The shift flew by and Grissom was packing up to head home. He caught movement out of the corner of his eye and turned expecting to see Sara in his office doorway, but instead it was Michelle. “I’m glad I caught you before you left. You have a few minutes to talk?” Grissom nodded and he couldn’t help but become nervous when Michelle walked into his office and closed the door behind her.
Sara walked down the hall toward Grissom’s office and stopped when she saw the closed door. Through the window she could see Grissom inside talking to Michelle and she started to walk away. Warrick, Nick and Catherine were coming behind her when she turned. “Hey Sar. You up for breakfast?” She smiled as Nick threw his arm around her shoulder. “Come on now. You know you’ll just go home and start talking to your Boy Toy, and what you really need is food.”
Sara smiled. “You’re probably right, and I do need to eat. So I guess I’ll tag along. At least it’s less depressing than eating alone.”
Nick sauntered off to the locker room to grab his stuff and Catherine noticed the meeting going on inside Grissom’s office. “What’s that about?”
Sara shrugged, “I don’t know. It looks like she cornered him right when he was getting ready to leave.”
Warrick quietly scoffed, “Yeah she’s good at cornering him.” His comment went unnoticed by the women and they left for the parking lot leaving Nick to catch up.
Grissom left his office and sent a text message to Sara. He had planned on meeting her after work, but Michelle’s impromptu meeting put a stop to him leaving on time. He was not in the best of moods and really didn’t feel like cooking, so he swung by the diner down from the lab. Walking inside he saw his team at their usual table and Sara looking at her Sidekick. He quickly switched his off, just in case she sent a message before she realized he was there. Nick looked up and saw him first.
“Hey Griss. We were going to invite you, but you were in a meeting when we were leaving.”
Grissom rolled his eyes as he pulled up a chair. “Yeah she cornered me before I could get out of there.”
Catherine smirked. “Well she probably heard you don’t go to meetings willingly, or read memos for that matter. ”
Grissom shook his head. “If she wanted to talk, that’s one thing. But shift was over, I was on my way out, and I had somewhere to be this morning.”
Nick chuckled. “Oh I’m sure your lady will understand why you’re late. Just head over and make it up to her.”
Grissom shot a glare Nick’s direction. “Nick my personal life is not up for discussion. Besides, she’s not home.”
Catherine got a chill from the look in Grissom’s eyes. “So what happened with Michelle anyway? What did she want?”
Grissom saw the concerned look on Sara’s face across the table briefly before he dropped his head and sighed. “Cath I really don’t want to talk about it. Not now, preferably not ever.”
Before Catherine could form an argument, he was out of his chair and heading for the door. Everyone at the table was stunned at his mood and sudden departure. They all exchanged looks and wondered what was eating Gil Grissom.
Michelle watched her companion across the table and smiled. He really did have a brilliant mind. She watched him absently stir his coffee as he spoke. “So you really think this will work?”
Michelle smirked and looked out the window of the small out of the way diner. “I told you, I can handle him. By the time I’m finished, he won’t know if he’s coming or going. And he definitely will be out of your hair for good.”
Her companion chuckled. “Good. He’s been a thorn in my side for far too long. The sooner you can get him out of my lab, the better.”
Sara leaned on the door and sighed. Coming home to an empty apartment had become much more depressing since she began her relationship with Grissom. Now that Michelle Ecklie had removed the department policy hurdle, she hoped that they could go public with their relationship soon. Just the thought of Michelle Ecklie made her shudder. There was just something about that woman Sara didn’t trust.
She dropped her purse and keys on the island and checked her sidekick for messages. Nothing. She dialed his personal number and was directed straight to voice mail. *That’s odd. Grissom always answers.* On a whim she dialed his house phone and was disappointed when she got his answering machine. She sat down and picked up the quilt block she was working on. *I’m sure he’ll call when he gets in. I just wonder where he is, and what got him so upset.*
Grissom sat on a rock overlooking Lake Mead lost in his thoughts. He should have been overjoyed with Michelle’s policy change, but something wouldn’t let him. Maybe it was her flirting that made him uncomfortable. Maybe it was that Warrick saw it and assumed the worst. Maybe it was because he knew Warrick had a point. If Sara had seen that scene it would not have made her happy, regardless of the fact that he was innocent. His mind replayed the meeting at the end of shift as he wondered what to do next.
(earlier in Grissom's office)
“So Grissom, what do you think of my little changes in policy?”
“I think the staff will appreciate less paperwork. I know I certainly will.”
“And what about the other? Do you think that will cause a problem with your staff doing their jobs?”
Grissom felt his anger rise at the implication. “My staff members are professionals. There isn’t any policy that would change that.”
Michelle smiled. “Hey I’m just asking. You know these people better than I do. Speaking of which, if anyone on your shift does start dating someone in the office, I need you to let me know. The sheriff is behind me on this, but there are quite a few people in administration who aren’t. I need to know so I can run interference.”
Grissom looked shocked. “Interference? Or are you just trying to find out who you can make trouble for?”
“Look I know you don’t have any reason to trust me, but can you just cut me a little slack here? I’m not the bad guy. You seem awfully defensive. Is there something bothering you?”
Grissom shot her an angry look, “Well considering you popped in here as shift was ending, I was about to leave, and had plans this morning, you might say that.” Michelle apologized for keeping him and briefly explained why it was so urgent that it couldn’t wait.
Grissom understood her intentions, but now her explanation put him in a precarious position and he hated it. Secrets were never good in a relationship, and this one could destroy them all.

Sara woke to a rapping on her door and opened it to find a sleepy Grissom leaning against the wall. Before she could speak Grissom was through her door with his lips crushed against hers as he walked her backward. She could taste the whiskey on his breath and amended her earlier observation from sleepy to drunk. His hands drifted across her back and he slipped one up under the loose t-shirt she wore. Sara pulled back to catch her breath and looked into his eyes. Those deep blue eyes she loved were now red tinged and clouded with passion. Sara stopped their backward progress by the kitchen island. “Gil.”
Grissom stopped and looked at her noting the concern on her face. “What’s wrong sweetheart?” Sara ran her lightly ran hands up and down his arms. “I was going to ask you that. You left the diner so suddenly, you were obviously in a bad mood when you left, you haven’t been answering your cell, you haven’t been home, and now you show up at my door after you’ve been drinking. This isn’t like you.”
Grissom sighed and slid his arms around her waist. “Yes I’ve had a few drinks, but I’m not drunk if that’s what you’re wondering. I was in a lousy mood this morning. I planned to spend it with you and got cornered in my office for a meeting that in my honest opinion could have waited. I drove out to Lake Mead for a while and I’m sorry I didn’t answer my cell. When I saw you at the diner you were looking at yours so I switched mine off in case you sent a text before you saw me. I must have forgotten to turn it back on.”
Sara tilted her head and watched him, waiting for him to continue. “I got back from the lake and did what I do when I’ve had a bad day. I go home and have a drink, or I stop by a sports bar not far from my place. Today I went by the bar. I had two drinks and couldn’t stand being away from you for another minute.” He pulled her tighter against him and looked into her deep brown eyes. “Two weeks is far too long for me to go without touching you.” His lips descended on hers and this time were met with a passion that matched his own. Her hands tangled in his hair as he lifted her by her ass and sat her on the island. Her protests were overtaken by her gasps of pleasure as his lips moved from hers to her neck, working lower.
Grissom stripped her t-shirt off as he kissed and nipped her creamy flesh. He smiled against her skin as he heard her moans of pleasure when he teased her nipples through the fabric of her bra. One hand pulled a breast from her bra as the other unsnapped her jeans and dove inside. Sara’s body was aflame under the duel assault of Grissom’s tongue and fingers. Her desire to feel him again overshadowed her common sense that screamed for them to move to the bedroom. Her mind barely registered Grissom pulling on her jeans and panties in time to lift her bottom to allow him to remove them. The cool counter was a sharp contrast to his warm hands running over her thighs. Sara opened her eyes and looked at him, his blue eyes were like sapphires glittering with mischief as he dipped his head and lightly brushed his beard across her stomach. He smiled at her sharp intake of breath and shifted to sit on one of her bar stools as he worked his way lower. He glanced up at her as she smiled and leaned back on her elbows, granting him full access to her body. He had done this before and she was well aware of his technique, but he surprised her. Instead of his usual teasing and nipping, his lips moved straight to her core and two fingers slipped inside her. The effect was immediate as her orgasm exploded over her making her cry out and gasp the edge of the counter. Still Grissom did not ease as he continued to suck and tease her with his tongue. His fingers continued to work in and out of her constantly hitting that bundle of nerves inside that sent her over the edge once more.
Sara was breathless with what felt like a continuous orgasm when she reached for Grissom. Her fingers brushed his curls and he glanced up at her face, flushed and sweating, her chest heaving with every breath. When he paused to look at her she was able to catch her breath enough to say “in me..now” which was all the encouragement he needed. Grissom continued to lick and finger her as he unzipped his pants with the other. He sucked hard on her clit and as her orgasm claimed her once more he stood and sheathed himself in her in one stroke. Sara wrapped her legs around his waist and grabbed his shoulders as he thrust into her. His hands slid under her back, pulling her to him, and she wrapped her arms around his neck as their mouths met for a bruising kiss. His strong thrusts forced her to hold onto him tightly as she kissed and sucked on his neck and shoulder. He kept thrusting until he heard Sara’s voice by his ear, “bedroom”.
He managed to walk them the short distance to her bedroom and onto Sara’s bed without incident. Sara looked up at him with a devious glint in her eye as she stretched her arms above her head like she had done while they were in Pittsburgh. Grissom took the hint and pinned her arms before thrusting hard into her once more. It wasn’t long before their climaxes rushed over them leaving them both panting and boneless. They caught their breath and Grissom stripped off his clothes while Sara turned down the blankets for them. He pulled the blankets over them and curled his body around her back. She smiled when she felt him brush her hair behind her ear and wrap his arms around her. “I love you Sara.” She turned her head to face him. “I love you too Gil.”
Whatever else was bothering him, it could wait until they woke. He wasn’t sure how he was going to handle Michelle and the lab just yet, but he vowed that nothing would come between him and Sara.
