Hooked
Chapter 4
Greg and Jeri sat down at the diner table. He couldn't help but stare at her as she balled up napkins and had a napkin-snowball fight with the kid behind her. Even the kid's mom was laughing happily. She had that effect on people, he had noticed. Her smile was the most radiant he had ever seen in his life. Her eyes were as bright and clear as blue diamonds. He didn't notice her starring at him until her and the kid both threw some paper snowballs at him, shaking him from his dream land. Jeri just laughed and smiled his way.
“You know, starring is rude,” she quiped, a smile playing across her lips.
“Yea sorry, you're just very pretty ya know,” Greg said, blushing bright crimson.
“Let's get outta here,” Jeri suddenly whispered, her eyes flashing intently.
Greg started the SUV looking over at Jeri. She had just hopped in the car, having re done her make up in the diner bathroom, she looked over at Greg and what he saw surprised him. In place of her cheery prep makeup was black and red eyeshadow, black and purple lipstick and her hair was spiked.
“Ready to roll?,” she asked in a wicked tone.
“What happened to your makeup?,” Greg asked, shocked.
“I feel better in my own skin when I'm the way I wanna be and not the way everyone thinks I should be,” she says, looking him dead in the eyes.
Greg can only nod as he puts the midnight SUV in gear and starts to drive to his place. She propped her left foot up on the dash and poppped her My Chemical Romance cd into the cd player and starts singing along. He was blown away by the way this young woman trusted him. He suddenly felt very honored to have her trust. He thought of all the girls that turned him down because he was geeky and nerdy. Them, and Sara Sidle. At one time, he was in love with Sara. But now, he was going through the motions. She didn't seem to care about him like that. But this girl, she did act like she wanted him to care.
“Earth to Greg, wasn't that your house we just passed,” Jeri said, looking at the address on the card Grissom had given her in case Greg and her got seperated.
“FUCK,” Greg shouted as he quickly turned in a nieghbors driveway, finally getting to his house.
With shaking hands, Greg unlocked his front door, remembering his house was in a state of semi-disaster. When Jeri bounced in, however, she didn't really see to care. If something was in her way, she kicked it out of her way. Simple as that. Then he remembered her room and laughed to himself. His was almost clean compared to her house keeping. Soon, she was looking through his closets and such with such a childlike curiosity that he couldn't stop her. She seemed happy at everything she found in his house.
“OH MY GOD! I loved this when I was a kid!,”she exclaimed happily as she pulled out an old Super NES and some games. “Can we play Greg? Please?”
Greg smiled looking at her pleading puppy dog eyes and took it from here and hooked it up in the living room as she danced and cheered.
After about three loses at Paper Boy, Greg was about to give up. Jeri was on her third victory dance, shaking her rear as she hooted and hollered about being way better when it hit him. He was falling for this girl. She suddenly turned and smiled at him, breathing heavy and sweating from the dancing and she smiled. He was hooked.
