Wake Up Older
Chapter Three ~ Come Clean
(May 23, 2005)
Veronica sighed once more, her eyes squinting in frustration as she heard the click of Logan's voicemail pick up once again.
"This is him, you know what you want, now tell me at the beap."
She was almost tempted to hang up, not leave another message but something stopped her, she knew that eventually he would have to get tired of her filling up his message box so she waited for the beep and tried not to sound as needy as she actually was.
"Hey, Logan. It's me...again. I guess your still not up to talking, thats okay. I just wanted to make sure your still, you know, breathing or whatever. Look I need to talk to you, so just, you know, call me or something. I'll call you later....oh, this is Veronica, just in case you know you didn't get that..bye." With a sound of disgust Veronica threw her cell down on the bed beside her, satisfied with the distinct plop it made on the water matress.
It had been almost two weeks since the night he left and she hadn't spoken to him once, and he had yet o contact anyone in Neptune. Even Duncan was starting to get alittle worried. It was actually starting to look like Logan Echolls was gone for good, everyone was saying so. Alot of 09ers were even saying they thought her was dead, you know like his Mom. But Veronica knew better. She knew that he had to be alive somewhere, because if he were dead his voice mail box would've been overloaded days ago with her calls alone, not to mention Duncan's.
So she knew he was okay, physically anyway, she couldn't say with to much conviction that he was in the best emtional shape. He had pretty messed up when he left. She just wished he would call, or text her or send up a smoke signal are something. Anything was better than this constant wondering.

Okay this was getting to be just annoying. It had been over a month and still the only contact Veronica had with Logan at all was leaving voicemail messages and praying that he was still getting them. It had gotten to the point where she was just calling every other day instead of twice a day. But now Veronica had finally got to her breaking point. She sat down on the edge of the coffee table in her living room, much the same way as she did the last time she saw Logan and quickly dialed his phone number from memory.
The voice mail picked up after two rings, which really pissed her off, knowing that this time he had ignored her call. As soon as the tone sounded Veronica started in on him. "Hey there Logan, this is Veronica, you remember me, Veronica Mars the girl you left high and dry, the girl you've been running from for the past month like a little baby. Yeah that's me. Look I'm just calling to let you know that I'm sick of worrying about you, I am sick and tired of leaving you sappy messages begging you to call me and getting nothing, so this is my last message. Here's the deal, either you contact me, and soon or I'm going to erase you, from my mind and heart, and if I do that Logan you'd better never step a foot back in Neptune, make your choice and fast. I am not bluffing."
Sitting back, very happy with herself Veronica smiled, her face flushed and her heart racing. It felt good to finaly get her balls back and put her foot down. She just hoped it wouldn't backfire.

Veronica rolled over in her bed, feeling the slosh of the water sway her side to side. She clowly opened her eyes and felt a rush of panic, wondering what had woken her up at this hour. She glanced up at the clock and groaned at the time, it was after three o clock. Then she heard it again, the steady thrum of a virbrator coming from her bedside table. She felt goosebumps break out all over her skin when she realized it was her cell that was vibrating, letting her know she had a message.
She quickly grabbed it from the table and forced her eyes to adjust enough to see the screen. Her heart leapt when she saw the alert on the screen (You have 1 new text) She quickly selected the option to read it and held her breath when the call back number told her it was from Logan.
It said simply 'Don't let go'.

Wallace turned his head and fought back a grin as he watched Veronica, her smile the first truly happy one he had seen in awhile. She really was something when she was happy. They were laying out in the sun, the smell of salt water surrounding them and the sound of kids laughing, seagulls over head and the waves crashing seemed to bring her peace.
It had been a hard couple of months for her and Wallace was all to aware of that fact. He was suprised that she had agreed to this outing today. Especially since it had been over a week since she had heard anything from Logan.
After his first text meassage Veronica had been convinced that he was better and was coming home. Until he had sent her a another text a week later telling her he was never coming back, that he was happy alone, away from everyone. It crushed her but Veronica still believed that he would return one day and she was determined to be there when he did. So she keep leaving him voice mails and checking her inbox constantly. For awhile he wrote to her everyday, just a word or two, to let her know he was okay. He had even left her a voice mail or two, just saying 'Hi, it's me' and then hanging up, but it was progress.
But then early last week the messages had stopped, at first Verionca was okay with it, she didn't really worry, but the past few days had been hard without hearing from him. So Wallace was shocked when she agreed to go out with him, and suprisingly she had also agreed to leave her cell at home, turned off.

Her cell phone had stayed off for almost five days, then she broke down, she needed to know if he had called or sent a text. She was weak, she knew that and was coming to accept it.
Her heart punded as she sat there, at her desk with her hand pressed on the on key, waiting for the welcmong screen to go away and her display to come up and tell her of any new messages. She almost jumped out of seat when the screen said you have to new texts and one new voicemail.
She quickly scanned the texts and was dissapointed to see they were just from her aol buddy list. Then she nervously listened to her Voice Mail menu options and she held her breath when she listened to her one new message. She bit her tounge in excitement.
She waited for the beap and her heart stopped when she heard his voice, then one she had been longing to hear for almost two weeks now.
"Veronica, .....Ronnie, please call me back, soon ..." He paused and Veronica's eyes closed in happiness as he said the words she had been dying to hear "....I need to see you.."
