ch 4

They were settling in nicely on their island. They had been there nearly a month and saw no one. They wondered if people were looking for them but really didn’t care if they were found.

“What is for dinner tonight?” Grissom asked.

“What did you catch me?”

“Some fish, some crab. What would you like?”

“What do you fancy?”

“Fish for a change, I guess.”

“Then fish it is.”

He kissed her softly on the neck. “You look beautiful. You are glowing.”

“I am fat, look at the belly.”

“I guess I feed you well?”

“Actually, we have bigger fish to fry.”

“We do?”

“Remember how sore I was and I thought it was nearly that time?”

“Yes.”

“Well, that time never came.”

“It didn’t? What does this mean?”

“I’m pregnant.”

He pulled her into his arms. “That is so great.”

“I am glad you think so.”

Long faces filled the room. People were all dressed in black, the color of mourning.

Conrad Ecklie stood at the front of the room. “We are here today to honour our lost comrades. Sadly will be missed Dr Gilbert Aaron Grissom and Sara Sidle Grissom.” Sobs ran out through the room.

“Do any of his colleagues wish to speak about Dr Grissom or Sara?”

Catherine stood up and walked to the stage. “I wish to thank Gil for helping me become who I am. Without him, I shudder as to where I would be. I was a crack-addicted stripper when Gil found me. I was a witness to a case. He convinced me I was better than who I had become. I enrolled in college the next day and started working part time here at the lab.” Catherine broke down. “I can’t go on.” She returned to her seat.

Ecklie was on the stage again. “Anyone else wish to speak?”

Jim Brass stood up. “Gil and I were very good friends. In spite of his bugs, he was a real good guy, had a great deal of heart. As for Sara. I saw her as the daughter I should have raised. I will miss them both.” Brass returned to his seat.

Greg stood up and walked to the stage. Catherine hugged Grissom’s mom.

“Tori, it will be okay.” Catherine assured her.

“I won’t even get grandchildren. My fifty-year old son just got married.” She broke down. Catherine soothed her.

“I can always be grateful to Grissom for giving me a chance. Thanks to him I am now a CSI. I am sure all of us have learned something from Grissom in the time we have known him. AS for Sara, she was always there for me when I needed it.” Greg returned to his seat.

Warrick took the stage. “I will be forever grateful to Griss for not giving up on me. He could have fired my ass long ago but he believed in me. In spite of Sara investigating me we eventually became very good friends. We are gonna miss you both.”

Nick took the stage. “I will be forever grateful Grissom for not giving up on me when I was buried alive.” He choked up. “I can’t go on.”

Ecklie took the stage again. “Can we all stand please for a moment of silence for out departed comrades.”

They all hung their heads. Tears were flowing to the floor. Once the silence was over the room vacated.

They all hugged outside and they shared tear stained shoulders. Tori looked to Greg. “Would you mind taking Gil’s bugs. I can’t bear to get rid of them but I can’t bear to feed them either.”

Greg hugged her. “I would be honoured.”

“I am sure Gil would be happy with that.”

“Tori, we will be over in a couple days to help you pack up Gil’s townhouse.” Catherine told her hugging her again.

“Thanks dear. I want to get some things out before I pack things up to go to good will.”

“What are you doing with his books?” Warrick asked.

“I don’t know yet. Why? Did you want them?”

“Would you mind?”

“No. I am sure he would approve.”

“Did Gil have a will?” Brass asked.

“Yes. I will double-check it. But over his personal possessions I have control. I am sure he would appreciate it more if his friends got them and remembered him by them.”

Tori collapsed in a fit of tears and retreated to her car.

Grissom put four more walls together and Sara helped him fasten them up. They attached the roof and secured it. He insulated it well and attached another wall inside. He wanted it to be warm for the baby.

Sara sat back and watched him work. He was getting nicely defined muscles. Sara liked his new look. He only wore a small sarong and he was nicely tanned. She enjoyed just sitting back and watching him. His muscular arms flexing as he lifted things. Those same muscular arms held her when they made love. Just thinking about it made her want him more and more.

Sara sneaked up behind him and kissed his neck. He turned to face her.

“What can I do for you?”

Sara took his hand and led him to the beach; she kissed him and ran her hands over his body. “You are some sexy. Watching you work really does me in.” Sara huffed.

“That’s all it takes?”

“These days. I guess you can thank junior here.” She patted her belly.

“Remind me to thank him later.” He growled.

He braced himself up on his hands and kissed her hard. He slowly began to devour her body. Sara giggled and wriggled under him.

“You are so beautiful.”

“I am the only choice you have.” Sara giggled.

“I wouldn’t trade you if I didn’t.”

“Flatterer.” Sara giggled. “Gil, sweetie. I love you to death, but you have to cut the beard. You are beginning to remind me of Father Christmas.”

“I will remedy that as soon as we are done. What about the hair?”

“I like the curls. They can stay but the beard needs a trim.”

Sara wrapped her arms around him and they began to move in sync. Sara was so used to him. Anytime, anywhere, the island was their paradise. They never got interrupted. It was great. Since their time on the island, Sara became a three and four times a day kinda girl. She was one very hormonal pregnant woman, not that Grissom was complaining.

They finished up and they went investigating. “I need to find some shells to break so that I can trim my beard. Somebody doesn’t like it long.”

Sara pouted.

“I can’t see it so I will trust your judgement.”

“Good.” Sara picked up a shell and passed it to him. “Will this work?”

“Looks good.”

They continued hand in hand along the coastline.
