhiannon asked.

“So when the birth certificates are issued yours are the only names on it. There will be no way to trace their birth mother. She will cease to exist.” Professor Harrington-Smyth said and Rhiannon felt her stomach roll at the unfeeling words. They were being sold off like puppies from a litter.

“We only wanted one!” Bodie said looking down at the tiny bundle sleeping so trusting in his arms. She hardly weighed a thing and Bodie was scared he’d hurt her.

“Yes but who gets that they want? You your son or Rhiannon her daughter. Can you make such a decision? But then we can always place them singly” Bodie wanted to smash Professor Harrington-Smyth’s smug face. He glanced down at Rhiannon. She was totally transfixed by the little boy she held. He was not much bigger than his sister was.

“OK, twins it is.” Bodie said resignedly and Rhiannon squealed in delight and kissed him. Kate came over snooping. Both noticed she didn’t have a baby.

“You’re getting both of them. Well aren’t you the lucky one?” She demanded sarcastically. Rhiannon had had enough of this bloody woman.

“Yes my husband loves me, shame you can’t say the same thing.” She turned her back on Kate very deliberately. Kate’s look was thunderous.

“Fine we’ll sign them over to you tomorrow at say 1:00. We’ll keep them till then. If they don’t suit, we’ll work something out. Go and enjoy yourselves tonight, it’s the last night of freedom you’ll have for the next 20 years or so.” He sauntered off.

“He makes ‘em sound like a new car or something.” Bodie mumbled to himself.

“He’s despicable. What a horrible man.” Rhiannon handed over the baby that the nurse came to take back. Bodie was only too glad to give back the little one.

Bodie saw Doyle heading their way and he knew he was going to cop it from him.

“Professor Harrington-Smyth has told me to take you into town and show you the night life. Your last night of freedom he’s calling it.” Doyle was grinning from ear to ear.

“OK, when?” Without even thinking about it, he’d taken Rhiannon’s hand.

“Say about 7:00. Give you a chance to get changed. There’s a nightclub that’s supposed to be pretty good.” Ray lowered his voice “we can set up back up for tomorrow from there too. No surveillance.”

“OK see you about 7:00 then.” Rhiannon dragged Bodie towards the stairs and up to their room.

As soon as they got inside she corner him against the bed and kissed him. Bodie had no idea why but he was not going to complain. Rhiannon let him go and started pacing around the room.

“Oh Bodie, did you see ‘em. Aren’t they just the most precious little darlings you’ve ever seen? One for each of us.” She was so excited you’d think they were really hers.

“Yer, but they’re so tiny. Should babies be that little.” Rhiannon smiled at him.

“Of course silly. They’re only 3 days old. We’ll have to name them. We can’t be calling them ‘he’ and ‘she’ for too long. Do you have any suggestions.”

Bodie gave her a quizzical look and shrugged his shoulders.

“No, you name ‘em then. I’ve never worried about that sort of stuff.” He had never thought he’d have to worry about naming children and he had no intention to start now.

“OK, I’ll have to think about it. I’m going for a shower.” She picked up her robe and headed towards the shower.

Bodie sat on the edge of the bed deep in thought. This had been a very low key operation, hell he didn’t even have a gun but he felt it was about the most important they’d ever undertaken.

“Poor kids” he mumbled to the empty room. “Being dumped on me.” The thought of children terrified him so he simply didn’t think about it. With a licentious smirk he slipped out of his clothes and joined Rhiannon in the shower. He still owed her.

Rhiannon gasped as a wet slippery Bodie grabbed her from behind and pulled her flush against him, two strong arms wrapped around her waist.

“I still owe you for the other morning.” He growled in her ear. Rhiannon shuddered.

“Do you now?” She replied cheekily. She could feel him pressed along her length. Tall, solid, masculine and oh so very sexy. He could melt the hardest of hearts with ease and Rhiannon never claimed to be hard hearted. She was falling fast but she was not the only one. Bodie had never felt this protective of anyone in all his life.

Bodie gently kicked her legs apart into the classic ‘frisk’ pose and soaped up his hands. Gently he reached up, so he was laying along her back and drew his soapy hands down her arm, leaving a trail of soap bubbles in their wake. When he reached her shoulder he reached up and did exactly the same to the other one. Rhiannon moaned at the erotic handling. Bodie slipped two soapy hands over her ribs and Rhiannon squirmed ticklishly and giggled.

“Ssh” Bodie whispered in her ear running his warm wet hands over her back and down to her buttocks, which he cupped and squeezed and massaged until Rhiannon thought she was going to come. She was so turned on it was amazing. Bodie knelt in the show and washed each ankle and foot and when he’d finished he placed a kiss on the arch of each foot and stood up again.

Rhiannon was nearly boneless with this treatment. A shower would never be as much fun again, unless of course Bodie was in it with her. Gently Bodie turned her around and kissed her. Long passionate kisses that had an obvious effect on him and a subtle one on her. Rhiannon tried to get hold of what she wanted.

“No you don’t. It’s your turn now.” Bodie kissed her neck and slowly travelled downwards. He kissed and sucked each breast in turn and Rhiannon could not stop the moan that escaped. He was no where near finished. Rhiannon could feel his smile against her breast. Lower and lower, he slid until he was kneeling before her. Bodie shook water and hair out of his eyes and gave Rhiannon the most sensual smile and leaned closer to taste her.

At the first touch of his mouth on her, Rhiannon thought she was going to collapse from the heat. “Ooh” she moaned but Bodie cupped her behind and held her up. Bodie gently tongued her again. Long soft strokes of his tongue like licking ice cream.

“Hmmm.” Bodie mumbled and went back for more. Rhiannon was panting, hands wound in his hair trying to say sane. It was a loosing battle; he was far too good at this. Bodie picked up the tempo and pressure and Rhiannon lost it.

“Oh, no more” she moaned as Bodie gently kissed her as she finished orgasming. With one swift movement, he hoisted her up and Rhiannon wound her legs around his waist and he penetrated her to the hilt in one swift thrust. They both moaned with the sensations.

“Oh jeez” he groaned and shifted her more comfortably and began to thrust. Rhiannon ran her fingers through his hair and nibbled on Bodie’s neck. He groaned, from the stimulation or the effort Rhiannon was not sure, neither did she care.

“Oh Bodie” she moaned as a second climax sent her over the edge, a moment later Bodie followed her. He was panting like he’d run a marathon as he slowly let Rhiannon slide down his body and put her gently back on the shower floor.

“Oh my God.” Rhiannon mumbled against Bodie’s chest for want of something better to say. She could feel his chuckles reverberating through his chest.

“Come on love, lets get ready.” He pulled her out of the shower and dried her off himself. Rhiannon returned the favour and they walked naked into the bedroom to finish getting ready.

Ten to seven the walked down stairs to wait for Doyle. He was waiting for them anyhow. Bodie was walking about three feet off the floor and Doyle knew exactly what they’d been up to. Lucky bastard he thought. Rhiannon looked terrific in a white shirt tucked into hugging jeans and high-heeled boots. A leather jacket finished it all off. It was cool out now but later, in the nightclub it would be all together too warm. Bodie had on his tight black jeans and the sapphire blue silk shirt that Rhiannon loved him in so much and his leather coat.

“Ready?” Doyle asked jangling the car keys.

“Yep, lets go.” They went out to the car and climbed in. They were all were looking forward to a night out and a good disco. It should be fun. Get away from all the pretending except Bodie was not pretending any more. He’d found what he wanted and he was damn well going to get it. How he was not sure – but he would.

* * *

Bodie and Doyle talked shop for a while. They’d spoken to Cowley and he’d organised backup for tomorrow afternoon and he’d reinforced Professor Harrington-Smyth’s opinion. Might as well have a night out, it didn’t happen often in the middle of an assignment. Rhiannon had given up trying to listen to their conversation the music was just too loud. As it was, Bodie and Ray were yelling directly in each other’s ear. They were deep in conversation when Rhiannon got up from their table.

“Where you going?” Bodie immediately asked her when she tried to leave.

“Ladies – I’ll be right back.” She walked off unaware the Bodie’s eyes followed her every move and he was not the only one.

”Have you told her yet?” Ray demanded

“Have I told her what?” Bodie kept his eyes on the door that Rhiannon had disappeared through. He was not prepared for when Ray smacked him.

“Ouch, what was that for?” Bodie glared at Ray and rubbed his arm.

“Don’t play stupid with me Bodie, you know damn well what I’m talking about. Have you told Rhiannon you love her yet?”

“No, not yet. I don’t know how to Ray. I’ve never told anyone that in my whole damn life. What if she laughs at me? Sides I want us to have some time together when we’re not on assignment. Do it properly, maybe when we’re not thrown together the attraction will diminish.” He was yelling in Ray’s ear and missed Rhiannon coming out of the ladies.

“Somehow mate, I really doubt that!” Ray nodded towards Rhiannon. Some big guy would not let her pass. Bodie was out of the booth in a flash and on top of him, fist drawn back ready to throw it.

“Bodie NO.” Rhiannon held onto his arm to prevent a scene. The hatred glowing out of those blue eyes was perspicuous.

“Hey sorry man, I didn’t know she was taken” he tried to apologise. Bodie shook his hand off angrily.

“Come on” Rhiannon dragged Bodie off the dance floor, Bodie was still shooting daggers with his eyes at the man.

“What the hell was that all about Bodie.” Ray demanded. So much for low key.

“Nothing, forget it.” But Rhiannon told him.

“Mr. Macho here getting his knickers in a knot. The man just asked if I wanted to dance. I said no, simple. You haven’t offered.” Bodie laughed at that. The tension broken.

“Subtle you’re not. OK Come on.” Bodie took her hand and led her onto the dance floor. They guy from earlier was there and noticeably tensed when Bodie went up to him.

“Hey sorry mate, no hard feelings. I’m just too protective for my own good.” Bodie stuck out his hand. Reluctantly the man shook it.

“Yer no worries, if I had a wife like that I’d be protective too.” The guy wondered off and Bodie dragged her onto the floor and started to dance.

He loved to dance. He and Ray often hit the discos back in London. A great way of picking up birds but Bodie reckoned those days were over. He’d found exactly what he was searching for. Bodie swung Rhiannon out in a twirl and caught her as she came back. Her face was flushed, hair loose and Bodie thought he’d never seen a more beautiful sight in his entire life. He loved fast rock n roll and you’d think they’d been dancing together for ages. A sexy rumba started and Bodie was entranced. Rhiannon swirled and danced around him. They were both plastered with sweat. It was bloody hot in the nightclub and Bodie was having a great time. Ray’d hooked up with some woman and was spinning her around the floor as well. He was obviously having a ball as well.

“OK ladies and gents, these next ones are for the romantics, so girls don’t let your men disappear on you.” The soft mellow sounds of a ballad came from the speakers. Bodie pulled Rhiannon close and slowly they stared dancing to the music. Bodie pulled Rhiannon closer and sweetly stared to sing to her.

“Open you heart to me.” Bodie sang in his deep sexy baritone while he held Rhiannon close as they danced to the slow, seductive music. Bodie’s breath on her ear and neck was causing goose bumps all down Rhiannon’s arms and lower. “You’ll get what ever you need, Oh but baby I would die for you.” Rhiannon closed her eyes, swaying with the music listening to Bodie sing. “Give into the charms of someone; lay back in the arms of someone you love” Bodie was only singing selected lines of the song, Rhiannon had never been serenaded before. Is there anything this man isn’t good at? She wondered in total amazement.

“So baby just call on me. I’ll be your lover; I’ll be your friend. And there’s nothing I won’t do. Please baby I just live for you. With nothing to hide, no need to pretend.” Bodie hoped Rhiannon knew what he was trying to tell her. He was not very good with love words so he used some one else’s and hoped she knew what was in his heart. He wanted to stand on the top of Tower Bridge and yell it to all of London, I love you Rhiannon! But he was not quite that brave, a private admission would have to do hell I’ve yet to get up the courage for that Bodie thought disgruntled. “Lay back in the arms of someone who loves you!” Bodie changed the words around a bit as the song ended and he stood in the middle of the dance floor and kissed Rhiannon. He didn’t give a damn who was watching and apparently, the whole club was.

“OK Sir you can let go of your wife now!” Rhiannon jerked away from Bodie with the DJ’s teasing words and quite a few people nearby laughed at Rhiannon’s blush. Bodie was chuckling also and he led her off the dance floor. Ray was sitting with the woman Bodie had seen him dancing with earlier.

“Hello” Rhiannon smiled at the woman. She was very pretty with dark brown hair and eyes. Like melted chocolate Rhiannon thought.

“Hi, I’m Shoshanna.” Bodie and Rhiannon slid back into the booth and picked up their dinks thirstily. “You’re very good dancers.” She continued.

“Thanks. So are you by the looks.”

“Ta, I like to dance but it’s hard to find good looking men that like too also. Looks like we struck it lucky here!” She laughed and snuggled up to Ray. Ray looked very pleased with himself. Probably with her number in his pocket, Bodie guessed accurately.

It was after 3:00 when they finally got back. It had been a terrific night. Both men had agreed they’d never been on assignment quite like this one before. They were dropping Shoshanna home so Bodie had climbed in the back seat with Rhiannon and as soon as she climbed in he’d pulled her close and tucked her in to his body. Not that I’m complaining Rhiannon thought snuggled up to him. She drifted off to sleep cradled protectively in his arms, listening to his heartbeat. Bodie gently kissed the top of her head and smiled.

“Wakie, wakie sunshine, we’re back. Wake your lady up.” Ray pulled up and parked the car. Both of em were asleep in the back of the car, snuggled up like puppies in a litter. Ray smiled at them. He’d never seen Bodie this happy and he hoped it would all work out. From what Ray had gathered Bodie’d had a pretty crappy childhood and been on his own ever since. He deserved to be happy.

“Huh,” Bodie asked drowsily from the back seat.

“We’re back. Come on Sunshine, I want to get to my own cold, lonely bed too you know.” Bodie snorted.

“Yer will you wouldn’t be if we were home. You’d definitely have company. Pretty lady that Shoshanna. You’re in with a chance there.”

“Yer, don’t I know it.” Ray chuckled, his filthy chuckle.

“Come on love, we’re back.” Rhiannon was still snoozing and in no mood to be woken up. “Come on luv,” Bodie dragged her out of the car and she pouted at him.

“Meanie!” Rhiannon said. She just wanted to climb into bed. Bodie chuckled and swept her up in his arms and carried her inside. And he reckons I’ve got a romantic streak Doyle thought laughingly watching them.

Bodie carried Rhiannon up to their room and dropped her on the bed. She was practically asleep standing up. Bodie knew what it was like to be that tired but hers was from drinking and dancing not 48-hour surveillance. Bodie dropped her on the bed, pulled off her jacket, and threw it over the chair. Rhiannon kept dozing off so Bodie undressed her and tucked her in. He peeled off the white shirt; it was still wet with sweat. He smiled at the memory of her dancing around him, wild and abandoned and so sexy. He pulled off her boots and peeled off the jeans. They would put Ray’s to shame for tightness but God she looked fabulous in ‘em. All sexy curves and long loose auburn hair. He brushed the hair back from her face and gently kissed her.

“Oh God Rhiannon, I love you!” He whispered against her temple. She rolled over, snuggled into his warmth, and slept on. Bodie swiftly finished getting his clothes off, climbed under the covers with her, and pulled her naked body close. More content and happy than he could ever remember being Bodie nodded off to sleep with his love held tight in his arms. He’d always believed love to be a figment of someone’s imagination. He’d never believed in it himself.
