Previously, on BZ, Chapter 3

As she sat patiently on the edge of Justin's small bed, Daphne mused, looking around the room as she waited for Justin to bring up the glass of milk she'd been craving, asking herself, 'I wonder what it is Justin wants to talk to me about? What is so important that he feels he needs to say it in here?'

"Daphne?" Justin's strong young voice sounding more mature than his actual 18 years, came from the hallway as he entered the room carrying her tall, frothy, white calcium treat.

Walking over to her he handed her the glass, and then twisted off the plastic top of his bottle of water.

After taking a few sips he replaced the lid and walking over to his dresser sat it down, turning to face her saying, "I know you're probably wondering why I asked you to come in here to talk."

Pausing he took a trembling breath, and released it with a shaky sigh, saying, "Please, Daphne, please hear what I have to say before jumping to conclusions, okay?"

At her hesitant nod, he continued, "This being our senior year and all, I feel we owe it to ourselves to

Taking her silence as a good thing, he pressed on. "So, if you haven't made any plans to go, I would like for us to go together as friends."

At her tiny nod, he breathed a sigh of relief. 'Okay, that was easy enough, let’s hope this next bit doesn't send her running from the room.' He told himself dryly, channeling his inner Brian.

"NO!" He told himself sternly.

Brian Kinney had had been given more than enough chances to fix things between them.

More than enough tears had he shed in deep sorrow at the older man's contemptuous view on all things relationship.

If Justin needed any reminders, all he had to do was think back and remember, and feel his heart break just a little bit more.

He'd been so sure, so fucking sure that he could win the love, that he could win the heart of the captivating tall Irish man.

From the moment their eyes had met across that street. Justin had just known, he just knew his soul had met its mate.

And, although he'd spent these last few frustrating months trying to convince the older man of just that fact, deep down inside, he also knew this, Brian Kinney would never change.

And, Brian Aidan Kinney never did anything he really didn't want to.

So, Justin's solution was simple.

It was the right thing to do for all concerned.

He and Daphne Chanders had been friends for as long as he could remember having a friend.

Justin had known Brian Kinney, a little over a year.

He and Daphne would soon be parents.

Even after almost a year, Justin still had no real clue just what the fuck he and Brian were to each other.

Justin knew how he felt about the exasperating man, but, with all of the walls Brian had built up around himself, around his heart, Justin doubted that even a good shout, wouldn't bring them tumbling down.

And, even if it did, the fallout from the debris would choke his spirit.

Also, when it came right down to it? Brian Kinney was more like the Tin Man.

Tall, slender, beautiful and hollow...He had no heart.

And, Justin could simply not wait around for someone to show him the way to the Wizard, to beg for him to give Brian one.
So, his next logical step was an easy one.

Getting down on one knee in front of his best friend, the mother of his unborn child, in front of the bed they had created that child on, looking up into her pretty face, his cerulean gaze was steady.

Smiling a beautiful smile, he held up a tiny black velvet ring box with the name of a local prestigious jeweler emblem in gold across the top of it.

Justin's smile grew wider at her fine arched brow.

Slowly, very slowly opening it up, his intense stare never leaving her pretty brown eyes, his smile grew brighter, as her chocolate-hazel eyes grew wider.

And, when her jaw dropped, he lifted a finger to push it gently closed.

Nestled inside was a slender white gold and platinum band, encrusted with three half carat pink diamonds.

Sensing her approval, for after all, they had practiced this very act, many times as children.

On her teddy bears, on her Barbie and Ken dolls, and then later on each other when they'd played house.

But, both of them knew this was not make believe, and both of them knew the many reasons behind his actions.

In fact, Justin could honestly say, Daphne knew him better than anyone on the planet.

Reaching for her hand not holding the milk, Justin clearly and proudly said, "Daphne J. Chanders, would you grant me the honor, and the privilege of becoming my wife?"

Releasing her hand slowly, when an answer either way didn't spill from her lips, nervously Justin bit on the end of his thumbnail, awaiting her reply, and wondering at her silence.

~10 minutes later~

AKA, the actual Chapter 4 of BZ

Justin glanced up at her, still waiting....

And waiting...

And waiting...

Then, he heard it.

One word.

It was spoken was so softly.

Yet the weight of its implications was so heavy.

"No."

And, it echoed in his mind and through out all of the chambers of his breaking heart.

His dad didn't want him...

Brian didn't want him...

And now, the one person he'd always thought would want him, would love him no matter what, his best friend Daphne, the mother of his unborn child, didn't want him...

And, if they all didn't want him, was it because he was just, perhaps, unlovable?

He didn't want to ask, but it was killing him, and he just had to know.

One little three lettered word, a word that could change this, could possible turn it all around.

Telling himself, 'here we go'...He mentally braced himself for her reply as he softly said, "Why."

Catching the half-full glass of milk with one hand, and snapping shut the tiny black velvet box with the fingers of his other, looking up into her cold and angry eyes, Justin gasp, dropping the ring box, and quickly putting his hand over the glass to keep it from spilling, fell back on his butt as she yelled, "You have GOT to be fucking kidding me Justin Craig Taylor!"

She fumed, standing up quickly and walking away toward his dresser to unscrew the cap off of his bottle of water.

Keeping her back to him, she said through clenched teeth, "Very funny Jus. Now cut the shit okay?"

Tipping up the little green bottle, she took a healthy swig.

Turning around and looking down at him wordlessly she insinuated with a wave of the green bottle held tightly in her hand.
At his shrug, she tipped it again and finished it all, slamming it back down with a bang.

As Justin watched her, it hit him again at just how in sync they were in so many ways.

Now, more determined than ever, he decided on a different route.

Schooling his face to indifferent, after slipping the soft ring box back into his pants pocket, he carefully got up, and walking over to her, handed her back her glass of milk.

She took it between her trembling hands. After carefully sitting it down on the dresser, she was then quickly moving back to the edge of the bed.

He watched her as she sat down, took a deep breath, then after slowly blowing it out, she quietly said, "Justin, I, I really don't know what to say. Of all the things I was expecting you to say, hoping you would say, actually having you ask me to marry you wasn't it."

His usually expressive face remained blank as he was motioning for her to continue with an impatient wave of his hand.

With a small shrug she began.

"When I was a little girl, and we would play, well you know, marriage, it just seemed, well, right and fun and, well Justin that was just it, it was play."

Looking over at him, not an emotion on his face giving him away, she continued, "Okay, so, now we are 18, and wow, soon we're gonna have our Prom, and, thank you for asking me to it by the way, and, then we'll be graduating High School, and, well, yeah, so we're gonna be parents, but, um, I kinda thought um, you know," She rambled.

Kicking her small feet, she quickly ducked her head, her curly brown hair tumbling foreword to hide her pretty face as she whispered softly, "That we'd be like Brian and Lindsay."

Justin felt his battered heart drop to his toes at those words.

His mouth, first opening and then closing.

Feeling such a hurt and than anger building in him, he lashed out, "What, you really think SO fucking little of me?" He said with deadly calm.

Once again, her silent shrug gave him her hurtful answer.

“You honestly believe that I'd be content with being JUST a drop in parent?" He ground out, willing his threatening tears to stop, feeling his hands balling into tight fists.

The continuing silence surrounded him, sharp and thick, and fuck if this didn't hurt!

Throwing his hands up wide into the air he shouted, "Is that ALL you wish for me to be to OUR child then Daph?"

Her silky head still bowed, again, the merest of shrugs coupled by only the sounds of silence, and the smell of sweat hanging heavy in the air.

'Damn gym socks', both teens are thinking, as they are struggling to grasp onto any sense of normality in this whole fucked up mess that is now their reality, and both young adults felt the pain as a once beautiful tapestry of a 15 years old friendship one once so solid, woven once upon a time so tightly, unraveling hurtful word by word, and their feelings thread, by thread.

And in their minds the ghostly echo's of two once happy children's voices slowly faded.

"Best friends forever Jus?"
"The bestest Daph!"
"Really forever Jus?"
"Till the end of time Daph...Till the end of time."

Swallowing heavily, Justin now felt dizzy.

This was NOT going as he'd planned it.

Thinking hard, he suddenly felt himself grinning a hateful smile.

This was not his usual Sunshine grin.

It was an anti-sunshine smile.

Justin sneered nastily, "Dammit, Look at me Daphne."

Rolling his eyes at her stubborn silence he all but growled," Daphne, look at me and answer my question please."

Slowly she raised her head, her dark gaze clashing with his own bright blue blaze as he spat, " I'll say it again Daphne, because I think it's worth repeating."

And, this time it was Daphne who caught her breath at the hard cold angry look on a friend's face.

A look as out of place as the current pink diamond and platinum elephant nestled in its black velvet box inside Justin's pants pocket.

The pink pachyderm that he'd let loose in her mind and left it's pink ghost trashing the room by proposing her.

The same one that although was not resting on her slender finger, it felt like it was sitting on her chest.

Daphne shook her head slightly to rid of the buzzing, to stop the white noise.

Wishing Justin would just shut the fuck up, she felt the beginnings of an expending headache form as he repeated, "Is that ALL you wish for me to be to our baby? A part-time QUEER daddy like Brian Kinney is to Gus?"

A frown marred his handsome face, and he folded his arms as he growled, "One who is more interested in getting his fucking dick sucked than being concerned about the birth of his own kid? You really think SO little of ME as to compare me to him? You really think SO fucking little of OUR 15 year friendship, that you'd EVEN compare it to their paltry 4 years of fucking around together off and on in College?!! "

At her shocked look, hands now on his hips Justin sneered, "What? Why are you SO surprised? Are you surprised Daph? Hmm, looks like you are. Well, let me tell you something, a little something about Brian Aidan Kinney, Daphne!"

"On the night Gus was fucking born? Brian had been out at Babylon, getting his dick sucked. He didn't care much for the tricks technique, so he decided to leave. That's when he saw me. Standing under a street lamp."

"He picks me up like a twinkie trick, and abandons Ted and Emmett and Michael on the street in front of Babylon."

"He then takes me back to his place, he strips off his clothes, and after getting me into bed, and I'm naked now too and I'm lying on my back. And as he's rubbing my dick? He gets this phone call from Mel, telling him Lindsay was having his baby! And, Daph, she's yelling at him so loudly, even I can hear their conversation!"

"So, the entire time they are talking, and let me tell you Daph, this part's unreal, but he was stroking my cock, and hell Daph, I was only 17! How many guys at that age have staying power?"

Daphne shrugged her slender shoulders because she truly didn't know the answer.

Justin Taylor had been the only boy she'd ever slept with, then or since.

With an impatient look, she's motioning for him to continue.

And, he doesn't disappoint her as he states, "So, to my utter embarrassment, and after she'd been bitching him out quite loudly I might add, and for several minutes, I fuckin' cum Daph, all over his precious dark blue duvet, and then he's bitching to HER all about it!"

"CHRIST! Well, as we both know, I couldn't go home, so he calls Michael to tell him to be ready when he gets there to get him, and on purpose I think he left me out of the equation."

Justin pauses from his intense rant to stare at Daphne.

Her mouth is formed in a small ‘o’ shape of surprise, and her chocolate-hazel eyes are so wide, that they look black.

Grimly he's telling himself, and he just knows this next part will sway her to the correct decision, the only one possible for the health and safety of his child.

As painful as it is, he says hatefully, “And look at you? What kind of mother are you? Waiting for almost 5 fucking months before getting proper medical attention and care, NOT telling ME that I'm our baby's father until you're almost into what, your second trimester? You're just now staring to show Daph. How much longer until your parents figure it out, hmm? And, if and when they do, are you prepared for just what might happen? To you, to our baby? I did the right thing tonight Daph. I put my own selfishness aside and I thought about that little defenseless baby you're carrying. Is it fair to our baby to deprive it of a happy and healthy 2-parent home? It was good enough for us, are you telling me that it's not good enough for our baby?"

Justin braced himself for her answers.

His slim chest heaving with the taunt emotions clogging his heart at her suddenly frosty attitude when she said coolly, "But Justin,"

Daphne sneered, "In case you've forgotten, YOUR GAY!" She all but shouted.

Justin's face paled registering shock, and blinking rapidly at her he’s shouting back, "So what the fuck that I'm gay!!? JUST because I'm fucking GAY YOU think I can't be a good husband to you and a good parent for our child?! Or that for some fucked up reason I don't want to be?!"

Justin looked at Daphne disgustedly.

"I"M NOT HIM!" He screamed.

"I want to do the right thing, the only thing I know to do to make this all right! SO, tell me, just what in the FUCK is your damage Daph!? Why don't you want me full-time in our baby's life? Why won't YOU JUST FUCKING SAY YES?!"

At seeing her shocked little face at his revelations, inwardly he coldly smiled, and then ruthlessly, he went in to finish it.

Knowing that after he was through, this would tell it. Either she was with him or against him.

Fortifying himself, he pressed on, telling himself that this was for the sake of his, of their baby.

She just had to be made to see reason, she just had to accept his proposal, and if, if she did, then he could put all of his plans into motion, and he'd make sure their life as a family was a happy one.

If he could just get her stubborn ass to see reason!

Coldly he asked her, "So you want us to be like them huh? And you, do you suddenly have a craving for snatch Daph? Because that's them Daph. The queer and the already married lesbian. That is their fucked up life, NOT ours! It could never be ours! We would NEVER be like them!"

Shaking his finger at her he spat, "Shame on you Daphne J. Chanders! How could you want your baby, OUR child to be born a bastard!?"

"Brian Kinney did Mel and Lindz a favor. THEY are the one's in a partnership, Mel and Lindz, NOT Brian and Lindz."

"Both of them confirmed it, and hell Mel has no real clue. Oh I'm sure she suspects it, but they're not admitting to anything!"

Cause you see Daph, Brian and Lindz were College sweethearts! They fucked off and on for 4 years! Even after Lindz had met Mel, she was still seeing Brian. Brian had said, and Lindz fucking admitted to it that, He would of fucked Lindz to give her Gus, but both of them knew, if Mel had found out, she'd of kicked the shit out of him!" He finished with a sly dark grim grin.

Daphne's jaw dropped and then snapped shut.

She was in mental overload.

Everything that had happened tonight was just too much for her mind to wrap around and absorb.

From his outerspace proposal, to the surreal truth about Brian and Lindz and Mel, Daphne needed to escape from the harsh barbed truths Justin's truthfully cruel words held.

Glancing down at her watch she found her exit.

"Justin, it's late, I need to get home, you need to get to bed, we both have School tomorrow."

She said in what she'd hoped was a peaceful tone. For not only did her head hurt but her heart and tummy did as well.

Standing up, she walks over to him, feeling his radiating anger and hurt before she's even standing in front of him.

Reaching out her slender arms wordlessly, she sighs as she feels his strong arms go around her.

Tightly two friends hug, and inside, although a bit threadbare, their friendship tapestry is slowly re-woven with fresh tears, and soft words of apology.

Now standing close, both of them are soon sniffing, and wiping away each others tears tenderly, when Justin catches Daphne under the chin and raises her tear stained face to ask her, "So, Daph," He says as casually as one can after feeling his world implode, "We're still going to the Prom in two weeks right?"

And at her next words, he knows he's at least got her thinking when she says, " Yeah, we sure are Jus, and thanks again for asking me. Um, about that other thing? Um, I'll think it over, and I'll give you my answer, my final decision on Prom night."

Standing on tiptoe, she lightly ghosts her lips across one of his tear stained cheeks, tasting his pain, feeling the regret at causing it slam into her.

"Justin, the Dr.'s appointment is at 3:00 PM tomorrow after School. Meet me at my car and we can ride together, okay?" At his silence, she quickly adds, "Or um I can just give you the address, and..."

"Daph? Shhh, I'll be there," he gruffly replies, bending down to peck her cheek.

Breathing out the quick sigh of relief she'd been unaware she'd held, Daphne flashes him a pretty smile, then with a "Later then!" she's leaving out of the room and heading down to the front door.

Waiting until he hears her slam the front door and her car start and then drive off, only then is Justin pulling out his cellphone,
Flipping it open, he's soon pushing at a number, and then he's soon connected.

"Yeah, hey Mom, it's Justin. Um, yeah, I did, ah, yeah I guess she did, she seemed to like it, OF course you have good taste! I trusted you to help me, and you will still not say anything to anyone right? Not Dad, NOT Brian, not Daph's parents, NO ONE MOM! Huh? Well, no, she didn't exactly, ah; well she said she'd tell me on Prom night. Listen, mom, MOTHER! Listen to me please!" Justin pleaded.

Then, softly sobbing, one tiny tear slowly traced down his face as he brokenly told her, "Mommy, I really need your help...I don't want to lose my baby."
